Gavin Simms Memorial CupBusselton GC and The Links Kennedy Bay27th and 28th of October 2012$1.85 – DC68 – Perennial favourite. Only question mark is whether he can handle the travel.$4.50 – NK – NK playing off 10 is golf’s version of Black Caviar carrying 48 kilos.$7.00 – Marto65 – Finally discovered form. Might not be able to pull himself away from the mirror.$7.00 – Nuffiethegolfman – Always a threat… to a low marker’s Nutsac. SMS and Jack will have the Nuffster orgasming with their games and the Nuffster will be hanging on their balls like Tourfit on a doughnut. $8.00 – Jack – Flights over will cost him a fortune in baggage excess after taking over 4 sets of TaylorMades.$8.00 – SMS316 – Will be weighed down by the weight of expectation weight.$8.00 - Johnny Canuck – Previous winner is always a threat. Will be stealing a peak at the top of the leaderboard, similar to Rubin at the urinal beside SMS and DC. Heavy favourite for Friday skins money.$9.00 – IDgolfguy – A Thursday round at The Vines with Cosmo could tire him out. Hopefully, they’ll play some golf there as well.$9.00 – Veeman – Known for managing his cap and never allowing it to get to a level that he can’t handle, the wily Veeman is always lurking, like Rubin at a ghey bar.$10.00 – TWM – Odds will blowout greatly if paired with SMS while using his belly putter and graphite shafts.$10.00 – Bergsey – Has the swing, the cap and the looks. Will make the drive to Bunbury in 56 minutes without speeding. $12.00 – Simmsy – He could turn back Father Time and still be too old. The only way he could serve up two good rounds is if he got a bartending licence.$13.00 – Veefore – Can always putt, which makes him a threat. We’ll see how his back hold up after DC tries to get a piggyback from him. $14.00 – Shadesy – Since he has tried to get to single figures he has struggled to break 100. Odds of $1.01 that his ass will make an appearance before the first shot is hit on Friday.$14.00 - Jeffo - The other WAnker virgin, but not in the Rubin sense of the word, is bringing his deceptively large cranium down south for the all star weekend. Could crumble under pressure.$14.00 – Zuesgolf – The token Puerto Rican is a lock to chase Bunbury Shanks around town. That’s about it. Don’t get a speeding ticket with him in the car, he won’t help you out.$17.00 – Grumpy – Will struggle to recover from 6 hours on a plane with NK.$17.00 - MegaWatty - Red head. Nature's mistake. Odds on to be the leading moderator in the field.$21.00 – Hocko – if the odds were to finish the week with less clubs than you started, Hocko would be the strong favourite.$21.00 – Yossarian – A beautiful swing for a hacker is marred by and ugly putting stroke for an epileptic having a seizure. $21.00 - Golfnut – Will be amazed if the wife lets him out. Ghey 180m fades don’t win championships.$31.00 - Cosmopolite – A popular darkhorse. She’ll have a chance if she can mentally prepare herself to play off the whites. Hopefully the toilet facilities are adequate for her.$51.00 – Ashes – Another giant that can’t hit the ball more than 200m. Will be tired from the commute. His non- attendance overnight has spawned rumours of a relation to Golfnut.$101.00 – Rubin1909 – Likely to be bringing up the rear.Tommyg “odds suspended” due to lack of a handicap. Rumour is the committee won’t permit a cap of more than 10 as NK has already used up all the sandbags.

I've put some comments in based on previous form in the Champs.

$1.50 $2.15 – DC68 – Odds slashed due to handicap manipulation.
Besides the win on debut in 2006, there is nothing special in the results and nothing suggest that this year will be any different. I am not one on the dc68 bandwagon/bus.

$4.00 – Nudgee – Defending champion (albeit under controversial circumstances). Tough to beat.
Results suggest he might have been steadily building up to last year's win with a top 10 the year before. Anything outside of that would be a failure.

$5.00 – NK – Captain Sandbags will again contend.
One top 10, but you'd think he is always capable of winning.

$6.00 – Oxy – Following the trend of handicap dodgers at the top lines of betting.
A previous Champ, who missed by a long way in defence of the title (17th). He might be ready to bounce back, but who knows since he has been very quiet on the OZgolf front.

$7.00 – BrisVegas – Pelican is built for his power game.
6 out of 8 times in the top 10, including a win. A quality Champs player regardless of form coming into it.

$7.00 $8.00 – SMS316 – Played solidly off the black tees last week. May be his one good round for the month though.
A previous runner-up and playing on his home course. An off year last year, might mean an on year this time around.

$10.00 – Timah! – Hopefully he can find a tighter shirt than last year.
9th last year in his first full Champs, the handicap has come in, but so has his game. I doubt he will go too hard on Sat night, so he's in with a chance.

$10.00 – Hux – If he can keep the shanks under control will contend.
A promising debut with 3rd in 2009, but has let the weekend get the better of his golf thereafter. I wouldn't put my money on a cyclist to win, although OZgolf doesn't do drug testing yet.

$10.00 - Choppa - 18 hole champion.
Last year's bad result is probably reflective of this attention to golf now, as Champs form prior to this is very handy. IMO he has never recovered from the 4-putt to lose the first Champs. Terrible Odds.

$10.00 - Marto65 - May struggle to get away from the mirror.
38th last year and not much of a form line coming in. Meh.

$10.00 – BrisWesty – Goes under the radar. Actually he goes under most things.
Scratched.

$12.00 – AndyP – Keeps hiring mods to reduce his workload. Will be well prepared.
Has never threatened the top of the leaderboard. This won't change.

