I think Petro is going to be very handy guy to be around the club.... His involvement around the group, (hannant, parker, thaiday) could be the polish they need to really hit their straps as the leaders the club needs. Also the like of Mcguire and Teo etc will cherish the chance to learn pick the guys brain.. I could see Petro's minutes being down on this year and the odd time when he will not start but come on late in the half and give the punch through the ruck around tired bodies. Still think he is a good buy. Not sure Dane Carlaw would agree though.

Am hearing the deal that Carney was offered with South's is way less money than both the Titans & the Sharks. He had talks with McGuire and the conditions he is under are very strong. If he cant handle them he may only be a short term 2012 player. Also am hearing he chose Souths after looking at the playing roster he was to join.

On the Prince to Tigers issue, I think you will find it is more about what happens at the Tigers rather than the Titans. Robert Lui issue along with Moltzen needs resolution and it means the Tigers could be without a half back for 2012.

Cronulla's push to sign Todd Carney stalls as St George Illawarra launch late bid

http://resources0.news.com.au/images/2011/10/23/1226174/166056-todd-carney.jpg
Formidable combination ... Todd Carney could fill a Red V jersey alongside Jamie Soward. Source: Sam Ruttyn / News Limited

St George Illawarra have made a last-ditch play to lure Todd Carney to Wollongong next season as the Tim Moltzen saga continues to infuriate the Dragons.

After he was expected to ink a two-year deal with Cronulla (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/nrl-premiership/teams/sharks) on Saturday, it is understood Carney (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/player?id=108786&name=todd-carney&team=55013)'s move to the Shire has stalled due to a late bid from the 2010 premiers.

In a bizarre twist, it is the ongoing Moltzen contract wrangle with Wests Tigers (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/nrl-premiership/teams/tigers) which has forced the Dragons (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/nrl-premiership/teams/dragons) to try to recruit Carney.

And they aren't the only club making a last-minute pitch to sign the sacked Sydney Roosters five-eighth.

North Queensland are also clouding Carney's anticipated move to the Sharks.

Family will play a role in Carney's final decision, with his mum Leanne due to arrive in Sydney today to discuss her son's next move.

Whichever club signs Carney, NRL chief executive David Gallop has again re-inforced the need for the 2010 Dally M Medallist to take control of his life off the field.

"I've certainly indicated to at least one club, and probably said publicly, that I would want to sit down and talk to him," Gallop said.

"I met up with him a few weeks ago and said to him that I want him to get to 32 or 33 years of age and people to just be talking about his footy, not what he does off the field.

"And if he does find another club, then he needs to be able to tell us that he's going to be able to stay out of the spotlight off the field."

If St George Illawarra succeed in luring Carney to Wollongong, the next question would be where does he fit into the club's playmaking puzzle.

Captain Ben Hornby, Jamie Soward and Chase Stanley are all contracted for next season.

Halfback or fullback would appear the most likely option, with NSW Origin five-eighth Soward expected to remain in the No 6 jersey.

Cronulla have always been in the box seat to land Carney's signature and are confident of holding off the late bid by the Dragons.

Their biggest trump card has been captain Paul Gallen (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/player?id=100240&name=paul-gallen&team=55006), who is managed by David Riolo - the same person who looks after Carney.

For the last month, Carney has told those close to him about the appeal of signing with the Sharks and living in the Shire.

If Cronulla can secure Carney on a two-year deal, coach Shane Flanagan will have managed to assemble a strong roster while still having one arm tied behind his back.

Given the lack of resources and administration at Cronulla, Flanagan and football manager Darren Mooney have done an outstanding job.

The final part of the Carney puzzle will hinge on the actions of the star five-eighth.

If he wants to truly redeem himself, he has the footballing talent to do so.

Off the field, his track record's not as flash.

Ultimately, this is where he will be judged.

Good decision by the Dragons. You never want a guy who doesn't really want to be there.

Having said that, I believe that there should be some kind of action taken over these incidents - perhaps fine the agent or suspend the player for a few rounds?

