View Full Version : Olympics ... What should be in ... whats should be out?

Ok ...

I think Syncro Swimming, Tennis, Gymnastics and anything that needs to be judged to get points .... with the possible exception of Boxing.

I dont think golf should be in the olympics either. We have our 4 majors. The only way it should be in is if they only let Amateurs play it.

I do think that Tenpin Bowling should be in it. Softball was ok with me too. Squash should be in ... anything with a proper scoring system or involving timing someone is better than getting 'judged'.

Get rid of all swimming except freestyle.
If not, add events for running backwards, hopping on one leg and sack races.

You do know that dressage is the first part of the 3DE, followed by cross country and then showjumping. And it is strictly scored on faults, same as gymnastics these days. Maybe look at what the criteria are to be an olympic sport instead of waffling on.

I am surprised that Ten Pin is not in the running Marto, it would have to be pretty global.

No logic...
Most of the athletes get paid in one way or another, so they are all "professional"
All of the Boomers are playing o/s professionally, just the way it is.....
I read somewhere that the US want to revert back to a "College" based team?
Checkout Usain Bolts earnings.....

Anything that has judges determining the result should be out, ie no diving, gymnastics, boxing etc.

Anything that has competitors sitting is also out, ie cycling, rowing, kayaking.

In's should include darts, pinball, punting on the races, ladies strip Texas hold em, pole dancing etc. Stuff people really want to see.

I agree on the dressage .... next they will want Dog Trials .. (look what I taught my horse .... and now look what I taught my dog ..)

Darts would be cool ... and the shooting is fine by me too .... at least they have scoring systems.

The White Water Kayak is one of my favourite events ...

Sorry, it's gone - decision made!

In all seriousness, I think the concept of white water kayaking in an artificial river to be really contrived (akin to a surfing comp in a wave pool or flowrider). I also find it rather boring to watch.

Some of the sports that I think should be retained are boring also, but they're classic olympic sports.

I enjoy the olympics because you get to see unusual and interesting sports. Kayaking, Fencing, Pentathlon, Handball, bmx, sailing, diving, equestrian etc.

I am saddened by Tennis, Golf and Soccer being included, but just because they get a lot of exposure anyway.

Basketball Dreamteam got rolled in 2004. To be the best you have to play the best. The concept of amateur sportsmen at the olympics died a long time ago.

I don't think there is a better test of a persons courage and ability to perform under immense pressure than Coin Against The Wall. CATW is a must.

Is this due to your abject failure to win at it?

Gymnastics and judo.
Diving and skeet shooting.

Each to their own, but you are calling for things to be removed from the Olympics, not whether you enjoy them :D

Since you dislike horses I guess the animal stuff is a no go for you ;)

Well if i don't enjoy watching the event, that is a pretty strong indicator that I think it should be removed.

As for animals, not really.

Agree 100% Moe, I also think the other sports like road cycling should be amateur and not use the professionals. At least boxing does it.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I dont mind all those dinky sports that get a run, because they get stuff all exposure any other time so its great for the lovers of those sports including dressage and the pretty swimmers. The only golf that should be including is something like Long Driving.
