View Full Version : What?!? More down time?!? FFS! - Server Upgrade

AndyP
16th November 2011, 10:26 PM
The site is finally upgrading to a better package. Last time we changed servers it was pretty smooth in terms of downtime. Here's hoping it's the same again and the slow/hang issues are resolved as a result of the upgrade.

Updates will come via the Facebook page.

They have already transferred the files and databases across for me to test, so it could happen as soon as tonight. Expect the usual delay for DNS propagation.

Time it perfectly for the WAnker happy hour traffic and you could reduce the need for any mod work tonight too.

I've changed my mind. Maybe tomorrow night.

AndyP

I've been able to test the site on the other server tonight, and it is working fine (except one minor issue), so I will get our hosts to do an updated transfer tomorrow (Saturday).

I will close the forum down in the evening and reopen it on Sunday morning or when they are finished, whichever comes later.

Not long to go now.

Who knows what the site will come back as?

AndyP

Good job Andy, site feels quicker but Yoss is still here. :(It would want to be quicker; we've gone from $10/month to $40. The real test will be in the evenings, but there is no reason for it to be slow now as we aren't sharing servers with other sites and being restricted in settings.

It is like lighting, maybe deleting all references to the 80's would speed it up even more. As the 80's was clunky, analogue and shit.

Do you use WiFi at home for your Blackberry our is it via network? If network then the new dns settings must have propogated for your network but not yet for your service provider.

Bigpond always seem to be the slower ones.
All you can do is wait, Steve, unless you want to muck around editing your host file.

lappie #2 (64 bit I think), changed over the ip thingy and it worked ok but as soon as I clicked on new posts it went back to the message about the server change and keeps on doing it.

You need to set up the Ozgolf Golf Club and charge the punters to maintain a handicap and insurance (plus a profit for you of course).

AndyP
26th November 2011, 07:05 PM
Is it being a Mac relevant? Have you checked your host file to make sure that there isn't some redirect from last time?

No, Mac was a reference to the platform, as opposed to iPhone/Tapatalk.

Don't understand the rest :p