$12.00 – LeftyHoges – Red head. Nature’s mistake.
On debut he may surprise himself and the field. Smokey.

$12.00 – Tomson – The most highly fancied of the Cairns entrants. Not hard given his competition.
Dunno. One round doesn't really count as a formline.

$12.00 – Titleist – Did SFA last year but mustimprove on that.
Has got the nasty debut out of the way, but the odds are too short.

$15.00 – Daves – Experienced. Very very experienced.
13th, 19th, 28th. Yuk!

$15.00 - Virge666 - Will be on the range from 7am fiddling with swing theory. May end up with some hybrid stack and tilt/Jim Furyk special.
Slipped under the radar for a 3rd last year. If the scores aren't high, he might be a chance.

$15.00 – Ferrins – Running at $1.50 to withdraw and re-enter the event.
Has results of 3rd and 17th. The 2010 form doesn't seem to exist anymore.

$15.00 – Iain – May have concerns about his fake tan wearing off.
Like BrisVegas, he is always thereabout with 5 top 10 finishes and a previous winner. Could win if he is on.

$15.00 – Popper81 – Shown recent form. Might be using it all up too early though.
Debuted last year in 30th, but his focus is on the Champs nights, not the days.

$19.00 – ShazzaRS – Unknown quantity. Never played a Champs sober before.
7 Champs with nothing great to report (no top 10s). 8th time lucky? Probably not.

$19.00 – Flowergirl – Will be in bed at 8pmafter a nice warm glass of milk.
Will need a lot of improvement to contest 5th time around.

$19.00 – Goonie – Will be more concerned about his equipment.
2 Champs to his name with a 2 year gap now. 9th last time around, and may get around the same.

$25.00 – Lucastro23 – We all know that South Africans are chokers.
Too inconsistent for me, but maybe that is worth betting on.

AndyP
31st August 2012, 12:17 AM
$33.00 $25.00 – Courty – Self-confessed form slump.
LOL

$25.00 – Damoocow – Bigger chance of Jack Reed caddying for him.
A top 10 finisher several times in the earlier years, but those days are gone.

$25.00 - BroKar - Member at Wantima. Playing a course built for adults will test him.
One Champs for a 6th. Can he back it up? He might be worth betting on.

$25.00 – PeterRS – Won’t beat Shazza or he will be in the dog house.
Some good results in the past before fading then a shocker last year. Maybe next year.

$25.00 – Lobsta – Will attempt a Champs/Coin against the wall double.
Unknown, but anything can happen with stableford.

$33.00 – Jono – Will win the long drive and not much else.
+1

$33.00 – Cosmopolite – Will be better for not travelling around the world in the week leading up.
I get the feeling that the event doesn't suit the ladies.

$41.00 – Kev – Will be missing Bruce.
Yeah, nah.

$51.00 – Xray – Has some impressive history at Pelican.
Extremely impressive....in crapiness. Pass.

$51.00 – GC - Contender for the Blue Balls.
The past 4 years results' suggest alcohol first, golf second.

$101.00 – Johnny Boy – Will be thowing a leg over all week. No energy left for golf.
Won't get near it.

$501.00 – Shavey – Spud.
7th and 5th to his name. Since then....spud.

What sort of formline do Champs have?

2004 - Iain - debut (obviously)
2005 - gazgolf - 3rd the year before
2006 - dc68 - debut
2007 - BrisVegas - 5th, 4th, 21st
2008 - Davemason - 5th (2005)
2009 - petethepilot - debut
2010 - Oxy - debut
2011 - nudgee - 8th, 24th, DNP, 17th, DNP, 16th, 10th

In summary, it's random, as you'd expect from amateur golfers.

With the Saturday Champs Round an Official Club AGU Comp, do the odds reflect that the NQ Participants will not be sure whether to Sandbag their Handicap or shoot a good score for the Champs round?

Shadesy wouldn't be able to tell you as the green was unsighted - just the top of the flag. I believe he was in the RHS rubbish.
We were at the back of the green when we saw the ball fly onto the green with one bounce and check 3 feet from the pin.

I had a good Lie Jack, I drove Right side, inbetween 10 and 18, was just on a nice first cut. 147 to the pin, hit a smooth 7. I could just see the top of the flag.
Just went at the pin real smooth, line was good, didn't see it land, but heard some clapping from the top of the hill.

Was looking to make par, that was a bonus. 5/3, 3/4 Finish is nice :-)

Well played to you too mate (Jack), awesome Golf.

Thats a great shot from there mate.

I was thinking at the start of the second round that if ID or I could manage 33 points, for a total of 68, that it would be very hard for someone to get past us on such a tough course. For most of the first 13 holes TourFit and I were about level, and it was only when we checked the thread to see that ID was about the same, but that you had 28 after 13 holes that I thought we were going to finish a shot or two short. We didnt know what you had finished with until we were on 18. Fit finished really strong with birdie/par for two 3 pointers after wiping 16. I had two good birdie chances on 17 and 18 but couldnt convert either so I can't blame anyone but myself.

It was great how it all came down so tight on the last hole. And JC storming home to just miss as well!

Missed 4' birdie on 17 for 4pts. 146m middle of fairway, 2nd shot which I pulled left and lost. Provisional was 12' which I missed by 2" to finish 6-1.

Nice work Shades, and good to drop the putt with the champs on the line too.

I would have three putted from there. Made the comment to Hocko and NK that I was putting like a raging pro homo. I lagged nearly everything, including one from about 1.5 feet...
