It will be closer than people think. Canuck on his longest exodus from golf since enduring a long Canadian winter.

I need to slip out and play 9 or go to a range before this happens. There is no way I am gaming a reshafted 3 wood that I have hit twice and a driver with a new shaft that hasn't.

Hopefully the greens have recovered for the core.

Cheers to Shades for manning up. I know others around here wouldn't, with the exception of that cat JC, who is taking on SMS off the bat.

Why don't you man up and play the Driver & 3W...isn't that why you had them built. Isn't it why you spent the coin? Manliness comes in many forms.

Nice work shadesy.

JC to choke and it'll be your finest hour.

I like playing lower cappers off the stick too, it feels ghey to get shots during matchplay i reckon. I might have had a win off the stick in a friendly against a single figure guy recently too...

Interesting to see be different mind sets of our illustrious WAnkers out there. More support than I thought.

This was my idea but naturally JC jumped at it.

I play off 10 currently but I don't want to forever. My goal is to play off 5 eventually and this is the start of the journey.

How many shots in pennants have you had to give up in pennants Hocko? Or JC? If we played 3/4 it would only be 4 shots anyway.

Matchplay is pure golf and I I cannot beat him on merit then I don't deserve to win. Like Tommy said I have birdied all holes at KB and eagled 3 of them. How is it fair that I get 4 shots?

I am up against it here no doubt, but why should I play average and still win? I will have to play some really really good golf to win. Isn't that the way it is supposed to be?

Unfortunately I haven't play or even ranged since Mandurah either so it could something in the low 80's that wins it :-)

Johnny Canuck

Naturally I jumped at it. Get bent.

Even the other day I said it was entirely up to you.

What will the reactions be? Nut is already trying to claim your 10 unused shots for his next play, so he'll be playing off 24.

I had the same theory vs SMS. Sure, he is a much better golfer than me, but is it fair I take 3 or 4 shots when in my mind I should be at least parring all the holes?

That's why I think it's a good idea Shades. Imagine wanting to be a 1st grade cricketer but never training or playing against cricketers at that level; you'd have a hard time getting your game to the level required.

There's a fair difference in that cricket, and lets say tennis has you reacting directly to what your opponent puts forward where as golf is your own doing with a stationary ball. I jumped forward a long way in tennis when i was put in the top grade. You get to places (and beat players) you never thought possible. Some don't step up but you never know unless you have a go.

I do get that you would have to play with extra aggression and confidence to match your (better) opponents actual scores. Definitely see the merit in what you say.

And that Shadesy can hit a solid ball into a breeze too. This might end up being a close match, if Shades can stay on target on the back nine and down the infamous stretch. Will the wind keep blowing from the east?

If it switches to from the sea on the back nine, it could be a battle of the 'wind cheaters' down the stretch.

Nut, so I assume that a ferret is a long putt made that originates from the fringe... and a gerbil: A long putt made, originating from elsewhere on the green? If so, thanks and there's now another one to add to my golfing dictionary...

Were you went to extra holes you mean??

Shadesy
10th October 2012, 05:05 PM
Wasn't a huge amount of great golf played. I putted everything inside 10 feet to keep me in the game and JC took a while to get going.

I hit 3 wood 3 wood 9 iron to a foot on 10 for par to go 3 up. Then the most unbelievable kick off the OOB fence for JC on 11(60 metres through Boonge) to the middle of the fairway. I could only make 5.

12 I chopped, and 13 we both chopped I got up and down from 120 for bogey to halve.

JC played great up and down on 15 and I had 4 footer to halve. Hit a perfect putt, didnt break as much as I thought.

Par on 16 and 18 but wipe on 17 killed me. Rookie error teeing off b4 JC due to pace of play.

He played some Great shots down the stretch and it just shows to get to that level you have to play every hole well not just some.

If he gave me 4 shots I would of won 3 and 2 but that's not the game and mindset might of changed.

Dam.

Yep, that match that went to the 19th:

But today Shades played the match off the stick, instead of getting 5 strokes. He also did not lose 5 holes straight at the end with big numbers as I did.

In my match I also played off 3/4 caps and got 2 shots.

Shades pared 16 and almost birdied 18. In my book his performance was very solid, he could have almost had him AND off the stick too...
