Ok everyone, I have decided to go ahead with the STATE v. STATE SUPER SATURDAY CHALLANGE concept. The format will be as follows:

The first Saturday of every month will be considered SUPER SATURDAY. On SUPER SATURDAY the 10 best scores from the collective ozgolf community will be collated, and prize money awarded to the states they wish to represent. The prize money will be awarded as follows:

1st = $1,000,000
2nd = $900,000
3rd = $800,000
4th = $700,000
5th = $600,000
6th = $500,000
7th = $400,000
8th = $300,000
9th = $200,000
10th & ties = $100,000

All ties will be decided on count back, except for 10th place and ties, who will be ALL awarded 1 point.

The overall winner for the month will be ozgolf's MONTHLY MUG winner.

The rules are as follows:

1. As the organiser, my decision is final.
2. I have the right to change the rules as the event progresses.
3. Entrants may need to provide photographic evidence of their competition cards, if required.
4. As the event is on most clubs monthly medal day, it will be a stroke competition. If your club is different, and plays stableford, you're still eligible to enter.
5. Entries close at 9pm QLD time the Sunday after SUPER SATURDAY. Any entries submitted after this will not be collated.
6. There is no requirement to play every month, and cards only need to be entered if you believe they are worthy of a winning a point. Bear in mind, we are all choppers, and it won't surprise me if 73/74 gets paid some months.
7. This event is considered to be fun. Please ensure that this thread is maintained with in the spirit in which it was started.
8. For the purpose of this competition, NT & ACT will be listed as one state.
9. 2 March 2013, will be the first SUPER SATURDAY for 2013.
10. 7 December 2013, will be the final SUPER SATURDAY for 2013. It will also be DOUBLE POINTS.
11. Monthly winners & points will be awarded in updated ASAP, once entries close.

On SUPER SATURDAY, if you wish to be eligible to enter you will be required to PM me with the following:

No. SUPER SATURDAY only. Otherwise it becomes too hard. If I say yes to friday, I will have to say yes to Wednesday. Next thing, it is a week long festival of golf.

You have two options:

1. Play for a different state.

Or

2. Play better golf.

How does someone playing stroke compete against someone playing par? Most first Sats at decents clubs will be stroke/monthly medal.

In real golf terms, poorly... For the purpose of this competition, and to make things simple... EASILY.

Webster
28th February 2013, 02:19 PM
So if I have net 72 with 8 birdies, and eagle and 3 doubles a bogey and a triple what score do I get (playing off scratch) compared to an 18 marker who has +1 playing against par with 5 "misses"?

sms316
28th February 2013, 02:22 PM
Who are you playing for Jack?

popper81
28th February 2013, 03:10 PM
Jack, dependant on the ACR you get 72. He gets 73. This is flawed... I am aware, but otherwise it is :

A) too much work

B) too much work

C) too much work

It is a bit of of silly fun. If that doesn't work for you, maybe this is not for you.

PeteyD
28th February 2013, 03:19 PM
+1 in par would be 71?

+1 in par would be 71?

I use a different scoring system.

Or..

I have no idea.

Webster
28th February 2013, 03:42 PM
popper, the answer is that you need to convert all scores to stableford, with an adjustment for ACR, otherwise its unfair against the stroke players, and probably advantageous to the blokes playing par (especially the choppers). My score in post 56 would be 38 points (par and ACR same).

popper81
28th February 2013, 03:52 PM
Fair point... In the long run, it will be better.

Jack, you are a man of the people.

Hey Pop's,

Just clarifying this for future months as I am curious how the stableford score is calculated and what proof you need. I didn't submit my card this weekend for two reasons a) it wasn't updated on golflink until today :( and b) my stroke score gave a nett 6 over, so didn't think it would have any value...

However and this is where it gets interesting... 6 over should equate to 30 points... but I actually had 2 quads in my round. So say I was playing a stabelford instead of the stroke, these quads could have been considered doubles (i.e. wipes) and so really if I was playing stableford on Saturday I would have had a nett 2 over the handicap or 34 points. Thus the quandry... should I have submitted 30 points (stroke equivalent stableford scorer) OR 34 points (actual stableford score I would have had if playing stableford) and thus what proof is needed???

Not stirring just curious.

Cheers,
Waz

I would assume the intention is to calculate the Stableford score on a hole-by-hole basis. That's what I did.

Waz,

Valid questions.... and quite possibly ones that others have as well.

The intention was for it to be a stroke based competition, but as Jack alluded to, it wasn't the fairest way to do it. It is now based on the Stableford scoring system.

In your example, you would have submitted a score of 34 points.

As for what proof is needed.... being that we are all friends and this comps is a little bit of fun, not much. I expect everyone would be able to produce photographic evidence of their cards if required. A count back will used to determine overall monthly winners, so in that cirumstance, a card would be need to be viewed, or verified.

Also, please note that I have adjusted some stableford scores depending or ACR rating. If you scored 36 points in stableford, your PAR was 72, but the course was rated 71, then I have adjusted the score to 35 stableford points.

It is important to remember, this is a bit of fun.... and my first time doing anything likethis. I am happy to listen to suggestions, on how WE can do it BETTER, so that all ozgolfers can enjoy.

Hope this helps,

Popper

CONGRATULATIONS to Solarman - the only man to get 5th place, and the NAGA in one round.

I hear no one has ever won the State vs. State/ NAGA double before. ;)

In other news, Solarman also won Best Gross for C Grade for this round. Although, in reality, I can't see how it could have gone any other way... there's no one in the club who is as gross as him. :p

Of the PM's I have received, no one has had better than 36.... And a few have had plenty less.

Send the scores thru, you maybe surprised.

Also, to those that are unsure... Score your round as if you were actually playing stableford, even if you played stroke. Don't just convert your 74nett to 34 points.... For example. I scored a triple bogey on a hole that I didn't have a shot on. Is purely a wipe, as opposed to my +3 and means my stableford score is one better than my actual nett score.

HEY! The group of old farts I play with have their own handicap system. They halve your golflink handicap and then take off 2 shots. That is you starting handicap with them. You get .1 shots each round where you don't win and lose .1 for every $2 you win. Depending on the number who play on the day you can lose a big chunk of handicap with a win.
