Currently in 3rd place with one round to go.

she's got a bit of work to do to catch Annika though

great start to her pro career though

She is struggling today and is +2 for the day thru 10, 10 strokes behind Annika. As Jarro said though great Pro Career start.

Looks like she is going to finish 4th out of a field of 18. A mere TWELVE shotes behind Anika. Oh and two places behind a certain other teenager who has won twice already this year.

I believe this takes Wie to 0 wins in 25 LPGA starts. But I don't suppose that is important as it is the PGA that she is focussed on.

And before anyone says it yes it is a good effort for a 16 year old.

Grunt
17th October 2005, 08:21 AM
Well she finished 4th so I guess that is not as well as she would have liked but to us normal people that is awesome.
Also it may have been a statement from Annika too. Winning by 10 shots is awesome golf. I hope Wie's debut does not hide this fact.

BREAKING NEWS

WIE DQ'D FROM FIRST PRO EVENT

So not only did she get her arse kicked but she has been booted for cheating on Saturday (just stirring about the cheating -apparently an incorrect drop and hence incorrect score card).

Mmmm those marketing dollars just took a beating!

Man, how good is it to be Michelle Wie? You are only 16, can already play this game better than most people on this planet, you've got the looks, the media loves ya, you've got a multimillion dollar contract (and you've got bunch of guys drooling over your pictures on the net  ) ... I don't think she's going to lose sleep over coming 4th. Sure she hasn't won an LPGA tournament ... YET. She's got many more years ahead of her to change that. Let's sit back and see how she goes.

That could work in her favour ... Imagine the extra publicity ...

I just hope she does not do a Tracy Austin, Jennifer Capriati or any of the other young stars that peaked too early and suffered from the fact they never got to act like a normal kid whilst growing up. I know they are not golfers but they were elite athletes that started out very young and were overcome from the pressure of all the media attention.

Another of my opinions that might get a few bites.

pity....

sure the money earnt from 4th would have been helpful in getting her card....assuming money earnt from this counts....

Playing on the Asian Tour in Korea this week - shot 2 under in R1 which puts her well within the cut prediction - plenty of Aussies in the field with Adam La Vesconte in front at 7 under.

miro

More marketing junk from team Wie. Her it comes:

"Michelle Wie youngest ever womer to make a cut in a mens pro event"

Lets just ignore the completely crap quality of the field. When her reality aligns with her promise then we will all be truely impressed. Qaulifying in a Korean tour event?? who cares!!

cazandpaul
5th May 2006, 10:30 AM
Bit harsh mate - the Asian Tour is reasonable these days, and while the field is not the strongest, it does include K J Choi and several decent Australians including Jarrod Lyle who shot over par.

Give the kid a break - she can't play regularly on the LPGA because of her age and when she does she goes OK and has a good record in the majors.

Not many 16 year old boys doing this well.

miro
5th May 2006, 10:53 AM
I don;t doubt her talent. However, I have seen enough of her marketing machine to doubt the sincerity of her journey to the "home" land to play in this landmark event.

PS Did you see she said the other day (shortly prior to landing in Korea) that she considered herself 100% Korean -interesting move considering where she was born, where she has made her money and the parochialism of a certain nation in which she makes her home.

cazandpaul
5th May 2006, 01:36 PM
Hadn't heard that - perhaps she just needs to let her golf do the talking.

Nike and the US 'golf' fans wouldn't be too happy if that were the case.

miro
5th May 2006, 02:16 PM
Did a bit of double checking and in fact it was her Dad -the PR machine:

" But you know what, the only thing about her that is American is her passport, she is definitely Korean. "
