Yeah if its not holding up maybe KTown as an easy backup plan. I'm in like Flynn. Haven't played Araluen for 4 years so would be good to see the changes. Also been playing locally lots of late.I like Simmsys backup course proposal tho. Last time there the jacket became mine. These days TWM is the bearer. Me in 2010, JC in 2011, TWM in 2012. Who's next?

Veefore
10th November 2012, 10:41 PM
Veeman brought this up today but is Araluen in February a good choice?

Last time we were there in February there was very little grass and most of the greens were unputtable.

We put out a small fire in the fairway that was caused by a dropped cigarette and had spread over about 10sqm and had to call out the Pro to put out a larger one that had consumed about double that area and was going strong.

Also, that was the day that my friend Wardy pulled his tee shot left on one of the Par 5's (8th maybe) and when he tapped it sideways out of the rough it only just made it onto the fairway then slowly rolled all the way down to just in front of the green. It was a putt that went 6m then turned 90° left and rolled another 230m. Crazy stuff.

I've come across it like that too. Had a mate drive a par 4 (for memory it was over ~340m) it was running that quick.

Word is they've sorted the retic and water access issues so it should be ok. If it looks like being an issue in the lead up we can move it somewhere else.

G.K
10th November 2012, 11:40 PM
+1 noob.

Just have to work on the post count to ensure I can don the jacket and take a celebratory drink from the cup.

I should also have extracted a digit enough to have my 'cap sorted by then too. Will be interesting to see if they have sorted the retic issues as from past experience I echo the sentiments raised by others re that time of year at Araluen.

Good work Ashes. Thanks for putting on the organisers cap!

If one good thing came out of this year's Champs (and there were many)....it must be the floorburger. I have a little chuckle every time I read a post where it's mentioned  Still not sure if I should feel privileged or horrified that I was there to witness the carnage.

Mmmmmm...............floorburger. Let the hazing begin. I have been known to be partial to the occasional cheeseburger myself, albeit there has been no floor involved.

Will be good to put some names to faces. Although there is a chance this may happen sooner for a few. I'm seriously considering Royal Hartfield as worthy of my membership $$$. Still yet to have a game there to see if I like the course but as far as everything else goes, the stars seem to be aligning. I'll be trying to get down there for a hit on a Monday/Tuesday in a week or two.

Here it is, 2013's first chance for WAnker glory and a shot at the highly coveted Nuffie Jacket and Summer Cup.

Looking at Araluen Resort on the back of its revival and to avoid recent and proposed GSM venues.

When: Sunday, 3rd February 2013 @ 9.30am
Where: Araluen Golf Resort
How much: $60 inc cart and post round beer.
Eligibility: All are welcome and it'd be great to see some that have joined recently. A minimum 50 posts is required to be eligible for the jacket and cup tho (plenty of time to hit that mark too).
Dress Code: Dress code details are on the Araluen website. For the avoidment of doubt, TommyG, boardshots are not acceptable.
Special Conditions: A 15th club may be carried for use in the rough stuff.
Other details: format, groupings and prizes to be determined once numbers etc are confirmed.

I'm holding a tentative booking at the moment, so get in quick (within the next week preferably) and post or pm me if you want to take part.

Araluen is renowned for having rocks sometimes large ones sitting in their bunkers. It would be wise to allow for these rocks to be removed if in immediate area of ball and contact area.

Ok, now that Simmsy has given the course two thumbs up, it's time to get this all confirmed.

Prize money contributions will be $15 per person and awarded roughly as follows:

1st Place - $90
2nd Place - $50
3rd Place - $30

Long Drive - $20
4 x NTP's - $20 each

The above assumes 18 starters; I will adjust up or down roughly within those ratios depending on final numbers.

I'll be sending you all PM's today with my details so you can transfer your prize money contributions to me (saves the hassle of sorting it out on the day) and confirm your attendance so I can finalize the numbers with Araluen.

Rack rate is $79 on weekends. They've got a special at the moment of $66 with post round stubby for groups of 20 or more, so we've got slightly better than that special. Sounds like its fairly busy at the moment so not easy negotiating.

Based on previous rounds, best gross is likely in the 76-79 range. The winning net score is likely to be 37-39 points. Araluen is tough and some even consider it tight. Still a resort design IMO.

The reality is that with the current HCs of everyone playing, there are 5 who are likely to be in the running for Gross. Similar to the Long Drive novelty.

While it is commendable for playing the best golf, it is not the yardstick for a Champs merit bar.

Treat it like a novelty and take out $5 out of the three prizes. Should be less than 3rd.

No. U need to hit the fairway to win the ld. That could mean that Nuffie might take it if everyone else misses, so it doesnt narrow the field much at all

Best gross narrows it to 4 blokes plus one outside chance if he has a good day (sorry hocko). Thats 20% of the field. Not much really
