View Full Version : NSW: Thinking of getting a bunch of us to play Penrith/ Somewhere?

JADO75
28th January 2013, 12:16 AM
Just an idea at the moment but was thinking of trying organise a game on a Sunday at Penrith or wherever for some of us that live in or near Sydney in a few weeks. Nothing locked in as yet, more just to get an idea of who might be interested? Would be good to put some faces to names & meet the bunches of you that I haven't met. Doesn't have to be Penrith either, that is my home course & was the first place I thought of.

Thanks for taking the initiative, Jado.

Unfortunately, full dance card at the moment, with men's and mixed fourball knockout comps, or caddy for pennant team.
My Sundays should free up by late March.

Alternatively we could do Riverside oaks or Twin creeks. I'm not sure how much notice we would need to give TC to get that many on but it might be worth a go!

stealth2
5th February 2013, 10:31 PM
17th and 24th both good for me. So my first question is does eveyone want to play in a comp or shall we do our our mini comp ? I practice most days of late out at Lynwood and it's in awesome nic at the moment, will cost a non member about $40 in comp for a game, Penrith is looking better and will cost $15 for the comp, dunheved is good will cost about $18 in comp. Twin Creeks is always fun but will set you back upwards of $80 but that will include a cart. Someone just make a random call and lets lock in the place and time to meet there. Of the courses mentioned, Penrith is very quiet on a Sunday afternoon whereas the others usually do a lot of social players. Jaydo you started this thread so make the call and lets do this. Look forward to meeting you all.

Was texting Jaydo about this last night. We're calling Penriff and Stonies this morning to see what times can be offered. If one of them works out then all good otherwise we'll try others. Stealth, you might want to ring Lynwood and Riverside Oaks maybe to check availability. Give us more options.

Hopefully we'll have something locked in by COB today.

matty

Haha. Doubt it. No reason why it couldn't work though. Maybe you can organise a roster containing those who show up. Give them a month each to organise. Would lead to a good selection of courses.

matty
6th February 2013, 09:32 AM
Ok. Stonies said I could get four groups in around midday but I'd have to book them in the morning before. They said it won't be a problem but there's always a risk it won't work out.

I'll do it if required but it may be better if someone can lock something concrete in at another course.

Great minds think alike. ;)
I was also thinking something along these lines for the match play, but one would 'challenge' another OzGolfer. Winner gets 3 points and loser 1 point. (Tie = 2 points each.)
Top 4 point scorers on 1st November, are seeded into the semis. (This gives 2 months to schedule finals around club champs, rep. games, holidays, Xmas functions, etc.)

Probably allow both OzGolf days and any game between OzGolfers, but limit of 3 matches between any two players (which allows for an 'equaliser' match and possible 'decider'). Limit of 3 prevents two close friends or members of the same club racking too many points with their regular games.

I like the idea of points or something for how you went on the day as opposed to match play. Maybe after we've played quite a few courses through the year we could have the top 8 or something in a match play final?

Yeah agree this is a good way to do it. Could work it so that say the top 10 get a series of points and anyone else playing also gets at least 1 point... For eg. say there were 16 players:

16th - 11th positions gets 1pt (basically just a point for tunring up and one more point then those that didn't)
10th - 2 pts
9th - 3 pts
8th - 4 pts
7th - 5 pts
6th - 6 pts
5th - 7 pts
4th - 8 pts
3rd - 9 pts
2nd - 10pts
1st - 12 pts (extra point for the win!)

Top 10 means it doesn't matter how many extra players there are above 10.

Should give a good indication of the best player by the end of the year. The players that play the most obviously getting more points.

Just some random thoughts...
