Or....Tomsons last hurrah before the worlds first silverback gorilla babies are born in captivity. David Attenborough's bringing a national geographic crew in to livestream the birth. Should be a ratings winner:twisted:

Dunno if there's anyone in Townsville anymore but we're planning the following. Feel free to jump on board. Also keen for info on course conditioning

Friday October 12th an afternoon round at Rowes Bay. Possibly taking in the par 3 course.

Saturday October 13th morning comp at Townsville

Saturday night we're going to see Australia v New Zealand.

Sunday morning comp at Willows before driving home.

geez, a week earlier and I could have joined you lot. I'll be in Ingham the last weekend of the school hols, then heading up to Cooktown and around the place in the following week. I'll be at Rocky on the way home by the time you guys are in Townsville though.

I'm in. Willows is a bit so so at present, unless It's improved after recent rain. Had a ball at Rowes Bay, thinking about joining. Unsure on Townsville. Last I'd heard their treatment plant that supplies water to the course had crapped itself. Everything dry except tees and greens.
Leave it with me and I'll suss it out, haven't been in the loop for a month or two.

I may be keen as well. My son will be 19 on the 11th October, so a leave pass will be no trouble.

Don't make me wet myself. Everything is dead and dry in Townsville all year round, even the people :)
The treatment plant feeds the town supply anyway, that's why they all look the same :)

Quick update from my end. My son is there for the week for Tafe for his apprenticeship. He wanted to stay on for the test match, so this fits in nicely. There will be 2 for golf all 3 days and for the test match.

I was told today that Townsville GC has lost their greens, and lost their members to Willows.

Dazza
12th September 2012, 08:58 PM
Townsville currently having an issue with greens. Apparently a rare bug that also hammered Mareeba greens a while ago? This is from a course worker who often comes into work. Treatment plant is apparently back up and running so that can only help the situation.

From Townsville Golf Club newsletter.

From Grounds
Members will have noticed a lot more growth on the greens. Unfortunately this has resulted in a slower putting surface and a bumpier roll of the golf ball. The greens are improving from week to week and hopefully things will move rapidly as temperatures heat up.
Greens will be renovated from 17 September (4-5 days). Please give way to the course maintenance staff and wait until they wave you up before hitting. After the renovations we will slowly improve the pace of the greens. Temporary greens have been prepared on No’s 6, 10 and 11 and may be in play after renovations. Members will notice the fairways browning off over the next month due to a crow’s foot eradication program.

Courty
12th September 2012, 09:14 PM
Thanks Dazza. It'll be a month after renovations by the time we get there. And in any case, all the damage is done to our scores before we even get to the greens.

There's likely to be a slight change of plans... we're looking at coming Saturday to Monday now. I just gotta try & sort the accommodation out first.

Guys, I just played ADF Regionals & Interservice in Townsville mid last month.

Rowes Bay was in pretty good nick although some of the greens were a bit patchy in places & they all rolled a little bumpy; The Willows was in superb condition; dry due to lack of rains but, fairways & greens were in great condition.

Talking to some of the local Townsville Army & Airforce chaps, Townsville GC is in a woeful state at present with little to no grass on the majority of greens. It would seem from Dazza's post that the grass is beginning to grow back but, from what I heard in mid August it seemed that Townsville was a good place not to play at present.

Can't recommend the Willows highly enough & Rowes Bay was entertaining; friggin tiny greens though :-)

You might find Rowes Bay tougher than you think
