List your top 5 courses that you enjoy playing.

Not a achytechka thread, just the courses you lovr to play.

Mine are all in S/E Queensland cause I haven't had the chance to get interstate to play,or up north.

1.Brookwater
2.Hope Island
3.Glades
4.Indooroopilly West
5.Twin Waters

I must stress that there are probably better courses like Hyatt Coolum out there, but these are the ones I enjoy playing the most.I guess I haven't played the others enough to judge them like the others.

I haven't played that many courses, so these are the ones that I have personally enjoyed. It's not necessarily the course ... it may have been the way I was playing or who I was playing with ... :D

1. The Dunes (shot 76 off the back tees ... 8) I think I left my game in Melbourne :( )
2. Ocean Shores (I like the layout and played it 5 times since coming up to Lismore. The trainee pro-am was especially enjoyable)
3. Bonville (a beautiful course)
4. The Lakes (Kike fairways, but still in top condition. Layout is a bit too tight for me, but a fair test)
5. Brookwater (probably the most expensive round I have played at $100 ... wait ... I have played $250 round in Korea ... )

I hope I can play some courses in Adelaide and Perth soon. Hmmm ... golf seems to get better (and cheaper) the further I move from Sydney ...

Around Brisbane areas, my favourites are..
1. Brookwater
2. Wynnum
3. Hope Island
4. Brisbane
5. Indro West

Outside of Brissie (ie. not your everyday courses) I'd make it..
1. National Old
2. Moonah Links Open
3. Dunes
4. Laguna Whitsunday
5. The Vintage

1. Ocean Shores - Like Jono, love the layout. Just a damn fine course.
2. Sandringham (VIC) - Taste of sand-belt golf in Melbourne. Helps that i played really well here, but loved the course.
3. Hope Island - Like it says, top 5 that i've played. Enjoyed my round there, cost aside.
4. Camden Lakeside
5. R&A Casino - Got to be loyal ;)

Honorable Mentions: Robina Woods - just too technical for me on the day, benefit from playing a second time.
Lismore: It's getting better....

Ok....my top 5....Hmmm.....So many choices....

5. St. Charles C.C. (Winnipeg, Mb, Canada) 9 holes by Ross, 9 by Alastair MacKenzie and home sweet home......

4. Royal Sydney Golf Club (Sydney, NSW) I don't know how Baddeley blitzed that place as an 18 yr old

3. New South Wales Golf CLub (La Parrouse, NSW) Brutal when the wind blows, which is always, and $1,000,000 views of the ocean.....

2. Newcastle Golf Club (Stockton, NSW) Bring you straight driving game....if you miss the fw, you're DEAD....literally, with all the Brown Snakes......

1. Crystal Downs C.C. (Middle of Nowhere, Mi) You have to think on EVERY shot......seriously.....

Well, thats them for now.....It's tough to leave out The Lakes GC, The Australian GC, The Vintage, Baltausrol, The Chicago GC, and several others.....but you said top 5, not top 15.... :P

SE Queensland

Glades, Brookwater, Palm Meadows, Gold Coast Burleigh (home course) and Hope Island.

Australia

Bargara, Bonville, Monash, Long Reef and St Michaels.

Overseas

Kapalua, Makena, Wailea and Pukalani in Hawaii and Denarau in Fiji.

Clearly we need to get to Melbourne, mainland US and Europe.

I'll refrain from "Arkitecha" references so as not to upset everyone,

1. Royal Melbourne West - nothing comes close. Just so many great holes.
2. NSW - I smile just thinking about it. Terrific fun and so different to almost any other course I've played
3. National Moonah - I'm biased but it's a beautiful place to play and has some terrific holes. The 2nd is the best par 5 I've played.
4. National Old - the most visually beautiful and intimidating course you can play. When the wind blows its the toughest course in the country.
5. Newcastle - just for the run from 5 thru to 11

I didn't particularly rate Royal Melbourne West... and likewise didn't particularly like Royal Melbourne East.

Brookwater I found to be ridiculously difficult but at the same time spectacularly beautiful. Sort of made me think of a skier looking up at K2 and saying geez that would be fun to ski!

Victoria and Camden Lakeside are on my almost in the top five category.

Laguna Quays (Turtle Beach)

Couple of rounds recently at Hope Island and Lakelands. Played The Glades and Federal & Yowani in Canberra last year too. Also played National Ocean and Old in August. List needs an update.

The amended list is:
National Old
Brookwater
The Dunes
Lakelands
Hyatt Coolum

I think. :? Very tough to leave some of the other courses I've played out of a list. And I'm sure if I played one of those left out again, it may work it's way back in. But I've kept the list at 5.

edit: Bruce reminded me that I played Narooma last year too. Beautiful course, very unlucky to miss out. Listing a top 10 would be so much easier.

Anyone else care to update their list? Or perhaps someone that missed out on the thread before?

I joined Ozgolf to get away from lists, but as this is enjoyable, and therefor a purely personal opinion not strictly related to merit, course condition or other factors, here we go, in no particular order

Bonville
Narooma
Leura (for the back nine scenery, the front nine is nothing much)
Belmont (I saw a topless sunbather on the beach, and it's a really good course)
The Lakes (mainly for the thrill of being able to recall the shots I hit every time there is a tourney on TV)

Yep, Barnbougle Dunes is clearly the best course I've played in Australia, but I haven't played RM, KH, Metropolitan, Woodlands etc etc..

Updated my lists then, since I've played Ocean Shores again, it makes my Top 5. I still haven't played Glades, Robina and Colonial, so not sure where they'd fit....

I played Newcastle again a few weeks back and it like a lot of courses this summer has had it's greens hit hard by the weather and rouge weed growth. They look to be in a the middle of a program to get them back to the condition they deserve to be.

It's funny how a high marker and a low marker look at courses differently. I see Mac as an easy course since the driving areas are so easy, whereas I asee the Vintage as a much greater challenge, especially from the tips.....Not discounting your opinion because you are a high marker, just noting that is is very different then mine and several other low makers that I know......

After playing The Vintage again a few weeks ago after the 1st time when we played. It did seem a little easier, I did noticed a few changes too to in my opinion (if it actually means anything) it did look as if they had made it a little easier, fairways looked wider in places and one thing I did remember was on the 10th when we played there last there was abit of work going on on the LHS of the fairway, that has now finished and it looked as if they had built a few mounds to try and protect houses. Also the rough of the fairway was nowhere near as rough.
I think if we played there tomorrow I would not have lasted anywhere near as long in the match as I did that day, you would carve it up.

I can't compare it to Mac Links because I have not played there yet.

I have always been a fan of The Vintage, so I know my opinion is biased, but I think that it's a great test for a few reasons. one, it can play easy or ard, depending on the tees you play, as they move diagonally as they get longer, narrowing the landing area as well as making it farther away. It also allows you to run the ball up if required........Excellent green complexes, and the wind is always around.......And you can always find a decent drop on the way home ;)

I seem to remember we both played well that day, with you fading a bit in the end........Maybe tomorrow would be my day to fade :P

I played my first game there in Feb (about the same time as my first go round RA) so never saw 6 thru 8 in their previous life. The only problem I have with 6 is the bunker step that has been discussed elsewhere and that's fixable. The hole where the old green was doesn't concern me. 7 and 8 have 'issues', deep rooted and complex (read awful). For me though there is enough greatness in the remainder of the holes to give it the nod over the two you mention.

I also wasn't a big fan of the changes to 15. I'd have RME around the same level as RA but due to the 2 complete dogs in 7&8 I relegate RME a few spots.

Unfortunately I've not yet played Kingston Heath.
