Johnny Canuck
9th January 2012, 09:39 PM
I am going to clear it with the wife. It's my bday weekend and she will no doubt have plans.

It's the same weekend as Joondy, but I would definitely play the bay now that they are no longer charging $80 for this.

hocko
9th January 2012, 09:40 PM
I am!

Johnny Canuck
9th January 2012, 09:40 PM

Still haven't committed to Joondy or KB yet, but wish they didn't clash! This is the only two days of the year I think that visitors can play comp round Joondy unless you have contacts on the inside.

Slim shadesy - whats the course looking like this time of year? From what a few blokes were saying on the weekend, both kb and secrets are looking 100%......

Course is pretty good, some greens are feeling the effects of the heat wave! 11 is struggling still from the damage last year, 14 is pretty bad with plug marks and kangaroo damage. Most others roll pretty true!

Watch out for fire damage on 14 and 15!

Wouldn't it be funny if Rubin ended up with Dave1? Or are you in a group with Hocko and Shades?

Groups I think are decided Thursday, closing date was Saturday just gone.

You chose the 2nd best course Nuff. That's a tough one. Both are fantastic in so many different ways. It's impossible for me to say either is better than the other. But the first time at Joondalup, there was this electricity in the air. The holes there seem to get the adrenalin going. I felt that again two weeks ago and can't wait til 2pm today!

Joondalup Open is a Paxton event so it's going to be set up hard.

I led this after day one in about 1994. Think I shot 86 day two though to drop well back. I blame my housemate at the time who had an impromptu party on the Saturday night and had Chris Isaak songs being played excessively loud until about 4 in the morning.

Shadesy
16th February 2012, 01:28 PM
I think the Girls tee off first Sunday Morning, So yes Rubin you might be a chance!

There are some massive Choppers at our club, bloke plays off 35 and regularly shoots 135 plus!

Just been to Fit's Emporium and he fitted me with the exact same Shaft for my 3 wood, so I don't have to really worry about hitting it before Tomorrow.

Thanks mate, did a fantastic job on short notice. Thanks to Simmsy too!

First score in...

91/78 which after 51 on the front, I was pleased with! 3 birdies, a nearest to pin on 6 which may hold 5 feet (playing 200+), a hit pin on the last which would of given me 38!

Topped first tee shot, 3rd from the tee, snap hook, hit trees, sat down in rough! 8 to start! Then a 6,4,9 and it was nearly home time!!

Got a chance if I go low tomorrow!

I noticed that I saw you on 2nd tee and we were on the 9th tee... We finished 18 as you were on the 10th tee.

It always sux having a round that long but I can't ever imagine KB in a stroke comp ever being swift at the back end of a field. The round at Joondalup took 5 hrs exactly. There was four groups waiting on the dunes par 3, 13th. One of the guys in front reloaded multiple times that hole and on some others. Got to love stroke rounds on tough courses. My playing partner (from Wanneroo) was playing so well, until quadruple bogey struck on the 17th hole of the day (ouch).

If the old pre shot routine still existed, and you were in a group with TommyG and Rubin it might take you guys 18 mins to get off the tee.

The OzGolfer formerly known as Golfnut v1: Waggle...waggle...look...waggle...FREEZE!...start over. Repeat.

TommyG: How far is it to...I might hit a little cut punch...goes to bag, grabs club...how far is it again?. Repeat.

Rubin: Hits ball 1. Goes back to bag for a provisional. Hits that (and quite possibly a house, too). Reloads again. Repeat.

Yeah there was. But they arnt telling the right people or doing anything about it. They asked us to hurry up on the 3rd as we were about to tee off. Problem with that is that the group in front had literally just walked off the green.

They had a notice that all rounds must be completed within 4.5 hours for scores to count, but the one of the guys in the group infront of us tore his card up on the 7th and then ****ed around for the remaining holes.

It's funny as I usually don't blame luck, but I hit probably 3 bad shots all day that cost me about 8 strokes!

Pured a hybrid on 6 that just stayed left, straight into the middle bunker! No swing, into the divot! No swing, Into the divot, smash it on, 3 putt 7!

11 I got handsy on a 3 wood, not the worst shot, wind took it, instea of the crap but findable stuff on the left, into a tree, drop chip out into bunker 7!

15 absolutely smash a driver into the wind, slightly pulled hybrid, wind got it kak on the left made 7.. Just such small margins for error today for such huge results!

Johnny Canuck
19th February 2012, 10:04 PM
Thanks everyone. I'll give 1/10 of a Tourfit rundown to try and keep it short.

Started horrible. Decent tee shot, took a vicious hard left kick and we all saw it drop straight down. Got there, no ball. Provisional was in the bunker. Up and down from 115m for 6, lead gone.

Bladed a flop on 3 that lead to a triple. I had the worst lie ever after the blade with my only play being to hit it into a bunker.

Played 5 shots on the par 5, 4th, but strangely scored 7 with two penalty drops. 7 over after 4.

From there, it was game on. I took a breath, stretched and actually yelled that it was time to start playing.

From there on it was solid golf. I played 1 over from there on in and parred the back 9.

I was clawing back and was down 2 with 3 to play when my opponent birdied and I bogied. I hit what I thought was a great chip and it checked too much.

On 17, I hammered two 3woods and still had a full pw (90m) into the green. My opponent was long in 4 and I thought I had him. He played and insane chip to 4 feet. I managed to drop my bird to get back to 2 down.

On 18 I hit my best 3w of the day and the other two in my group had to hit provisionals. The leader then hit 2 provisionals into the green, before he had a safe one.

Hit first ended up being so far right, he found his first towards the 10th tee and got up and down for par. I parred the hole to lose by two. The other guy in our group took an 8.

Runner up in gross, winner of best net, never thought I had a chance.

A great weekend for golf and even though I lost, I feel I gained a ton of confidence in knowing that I could hang with a +1 or +2 capper in super tough conditions. It was a good step for me mentally. After the rough start, I had no nerves at all, which allowed me to attack every shot.

Thanks to Mega and Simmo for the support over the two days.

Good work Rubes on your first "official" 100.

Awesome JC.. Well done mate!

JC has put it lightly but what I have been told the eventual "gross" winner got real lucky on 18! Amazing 76/76 wins a gross comp yet the course is rated at 73....

Get the raters out in the arvo and challenge them to shoot 100!
