Veeman brought this up today but is Araluen in February a good choice?

Last time we were there in February there was very little grass and most of the greens were unputtable.

We put out a small fire in the fairway that was caused by a dropped cigarette and had spread over about 10sqm and had to call out the Pro to put out a larger one that had consumed about double that area and was going strong.

Also, that was the day that my friend Wardy pulled his tee shot left on one of the Par 5's (8th maybe) and when he tapped it sideways out of the rough it only just made it onto the fairway then slowly rolled all the way down to just in front of the green. It was a putt that went 6m then turned 90° left and rolled another 230m. Crazy stuff.

Looking at Araluen Resort on the back of its revival and to avoid recent and proposed GSM venues.

When: Sunday, 3rd February 2013 @ 9.30am
Where: Araluen Golf Resort
How much: $60 inc cart and post round beer.
Eligibility: All are welcome and it'd be great to see some that have joined recently. A minimum 50 posts is required to be eligible for the jacket and cup tho (plenty of time to hit that mark too).
Dress Code: Dress code details are on the Araluen website. For the avoidment of doubt, TommyG, boardshots are not acceptable.
Special Conditions: A 15th club may be carried for use in the rough stuff.
Other details: format, groupings and prizes to be determined once numbers etc are confirmed.

No just had a new grip and a sweet new headcover which my wife got me for Christmas.

Prize money contributions will be $15 per person and awarded roughly as follows:

The above assumes 18 starters; I will adjust up or down roughly within those ratios depending on final numbers.

Rack rate is $79 on weekends. They've got a special at the moment of $66 with post round stubby for groups of 20 or more, so we've got slightly better than that special. Sounds like its fairly busy at the moment so not easy negotiating.

as its been a number of years since i've played there, i was just having a squiz at the course then.

I forgot that it is actually quite a long course. 3 x 500m+ par 5's, most of the par 4's are 350m+.

My only problem, I dont have an Araluen club anymore....
I'll be using the persimmons and Eye2s.

Last couple of outings, used the longer irons more.

While it is commendable for playing the best golf, it is not the yardstick for a Champs merit bar.

Treat it like a novelty and take out $5 out of the three prizes. Should be less than 3rd.

I've always liked the idea of having an LD on the first hole to out the pressure on early. Isn't that fairly long and straight?

Looking forward to seeing Araluen again for the second time. The last time was Dec 2008 and it had a good variety of holes.

Given recent form, I'm not expecting much in the way of gross or net. Just looking to catch up with some new faces, have fun with the contingent and hopefully hit some good shots.

the prizes should be available to the majority of the players.

if those that wish to participate in a gross event put their money in a hat and run their own gross comp that should be easy enough. $5 in each WTA.
