Well I noticed today that I have a small crack/split on the top of my radiator. I figured there is proly a sealant out there that would fit the bill and I could just DIY. What do you think? There aren't any leaks anywhere else that I could find.

Self fix should do.

You might want to:

a) Go to Kmart to buy those anti-leaking additive and put into the radiator.
b) Keep an eye on the tempeture meter more often.
c) Always have a bottle of pre-mixed coolent in you boot.

Ona, you could try self fix but IMHO this is something to have fixed by a specialist. I do nearly all of my own mechanics but radiators go to the shop. Do a temp job till you can afford the time or money but then get it fixed proper. Murphys law states that this will S#1T its self in the middle of the bridge on a hot afternoon during rush hour. Visualise that shot then make your decision. Best of luck.

What wavemaker said.

What sort of car, Ona ?

89 Telstar

from what I've read today, if I go for a permanent solution I may be able to just replace just the tank. I think the core is fine. Called one place today and they said $130+ for a tank or $300+ for new radiator. Think I could find better than that.

Either way, I'll do something about it tomorrow.

Ona, i would not worry about it at the moment, we HAD an 89 Telstar Ghia with a hole in the bottom of the radiator for 6 months and it never had a problem, we were about to get it replaced then some stupid woman ran up the back of dad putting him into an accident in front of him and writing off the car (insurance write off) just be warned, the front bumper bars are $2K new
