I like for all the talk all week on how organisers are going to keep Williams and Woods separate, they then stick them a group apart at 12.00 and 12.10pm off the 1st.

Times like these... wish i was living back where I came from... Sydney instead of being stuck up on a mine site.

I played The Lakes twice in 2003 during Eric Apperly Shield pennants. It was the second best course I'd ever set foot on.

How good would it be now, with all the new changes and so many stars grazing it's grounds!

Captain Nemo
9th November 2011, 10:39 AM
Nuffie, im not a fan of the new layout.
Played it twice on the old, and loved it.
The new layout has too many sandy wastes, and the 13th (i think) has a terrible green, one of the worst designs, as is the 14th green???

I'll be there sunday - I'd like the internationals to do well, as it'd be a good advert for the tournament. Bit of a shame it's hosted at the lakes imo. That's as good of a line up the tournament has had as long as i've been about, and arguably ever - we have some great courses which would receive plenty of praise had they been the host. Not sure what the response will be to the lakes....

“The PGA Tour of Australasia confirms that no appearance fees were payable to John Daly for his appearance at the Emirates Australian Open or for his planned appearance at the Australian PGA Championship. This afternoon’s actions by Daly in withdrawing from the course constitute a breach of the PGA Tour of Australasia’s regulations and will be referred to the disciplinary committee as soon as practically possible. In view of that breach and a similar instance in Europe recently the PGA Tour of Australasia has withdrawn its offer to John Daly to play at the Australian PGA Championship.”

Channel 10 only had six tower cameras at the PGA last year. Showed 2 groups on each side and the cameramen just stayed with them. The coverage is terrible. No budget and it shows. Luke Elvy is a spud, and when he went on his high horse about the Daly incident it was over the top and cringeworthy.

Had a great day, got there at 8, left at 5, long day in the sun drinking!
Got up close to the "great one" on the range.
Had a brief chat with Bowdo on route to the range and while he was practicing (thanks for your time Bowdo)!
Followed Bowdo on the front 9, played very solid for a couple over in testy conditions, great bird on the first!
Saw some great shots, really enjoyed the day.

Heard on the Telecast that some rounds were well over 5 hours. I think 5 hours and 25 minutes was mentioned. Wayne Grady started a discussion with Baker-Finch about speeding up play and they seemed to be talking to have a shot clock as the 45 second pre shot routines were a little bit too much.

Baker Finch also talked about the long putter issue. He mentioned a simple rule for pros. Putter could be no longer than any other club in the bag.

I thought the coverage was fine - HD would have been nice. the interviews are OK.

Just the camera locations are a bit old school... we dont have the shot from behind to you can see the ball flight, or good slow mo or even some lower cameras to see just HOW MUCH slope is on the greens.

Guess they just dont have the cash for it.

Especially thrilling when they cut to the news at 5 yesterday. Could they not have been running it on HD as well so those that dont really give a f**k about Miranda Kerr or wtf her name is could stick with the golf. Talk about quality sports network....

The slow play thing just amazes me. They get to their ball so quickly, but guys like Day then have seem to have a 5 minute meditation session before they hit the thing.

Also can someone just flat out kick John Daley in the nuts already.

virge666
11th November 2011, 11:47 AM
I watched Day on the first have about 3 attempts at addressing the ball before he smashed at me on the dunes on the right... Tiger then had a lay down waiting for him to have his second...

Once he is over the ball - he is quick, but Sydney trains get to the platform before he does...

hah well said.

It's an odd thing for me to be watching a tournament on a course i've actually played. I find it amazing how flat the greens look. I know the short part 5 is absolutely nuts in terms of tiers and slope, and the par 3 ninth has this crazy little platform up in the top corner closest to the club house. I'm hoping they stick the pin in there on Sunday will be pretty nasty.

Makes me appreciate all the more just how insanely these guys putt. Tigers putt down 2 tiers on the par 5 yesterday to a meter was superb.

We did have this discussion last year, and while it is an easy shot at the Asians who are just not up to standard, the fact is that a bunch of Australians get starts in Asia where they may not have in the past. In the scheme of things I'm sure that Australian professionals come out in front.

Mate he looks even worse in real life! He and Peter omalley should go straight to belly putter, sendo's a 43" and peter's a 37" ;-)

Tiger lost the open on the 13th! Why pull driver, it is such an easy hole off the tee with an iron. Big block right, was lucky to get a swing for his second, even though he was lucky the ball bounced off the tree and stayed dry, he then chunked the third and nearly stuck the fourth but bogeyed whereas badass birdie it!

When was he in the lead for this choke to occur? The only thing Day could be accused of is trying too hard, and trying to bludgeon birdies. Tiger made some of the same mistakes, the 13th being a classic example of being too aggressive and paying the price when conservative play was delivering easy birdies.
