The Hot List is out (http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-equipment/2012-02/hot-list-drivers#slide=1). I know it's heavily criticised but fwiw, these are the gold medallists.

I bought the issue and it just doesn;t make any sense... either bad writing or just weird.

And the Cobra was FUGLY.

The issue is worth it thought for $5 on the iPad.

It continues to mystify me that there is a category which scores "demand".

+1

How about "Popularity"

Wouldnt the Demand category be better known as 'Advertising Budget'?

Nice colours, guess that is the extent of new driver "technology" these days.

Cheers BroKar. I missed seeing it there initially.

I put a direct question to Nike about the new driver on its Facebook page.

Script as follows.

Me - "Where'd the power channel go? Was it only marketing B.S.?"

Nike - "Hey, good question. The power channel was certainly not just marketing. It produced a trampoline-like effect for greater ball speed off the face. In the VR_S we focused on an even more aerodynamic head (to boost swing speed) along with variable face-thickness (NexCOR) for the hottest face around."

Did they forget anyone?

Sounds like a Burner Superfast...

Sounds like a Burner Superfast...

The comments on FB so far have been "looks like a cross between the Machspeed & VR". FWIW, the power channel does work (in my experience). I just wanted to know why they've more or less done away with it. My VR Tour has a small head (420cc) anyway. I don't really believe in all of this aerodynamic head hoo-ha.

Awesome...

...they replied to your question about marketing B.S with some NEW marketing B.S.!

I love the way the Ping gets 5 stars for performance and 3 and a half for innovation.

Does this mean that it's lacking the necessary marketing BS to make it a serious contender?

No mate, it's because it's not adjustable. It's a consistent result with all the non adjustables including the silver medalists.

When you read the comments every driver seems to be rated on its adjustability. I found it annoying to read, comments are either 'adjustability is confusing' 'there is no adjustability' 'not enough adjustability'.

There is more to a driver than adjustability, you want an open face? Open the face with your hands. You want more loft (hit it higher)? Tee it forward. You want it to be heavier? Put some lead tape on the sole.

Too old school reg, and lead tape doesn't generate income :)

If you wanted a new driver that was a gold medal winner you just about can't miss.
