Not a fan of the iron lofts being this strong.

Same as my Brosnan 9 iron.

Bidding on a set of Wishon 550c and the PW is 48*, much more to my liking.

I use a 45* cavity back as my 9.95 iron.

And a 50* forged blade for pitching.

Had Ping measure and bend it exactly when I got my i20's tour lofted!

I'm still trying to work out if its the stronger loft, the lighter shafts, or a combination of both, causing me to overshoot a lot of greens..... any help??

I liked what scratch did with Ryan Moores clubs, either last year or the year before, just listing the loft on the clubs instead of just a club number and also in 5* increments instead of 4*.

I like it! I play all my iron sets with 46 degree pw and 4 degree gaps right through. That means 4 iron is 22 degrees which is almost an old 3 iron. That speads the gaps enough to carry an extra wedge. 51, 56 and 60.
The other reason is as i have gotten older I still hit my pw the same distance i used to 15 years ago when I played a 48.

Wilson Di9 pw is 42.5 degrees..

My pw I think is 47

I also carry a 48 (bent from 50)

Why?

48 spins more and good for punch/knock down shots

I tend to think the pw from sets are basically a 10 iron.

Geoff Ogilvy has a similar configuration

I like the 48 for low chips that still spin a bit.Pw lands bounces forward a couple of meters then stops on full shots

About 5 or 6 metets difference in length.

You wouldnt need an extra wedge if the manufacturers did not get greedy about getting their irons to go further. One day we will all have to carry 6 wedges.

Had my PW bent back to 48 from 46 as it was going 5m short of my 9i.....it's now my solid 105m (110m pushed) club and probably my most used club in the bag.

Sorry my bad, i15's!
Mate wants the 20's, I won't be getting them!

yeah - I am stuck with 46 degree wedge.

bent the 52 to 50 and the 56 to 55.

only way to get the gaps right.

As a side line... check out Taylormades rescue clubs. The #3 is now 18 degree. The have gone up a degree every year for the last 4 years.

so now you need a 4 and 5 hybrid to go with your 3 wood . . .

I once had a Nickent hybrid that was 14*.

Can you imagine just how flippy you would have to be to make that work.

A 1 iron use to be 16 degrees and even with the soft balls of yesteryear - it was stupidly hard to hit...

It was trash, and that's being kind. Struggled to hit it as far as even my 4 iron at the time, whatever the hell it was that I was using.

I had a 14 degree hybrid, loved it over the fairway metal and i can never hit them off the deck. The 13 degree tour spoon is a good mix of wood and hybrid, but does go too far for what it is meant to do. Bad setup but its the only ones i have left!

I have M3J's old 14* now. Goes real well when I'm swinging well. Haven't played a lot since I've had it and never get to practice either but it can definitely replace a 3/4 wood in a person's bag.

I had a 15 hybrid and played well with it.

But it was too close to my 13 deg wood.

Hell why not a 10 degree wood. I used an old callaway bertha driver for a 10 degree fairway wood. Bad shot wasnr a cut but a hook

It think its now non conforming

Because the ball has changed... The new premium balls are like Hot Dots of yesteryear with a thin soft cover on them for greenside spin.

The reason none of the old equipment works anymore is because the softer balls of the old days have WAY more spin.

Take them on the golf course for a laugh... see how high they go . . . and they go no where.

What would the the soft ball on sale today?, the Precept Ladies IQ+?

Planning to do a pre '90s day sometime this year and drag all the old gear out.
