I know there are a few of you in the know about law.

I think I have grounds to sue the arse off of somebody, I just want to get some advice from here first.

PM me for details.

Ta.

Being in the right is a good first step. The next two questions to ask - do they have money, and are you likely to get back more than it will cost you chasing it?

Jack, I thought mike had sons?

How can we offer advice without knowing the circumstances of the wrongdoing?

Mike my wife is a solicitor. She says go to a local firm and ask them. First consultation is free usually.

How can we offer advice without knowing the circumstances of the wrongdoing?I didn't ask for advice from the masses. I asked for advice from somebody that knew about this sort of stuff. I thought you were smarter than that.

First consultation is free usually. Thanks mate. I didn't know that.

So you want to lodge a civil claim, against a person directly, for some kind of 'wrong'.

1) You need to find out whether you actually have a legal basis for a claim. Not just a TV based idea of one.
2) You need to work out how much money and more importantly time you have.
3) You need to do this by seeing a solicitor.

I could possibly help but depends on the issue (plus typing long replies on phone is annoying). Ultimately you will need to visit a solicitor.

Hopefully some action is taken for all these off topic posts - although I noticed the first one was by a mod, so expecting nothing to happen.

First consultation is free usually.

My understanding is that this lure is actually "free IF you don't proceed. If you do proceed, then you will be billed at the normal rate for the first appointment."

I used to work for lawyers, if you can avoid using one then do so. But if you do need to use one, shop around like any other trade. You will find BIG differences in fees and disbursements.

Often a good quality suburban lawyer will be cheaper than an inner city one simply due to rent being lower. I worked 6km out of the CBD, our firm's hourly rate even for the boss with 40 years' experience was usually less than junior/mid-level lawyers working in the CBD firms. We still got very good results for our clients too so shop around.

Do you have a clean pair of thongs, in case you need to front up to Mareeba Courthouse?

One was very popular with a certain NQ mod over the past weekend.

Tina Truner anyone?
