I'm in the market for a new one - any recommendations? Should I drink the Weber kool-aid?

Will get used an average of 1-2 times per week. Mostly cooking for 2, but sometimes up to 10-12.

I drank the Weber kool aid about 12 months ago and I will never buy anything else again.
It is brilliant, BBQ's, Roasts, it does the lot.
I got the big one and I couldn't be happier.
Uses a lot less gas and is so easy to keep clean.

Weber Q 220 is what you want. The one with the high lid. I wouldn't buy anything else either. Cooks everything so much nicer than a normal BBQ. The 220 is plenty for a family, and also still small enough to take away camping or the like if you want.

The 220 won't be too small?

I have the Q300 which is now the 320.
I think if you are going to entertain up to 10-12 people you will need this.
I also got the half hot plate rather than the full grill version.

I tried out the Q220 and found that it really did not get hot enough to cook a steak properly. Worked well on almost everything else.

I've cooked roasts big enough for 8 people on it no problems.

I've cooked perfect steak in it plenty of times. Nice thick steaks, heat it right up, a couple of minutes each side, then finish off on lower heat...

You using it with the lid closed? The Q's need lid closed for all cooking.

Absolutely love our Weber Q, will never look back! Produces the best home cooked steaks I've ever had.

Put me in the anti Weber camp thanks. I prefer the more conventional style BBQ similar to what Jarro has (but not made of gold).

I have a Rennai Outdoor kitchen and it is great. Over 12 years old and replaced burners 18 months ago, still going strong.

What's the big advantage of the Weber over a traditional BBQ? Is it just that you cook with the lid down, so the food retains more of the flavour?

Steve57
14th March 2012, 06:19 PM
The food retains it's moisture, you use a quarter of the gas, and it is so easy to clean and maintain.
It is portable enough to take in and out of the garage/shed so no need to keep it out in the weather.
Will never ever have the other type again!
And no I have no allegiance to Weber other than being a very satisfied customer.

The Weber is a compromise between roasting and grilling I reckon.
So it depends what you really want it for, if it's for grilling the perfect steak I have the Neil Perry infra red one.
It is brilliant, but not really good for roasting (I have my wood fired pizza oven for that)

Can Weber's be connected to Natural gas? Love the fact I never run out of gas.

To be honest, I only originally bought the weber to take camping. But after a while ended up leaving it on the deck and use it 2-3 times a week. All meats, roasted or griled, are far better than I ever did in the old school BBQ or oven. So much flavour and moisture in the meats. I doubt ythere's too many people out there that have owned one and would go back to the old school.

Any gas bbq can be converted from bottle to natural gas (or the other way)...just have to replace the jets. Any bbq place will have the jets.

As Solarman alluded , I just got a Baby Q. It's great for us, but would recommend a bigger model if you are planning on cooking for 10-12.

Just,

My best mate has the Q220, and we use it for all our cooking needs whilst away camping. He seriously loves it ( jokes about throwing his old bbq away at home). Handles the job's so well and the range of things you can cook in it is outstanding. As a group we have started to try and cook the most outrages thing possible, and it always comes though. We have even cooked pizza's and cakes etc..

* I personally think the brush for cleaning is a must
* Has good steady heat for cooking on hot plates
* Can cook a little hot though, good for gas useage

Also the added height of the 220 over the 200 is must. It does a fantastic roast chook or and other meat. Veg come up great as well. I doubt you will regret your decision.

I agree with Popper as far as a Weber goes but I have got the big one the 320. It is brilliant.
Does everything they say it can do and does great roast spuds!
If you are not going to use it as a portable for camping and you can afford it, get the big one as Marto said.

Have the 220 and it is awesome, go the bigger one if you feed more people than 4

What the other guys said.

Whichever size you get, make sure you get the higher lid with thermometer (_20 series).
Get the genuine Weber cleaning brush, it's worth the extra dollars over generic brushes.
Get the trivet (roasting rack) as you will use it heaps.
You'll also want to consider one of the optional plates in case you ever want to fry some eggs.
