Now that Augusta has allowed women to join, when will Fernwood drop the wall and allow men to join?

exactly..excellent point... its augustas decision obviously but all these feminists who go on about men only clubs need to look at themselves... i wonder what would happen if a man wanted to join fernwood.. there'd be uproar.. just wonder how welcoming some of the older male members will be towards these women.....why would a women want to join any club where they are not welcome.

Don't forget you have to be asked to join. You can't just roll up. Changing their constitution isn't going to see proposers putting forth Oprahs name any time soon methinks.

I played tennis in Augusta and the guy I was staying with was a member. I declined an invitation to play, not the smartest thing now that I think of it.

Billy Payne mistakenly approved Condolezza Rice, as he thought it was a side-dish for Bubba's 2013 menu selection.

At the end of the day it's just a golf course...

Those ladies will have so much fun playing together, when Condolezza is in town .... which wont be that often ...

Black AND female - they really are progressive down there!

Next move is to have a democrat member...

Given that it's a hilly course, do they allow golf carts on course? I assume some of the older members might have a bit of trouble scaling the slopes.

Good idea TTR ... that place would be much better with cart paths all around it ...

currently have no womens tees at Augusta, just members and masters.

These women are members, so off they go!

A question, not an idea Marto. I assume that some of the well healed fossils who are members would find it tough climbing the hill on 18. Maybe the caddy piggybacks them.

They are progressing at the speed of light all of a sudden

Ah. So you are only allowed in if you like women.

Does that mean you can guarantee there are no ghey men in the Augusta membership??? ;-)

So being deep south, what colour will they paint the back markers?

Who cares, really? It wasn't that long ago that professional golfers couldn't enter a golf clubhouse. Now they own golf courses and some are treated like kings. Smart decision by the Augusta Board, IMO.

By the look of that, she doesn't mind letting the big dog eat. Maybe she doesn't play like the typical female golfer (i.e. five practice swings, pause for 30 seconds at the top of the back-swing, duff the ball 15 metres, talk about how awesome knitting is, rinse and repeat)? :smt061

LPGA professional Amy Alcott scored an ace on the 16th hole at Augusta National over 10 years ago during a special invitational event. I guess this means that women have been playing on the course but only by invitation.

It will be interesting to see if the R & A follows Augusta National's lead. There will be heated debate in St Andrews no doubt.

we went to st. andrews quite a few years ago and when the good wife found out she wasn't really that welcome there she made us leave straight away.. to this day any mention of the st. andrews club gets her fired up...funny to see.

I remember back when the whole Martha Burke thing was going on reading on one of the golf magazines that there were a lot of rounds played by women at AN. They have never excluded women from the course, only from holding memberships. Many of the members spouses played quite regularly.
