View Full Version : Special: Handicap Challenge event - 2012

wasnt really sure where to put this one, but figured this would be a good place. (mods feel free to move this to a more appropriate forum/thread)

This is not for a particular day, but for 2012 as a whole. I've marked 2012 as the year for some significant improvement in my game and teh subsequent decrease in handicap. What I'd like to do is have a challenge between a few people (the more the merrier) on similar handicaps (mines 22) as to who can achieve the greatest level of improvement. As such, the only real way to measure would be a decrease in handicap.

FWIW - I'm keen to put an incentive on this (be it $$$ or something else of value) so its taken seriously.

Who is up to a challenge?

I almost reached my goal of single figures this year with the help of a mistake our handicapper made when he was inputting scores into golflink:) As it stands I am on 11 and would be willing to give this a go to see if it motivates me to reach singles next year.

What happens if you get down to plus figures (% wise)?

rubin

It still a reduction - i.e go from a 2 to a plus 1 u dropped 3 shots.

timah!

How about $50 a pop, to be paid by EOFY? Gives people time to put some $$ away, and will give the winner a decent kitty to buy new sticks to mess their game up with...

No, as you obviously have what it takes to turn pro.

Peppas
31st December 2011, 02:10 PM
How is this going to work?

It will be a little biased towards low handicaps if a % system is used, ie if PJ goes from 3 to 1 that's a reduction of 67%. For a hacker like me I'd have to lose something like 17 shots to match that. Just a thought. Perhaps we could group people into different "grades" or something of the like?

Yossarian
31st December 2011, 03:20 PM
Surely it is easier to drop shots as a high marker than a low marker?

That was my thinking. It would be far Easier for someone in my position to drop a couple of shots than it would for sms/jc etc.

peter_rs

It didn't work before.... If it is that easy for you to lose shoots and keep them off why aren't you a low marker already.

Most of us could improve if we hard the drive too

Spoken by a person who have never tried to go from 3 to 1... I would rather do 17 to 5 than 3 to 1, any day of the week.

Easy solution.
2 grades. 1-15 and 15 up.

$25 in everyone, done on percentage - winner takes all in each grade

Just think next time you have a double bogey on the 1st or second hole . . . just think to yourself, "That all my handicap gone!"

9 out of your 20 rounds will have to be 1 over or better.

Now tell me again how easy it is to go from 3 to 1 ????

:) :) :)

virge666
1st January 2012, 08:10 PM
We shoudl also make it the lowest handicap for the 12 month period - not just what your handicap was on Dec 31 2012.

Some people can put in the yards at different times of the year . . .

A graders, all you hear is wahhhh when they bogey. It's like they've forgotten how to enjoy the game. Waaaah :)

Some holes I'd be happy with a double bogey :)

I like the lowest handicap for the 12 month period. Got a wedding and a no golf honeymoon at the end of the year so.... :(

I think AndyP should come up with a formula to determine the winner that factors in handicap, round frequency, number of club changes over the course of the year, home course slope rating, known swing flaws and their impacts, lesson budget, mental toughness, percentage of stroke rounds, effective driving range sessions, total cost of golf equipment, fitness, ozgolf post count, average handicap of playing partners, number of lost balls, average club throwing distance, annual precipitation and postcode.
