So I called Tuggerah, they had 1...but it suddenly became unavailable when I was on the phone to them. Also called Neutral Bay and they had one, but it suddenly got a cracked screen, again while I was on the phone. I bet they will be on eBay soon.

It was fun on the weekend using the one my son bought. We lined up on the 3rd at Mackay, which is a 410m par 4, index 1 and proceeded to have a long drive comp. Anyway I lost as I usually do, as my son is 18 and 6ft3 and smashes it. His drive measured 299m, mine was a pissy 271m. This was downwind but flat fairway. I did smash a couple on the back nine, around the 260m mark. Also seems very accurate. The feature to grap the green and move the pin to where it actually is, is great as well.

Does anyone know if a US sourced one can then be loaded with Australian courses? No idea really, but I plugged mine into the pc and once I downloaded the right software, it updated my maps to all current AUS maps. worth investigating though I revlon

also, when registering it, I had to actually click g3 US version as there was no option for AUS

Thanks, looking at a couple of eBay items starting at .99c for both G3 & G6; noted they came preloaded with US courses and didn't want to potentially invest in a dud...

Also looking around local DSE's tomorrow to see if any $20 G3's exist up here

Checked out Cannon Hill DSE yesterday and the guy was very helpful and looked up the computer to find there are NONE in Qld!
He proudly told me they were $20 but good luck in finding one!

Yup, that was my experience today... The helpful fellow suggested eBay; probably has one for sale himself on there at around 500% markup...

Garmin G3 from JB - $129
From Harvey Norman - $249
Garmin S1 GPS watch from Golfbox - $179
Sureshot Micro from Drummond - $149 for black and white distance-only unit, no picture of the hole

So $129 for a preloaded colour screen with image of the hole layout and multiple data points for each hole.

Might have just found my Christmas present to myself.....

Anyone got further feedback on this unit? Specifically battery life and course detail?

Unlike its contemporaries, the Approach G3 does not require any downloads or subscriptions and is comes ready to use out of the box. It also comes pre-loaded with up to 600 golf courses, so you can get in on all the golfing action right away! Fore! The Approach G3 is built to last and has an operating capacity of up to 15 hours on 2 x fresh AA batteries* while the light-weight 149g and small 5.5 x 10 x 3.3 cm form factor means that you can keep on golfing without it weighing you down.

Mububban. I just bought this. My mate has one and we both love it. The graphics are ok, think old school VGA style but they represent the courses pretty well. I play in the western suburbs of Melbourne and so far it is all good. Measurements are excellent. Battery life is pretty close to what is claimed. We get at least 2.5 rounds 12 - 13 hours. At this price, I don't think you can complain. Like all outdoor devices you need to view it in the right light. BM.

Better than the Neo?
Can you add your own points?
Do they have all courses?

dannycallaz

Pretty good they are.

Can zoom in on holes judging distances to different pin locations and distance to hazards as well.

Been really happy with it. Has everything you need.

Spewing I bought mine for waaaaaay over $20....

Better than the Neo? - Not sure, never seen or used the neo.

Can you add your own points? You can measure from current position to any other position on that whole. It will work out distance to that point and remaining to the centre of the green.

Do they have all courses? - They quote 1000 in Australia on their website, plus with the USB cable you can always upload the latest courses mapped.

Good stuff. I'm happy with mine, especially for working out how far I've hit the ball. Eg 165 to get over the water, that one went about 163 :)
