I know alot of the guys on here like to do their own paintfill on irons and putters etc, but Im just wondering if anyone has tried it on Driver and Fairway woods.

Im not looking to do anything on the crown of the club, but more so just a paint/colour touch up on the sole of the driver which has got some minor scuff/scratching from use. If you have done it, what did you use or what would you suggest. Im not all that keen on sending it off for a restoration or anything like that.

Cheers,

Golf balls work great for the crown of your clubs. Why worry about the sole? Any touch up, no homo, would be tarnished after a couple swings.

I was kind of hoping for a constructive comment - but its more for aesthetics to my own eye. I know it will get scuffed up again.....

At what point do you see it, when taking the headcover off?

It will get scuffed in 5 minutes.

Seems pointless.

Spend the time working on your putting.

It's actually true too, Rubin.

It would be worth doing it it if were on a 'visible' part at address...otherwise, there really is no point.

If steel grooves and faces get worn by impact with sand & debris (in between ball and face), then a thin layer of cosmetic paint is going to be worn at impact points all the more. Nothing to do except accept it as part of the deal. While OEM's keep painting up heads in the way they currently do, nothing will change. Look for drivers & FW's with 'bare' titanium sole plates etc...

If your driver soleplate gets scuffed in 5 minutes you need help.

If you're just doing it for fun, then use the same stuff as you would use for a putter. It'll scuff up the first time you use it though.
If you want it to last any longer than that then 2K automotive urethane will last a lot longer as it's a lot harder but it will still show wear pretty soon.

I'm going to give it a go on an r7 head I have lying around here just to see how it goes. I dont ground my driver at address, and I have been hitting it pretty cleanly off the tee. I know it will still scuff up, but I'll see how it goes.

A joke could be made about you liking nice clean bottoms
of clubs.

You could always put some lube on the bottom to reduce friction Lubin.

Rubin, I use marker pens and white paint pens.

See here. (http://www.ozgolf.net/showthread.php/8546-Mike-Spag)

Takes a bit of practice.

Next update could be fairly consuming and may get a bit messy. Hence the delay.

It's a mighty delay, just quietly.

Ceiling white seems about the right shade though. ;)

How much for the tee BTW (you still have it?)Tee? Do you mean the Vision Groove Cleaner? Funnily enough I still have that exact one. It was packaged and ready to send to Perth. I thought one of you guys would snap it up.

Recently picked up a fairway head that looked like it had been painted by hand with a paint brush to get rid of a sky mark. The face was extremely worn as well with the typical ball and wear marks you get from hitting crappy range balls.

I rubbd the face back with 660 grit wet and dry. It came up as new. On the crown I rubbed this back with 320 grit and finished with 1000 grit. Then taped the head and primed it. 4 coats of midnight black and 2 coats of clear.

Let it dry and harden for 3 days and just rubbed it with some polish and it looks near perfect. Paint I used was auto acrylic laquer.

I have a R9 driver coming next with skymarks and scratches, so will see how that goes.
