There is a jailbreakmatrix website
Match up your device and firmware and it lists the method and links to youtube

Just look up the dev team blog. I'm staying on 4.2 until an untethered break for 5 comes out.
Free apps rock!

Done it to my iPad. Best thing I have ever done. Free apps, jailbreak specific apps, the freedom to do what you want with your device, discounts, speedy claims, rating one for liiiife, loyalty benefits...

Umm, might want to rethink that. Jailbreaking doesn't exactly fall into apple's definition allowable uses of the device. Best case scenario, they laugh you out of the store, worst case scenario, Steve jobs' zombie corpse rises from the ground and has its way with you.

If your phone isn't working after a jailbreak attempt, just plug it into your computer and do a factory set through iTunes.

Ok, so I had issues with the actual handset ie reception etc....
Made an appt with Apple store sat afternoon, they replaced the phone no questions asked (as my sim worked in other peoples iPhone 4)!!!!!!!
My new handset runs v 5.0, it's asking me to update to 5.0.1 which I'm not going to do.
Anyone jailbroken their 5.0?

MegaWatty

Nope. I have my reasons for not jailbreaking. Mainly because of the ANZ app that I use regularly knowing that the phone has been JBen and warning you before using the app.

Anyway, enjoy the totally awesome battery life that 5.0 presents. ;)

I didn't know that there were any apps that could tell that you were jailbroken? Would have thought apple would have gotten onto that to stop it happening...

5.0 JB is tethered.

MegaWatty
1st January 2012, 03:48 PM
Untethered JB for 5.0.1 is out for non A5 processors.

I thought I'd give it a crack out of curiosity again. Can someone please explain why I would want my phone jailbroken? It slows it down so badly and there really seems no reason to do it.

In the words of an Ipswich politician....Please Explain.

The benefit of getting a few $2 apps compared to the speed difference isn't worth it. Plus all the lack of known updates whilst using Appulous. If I want an app, I'll just buy it.

Still have found very little extra in Cydia that rocked my socks.

Back to a speedy device again and I love it. :)

I noticed no change in speed on my iPad

MegaWatty

The phone was shite!

Eldrick
2nd January 2012, 05:05 PM
its worth it for lockinfo & SbSettings alone

MegaWatty
2nd January 2012, 06:21 PM
Hmmmm. I didn't think so.

I guess as a super heavy user of my device (most WAnkers will attest to this) any sort of drop of speed is just painful. :(

I agree. I also do banking etc. don't feel comfortable using a JB device and especially if I don't know who has done the work.
