Very sad news indeed.

He was a great man, bought a lot to this great game and was a decent bloke.

Sadly leaves behind a wife and young family.

RIP Jimmy.

It's rare these days to hear of someone who everyone liked, Champion on and off the field, very sad loss indeed.

Did any you guys ever meet Jim or have much to do with him?

Apart from yet again showing yourself to be a ****, what's your point?

Ummm timah, I'm just seeing if anyone here was involved with Jim through his charity work which was far reaching and a full time vocation for him. He was a terrific bloke, a thoroughly genuine person who was a pleasure to be involved with. I met him a few times through his charity work when I was involved in Banking / corporate golf stuff and a finer gentleman you would not meet. I'd be amazed if anyone had anything negative to say about him to be honest, but of course you never know.

Vale to a great Australian.

Jim would always give someone the benefit of doubt first, to be sure.

244 games in a row I think 69'er. He was a warhorse.

Spot on Jack. Remarkable effort that.

Most of us wouldn't have got out of bed with the injuries this man played with throughout his career.....did the same after his footy career too with his battle with cancer.

A truly great Australian. RIP Jimmy.

It's been said many times how truly inspirational this great man was. His work far and away exceeded the normal former footballer cliche and like Jack said I have never heard anyone say a bad word about him.

I'm not even ashamed to say I had a tear in my eye when I first heard the sad news this morning.

Admired for all the footy stuff, but revered for what he achieved after football.

Some modern players could learn his toughness

Ability To play through pain was incredible

If they ever make a full AFL Movie - his story would make a compelling film.

Holds the record for consecutive games played I believe.

RIP Jim Stynes

... and like Jack said I have never heard anyone say a bad word about him.Clearly I spoke too soon the "rent-a-quote, human headline" has even outdone his normal low standards. No wonder he has never been liked at any of the clubs he has played at.

Aker should have waited a bit longer before coming out with that.

Did he really play for a decade or something without missing a game ?
How is that possible playing ruckman ?

Played with 6 broken ribs in that time too. Not 1 broken rib each time but a full 6 ribs and played full games with a chest pad and guys hitting him intentionally.

Aker should have waited a bit longer before coming out with that. In the scheme of things he didn't say anything extraordinary.

Aker should have waited a bit longer before coming out with that. Not if he wanted to maximise his own exposure though AP.

Aker is a grub of the lowest order. The sooner he fades away the better!

The headline and what Aker actually said don't really match, but he could have at least waited until he was in the ground.

Akers said Stynes could be a little nasty on the field and questioned why he gets a state funeral over others.

He loves making these type of comments you have to question his motives at times.

Aker is a grub of the lowest order. The sooner he fades away the better! It's taken me along time to come around, I actually thought his "outspokeness" was good for the game. But I now couldn't agree more with those who want him gone.

And his last.

He was interviewed. Maybe the issue is motives is with the person asking the questions.
