What does everyone do leading up to and pre-game? Do we all have a routine? Or just show up and bash???

Here's mine:

Sat morning

Grab golfbag from ute
Charge GPS
Sit in the sun, clean clubs of last games earth moving debris
Check amount of balls, tees etc
Make sandwich (which is usually left on kitchen bench)
Mix 1 litre powerade drink with ice
Iron golf apparel
Change shoelaces to matching shirt colour
Check tee time
Head to club...

Mines pretty simple...

Get out of bed (usually around 10.30, sometimes later...)
Have shower
Maybe have breakfast if I'm not super late already
Take 30 minutes to decide on and put on outfit
Get to club 8 minutes before tee time
Throw everything together out of the boot at breakneck speed
Run into pro shop, pay and collect card
Walk onto first tee cold, have two or three warm-up swings
AWAY!

EDIT: Sorry missed this bit - Realise half way down the first that GPS has only 1/3rd of battery charge. Swear profusely. Chip second shot out from the trees. Swear profusely again.

(And I wonder why I've drifted out to 4...)

Skulk out to the practice fairway at first light and practice for two hours. Breaky time and stock up on the carbs. Spend 90 minutes doing mobility and relaxation exercises and some deep breathing. Make it to the club an hour before hit off and spend time chipping and putting and yakking with the lads.

Nah- just kidding! The last sentence (above) is about it.

I read a study awhile back where two golfers teed off on the first hole with no range warm-up. One golfer went directly to the tee with only a few practice swings while the other teed off after spending five minutes balancing/walking on the cement parking dividers in the parking lot. The golfer who did the balancing act played much better than the other golfer although their handicaps were the same. The next day the study was conducted in the same manner but this time the two golfers switched routines. Again, the golfer who performed the balancing act played much better than the one who only took a few practice swings.

The conclusion drawn from the study was that our brains naturally work in an intellectual mode as opposed to a physical one unless a sustained physical activity is being performed. Also, it takes about five minutes of sustained physical activity in order for the brain to make this transition.

I have tried this experiment personally and found it to be true. I always play my best rounds after five minutes of sustained physical activity whether it be on a driving range or simply balancing/walking on the cement dividers in the parking lot.

6:50 - a couple of practice putts
6:55 - empty pockets, turn phone on silent, put ball maker, plug lifter and tees into pocket whilst walking to tee

Water waster!!!

True. My three year old has taken to yelling "Don't be a water waster Daddy!" at me after five minutes. I tell her I'll be out soon. So far, it's working.

I'm just impressed that you attempt to shave before 6:30 on a Saturday. That would be life-threatening for me.
