View Full Version : How will you identify your Penta TP5 at the Wanker champs?

Seems everyone is using these top pills now. Mine will have a single black Texta dot to right of the number. Whilst I only expect to use 3 in the 3 rounds I will be playing, if you find my lost one in the rough/trees/hazard I'd appreciate it back.

Thanks, Jack.

I've got a blue sharpie as well to mark my TP5, but I'll have to use a distinguishable mark after an unfortunate story which unfolded yesterday...

In rd 4 of our club champs, the eventual gross runner up found a ball in the bush and figured it was his - same type, number AND a green line on it (just like how he'd marked his own). He also put a dot on it somewhere, but it was hidden on the other side of the ball. Despite the uncertainty, as to if it was his ball, he hit it anyway as most would - to find later after inspection that he'd in fact played the wrong ball. I'm not sure what the difference was between his score and the guy who eventually won, but he admirably took the two-shot penalty in his stride and made a fat-man score on par 4, 14th. Now there's a lesson to be learnt lads, don't always use a 'line' or a 'spot'.

Yep true that Vic.

Lots was gained: Put on a good show, mixed it with a few 'hot shots' of the club and established a heap of new connections, found a new ball to play with AND learnt exactly where my game is at, what's going well and what needs improvement.

I was 10 shots behind the net winner, 6 behind runner up and 4 behind 3rd.

Basically need to come up with a way to make the bad score a 79 and the good one a 75 or 76. No easy task...

Drummond are having a 4 day sale, Thursday to Sunday, saw an ad saying TP3 were down to $28/doz, so TP5 might also slip under the current $33. Supposedly everything is marked down and TP3 and TP5 were both going for $33 normally.

I've heard TP3 spins more on full shots from 8-9-wedge distance, but TP5 spins more from say 30m in on partial swings, can anyone yay or nay that?

TourFit
15th October 2012, 05:56 PM
Makes sense from a designing perspective. The higher swing speed players don't need as much spin on full shots (the extra speed takes care of that) whereas slower S.S. players do...but lower 'capper / higher S.S. players need the greenside check & control on partial shots. Higher 'capper and lower S.S. players could do with less greensside spin and more predictability of release on partial shots mainly due to a more inconsistent strike with lofted clubs.

Better than those precepts you are using

Precepts are awesome. Veeman bought 12 dozen of them when they first had them at $40 a dozen.
I bought a dozen he had left over off him last year and after a bad spell where I was losing one a round have been using the same three in rotation since may. It is starting to get a bit hard to pick the best looking one to play before each round now though.

I just bought a dozen of these to fit in with the cool guys.

Maybe I should buy some as well. Harty has them for $36 a dozen but Rob will usually price-match any retailer in Perth.
Of course that would bring to an end any idea that only "cool guys" play them.

Oh and as far as markings go, I'll just use my regular, boring mark. Everyone seems to know that. G

One of our club members brought a ball back from Albany 5 years ago that he found in the range bucket and reckoned was mine, even though he thought I had never played Callaways. Turns out it was one I lost about 8 years ago when I played my one and only weekend there.

I read a review on them once. Can't remember where though.

They compared them to Norman Greenbaum, one hit wonders. Apparently one hit on the label with a golf club is enough to obliterate it and they even mentioned them disappearing without the club contacting the label, supposing that just the friction on the grass was enough to rub them off.

Veeman gave me a Callaway is yesterday to try.

I didn't really like it. I felt like I was coming up short with my drives all day, though I did continue my habit of hitting my irons longer than usual again.

A random extra 10m-15m on iron shots is very costly at Harty where there is trouble aplenty behind most of the greens.
Lasering to the front pin then flying the green is really frustrating. :(

The one from Terry did not help one little bit :)

I actually used one of Terry's "butterfly" balls on sunday. I really liked it (19 points on the back nine) and it made me wonder why I keep mucking around with cheaper balls rather than just getting the PROV1.

I gamed a penta for all of day 1 and a ProV1 for day 2 after losing a penta on the 6th.

Its a close contest between these two balls at the moment. But in the wind the Prov1x and Cally Tour seem to hold their line a bit longer.

The prov1 has improved a lot in the recent models. More compression for my swingspeed than a V1x and the ballooning is not as drastic anymore.

I used a combination of precept, srixon and callaway over the 2 days of champs. I am not very good at golf.

I have learned from the error of my ways. ProV1x is king.

I got 50 holes out of the first lethal I tried great ball. I wouldn't even be able to do that at a putt putt course....
