View Full Version : Your 3 wood replacement?

I was just wondering about those who don't play a 3 wood anymore; what what did you replace it with?

Mine's a 2 hybrid. About 20 metres shorter in distance but a helluva lot more reliable. My go-to club.

Yours?

I went to 16 deg hybrid a while back but currently on the look out for a V steel again as an alternative... I miss trying to hit driver, 3 wood on our par 5s to get there in 2 :) Plus V steels are the shiz.

i replaced my 3 wood long ago with a 14 of 15 degree hybrid, I easily hit the hybrids 80-100 metres further, but these days I have gone back to a 4 wood (15 deg)

I've got a v steel 15` 3 wood with hc, new grip & stock stiff shaft if your keen $35 pp

Still hit a 3 wood, tho i rotate them often.

The Adams Super Hybrid XTD is the absolute shizzle for replacing a 3 wood, apparently.

Had a srixon m steel with a v2 in it

I doubt its going anywhere!

Tinkering with a 13 deg titleist but doesnt fly off the face like the srixon does.Tried a couple of shafts in it - no luv.

I went the R11 16' hybrid, got rid of that and bought a forged Titleist CB 2 iron. Hit 3 great shots off the tee last Monday at Katoomba GC. Haven't hit it off the deck yet but more than happy with distance and ball flight off the tee.

I think if i was to ever dump the 3 wood out of my bag, i'd more than liley go with a 2 hybrid as well.

Hybrids are so versatile too.

Adams super hybrid 15 deg

I had one loved it - just couldn't hit it low enough for my track. Plus my 13 deg srixon is a keeper.

This hybrid is a fybrid - wider sole and longer shaft.

Matty you hit a 4 iron 260m up and over the hill on the back 9 at Magenta last time we played, why would you ever need to carry a 3 wood?

Back to the question....I don't carry a 3 wood any more, off the tee I can choke down on my driver for a 3 wood type result and the Nike VR is pretty good for shaping the shot, for shorter/higher tee shots or off the deck I use a Rapture V2 4 wood, fantastic club...Stu

5W with a 3W shaft. Chopshop clubs for chopper golfer :) I should probably hit it off the tee more often really.

19* orlimar trimetal. Goes longer than any three wood I've ever owned and a hell of a lot straighter too.

Got me a 2008 TM Burner 2H (bugged by my friend to replace the 3w). Went to the range yesterday to have a hit.

Knocked out the 3W!!!!

I have struggled with 3 woods for years, I drive it reasonably straight and never used a hybrid because I could hit them left around a corner.

Think I played for too long with 3 woods that were overly strong and I lost accuracy because of it.

Finally got to the point that if I was using 3 wood, it was a play to be more accurate than using the driver and now have a 15 degree, if it goes 200m with a bit of GF and lands on the fairway, I'm good. There is nothing worse than hitting 3 wood into the shizen (drives me mental), it's gotta be a go to club, if it isnt you might as well have another wedge.

Haha. Must have had a hell of a tailwind! ;)
I have a 3 iron but because I'm such a greedy prick on the course, and play with more emotion than intelligence, I want the extra 10-15m the 2 will give over the 3. I'm impressed with the Titleist but it's made me appreciate how soft the Miura's are all over again.