Sydney Hacker
4th November 2011, 07:32 PM
I thought I read somewhere that the Dragons were still planning on taking the Tigers to court over the issue, they have just agreed not to register his contract.

I would suspect it will basically involve the Tigers paying some sort of compensation to the dragoons.

Grunt

Not good that if had to go to the Dragons that his shoulder would require surgery but now he is staying at the Tiger, thier CEo comes out and says it will be managed like last year without surgery. Hmm.

Not sure what laws the Dragons will be able to be compensated under, but am sure we have some wannabe lawyers here that will know.

Grunt

Think the Agent is the real problem, signing the contract with St George before the release signed. But the Tigers are just as bad, tell him to look else where and when it is announce he is going to the Dragons they have a hissy fit that it should not have been announced until later. They then don't file the release to the NRL. Lui then get in trouble and they need Moultzen so the situation changes somewhat.

'Won' is past tense. My post is about what is happening now. If you don't think the club has fallen apart since winning the premiership then I don't know what would have to happen for you to think the club has imploded.

And as for a 2nd team concept, it depends how much you want to get carried away with it all.

Not falling apart at all

Des Hasler's reign at Manly appears to be over with the two-time NRL premiership-winning coach stood down and ordered to front the Sea Eagles board over alleged breaches of contract.

The announcement follows a marathon seven-hour meeting of the Manley board to discuss Hasler's future at the Northern Peninsula club.

"The Manly Warringah board have met this evening and are of the opinion that there have been serious breaches of contract by coach Des Hasler," club chairman Scott Penn said.

"The board has invited Des to explain his actions and in the meantime he has been stood down."
Penn refused to elaborate on the breaches of contract until Hasler fronts board to explain his actions.

Asked whether it was to do with Hasler attempting to take players with him to Canterbury in 2013, Penn replied, "I'll leave that up to you."

Coach to be sacked
Infighting about alot of issues at board level
is being fought in public and not hte boardroom
Players have issues with admin
Club owners not liking one another and looking to buy each other out.
Key coaching staff leaving and I mean other than Hasler

These are just some of the issues that have been made public

matty
10th November 2011, 07:25 AM
Perry, you're obviously a passionate Manly supporter but what the Telegraph says mid season, the winning culture at Manly, or the dirty supporter base at the dogs has nothing to do with the fact Manly is falling apart. They'll bounce back but the board has a lot to answer for. A fish stinks from the head down.

As for the second team concept, would you prefer it if I said I had a real 'soft spot' for Manly? Lighten up. I don't see the issue with me standing on the hill at Brooky singing Eagle Rock. I've gone for the dogs all my life out of loyalty and following them as a kid through the glorious 80's and through a lot of crap on the 00's. I can't do much about their inbred supporter base, although in a previous life I would have locked up dozens of the oxygen thieves.

Here's some of his profile posted today on the Rooster's website.

"Arthur Beetson was inducted into the Roosters Hall of Fame in 2010.Player number 615 for the Sydney Roosters, Artie is one of rugby league’s seven immortals is still referred to as the best prop Australia has ever seen.
Arthur played 131 games for Easts between 1971 and 1978, captaining the 1974 and 1975 premiership winning teams, and coached the club between 1985 and 1988, earning the ‘Coach of the Year’ award in 1987.
Beetson then used his incredible gift of understanding what it took to be an elite rugby league player to recruit some of the best young players in the country as the Sydney Roosters Recruitment Officer, a position he held until 2008.
In 2003 he was inducted into the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame. In 2008, in rugby league’s Centenary year, Beetson was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal, for the best player on the field, for the 1974 Grand Final, as well as being named in rugby league’s Team of the Century, QLD’s Team of the Century and the Indigenous Team of the Century."

Yep, he actually started at Balmain, but that was before my time.
Finished his career at Parra. Hit the line hard and had simply amazing speed for a big guy. Could have 4 players hanging off of him and offload with ease.
