If it's still there later tonight I will take it. Just need to check something first. I'll have to be in the opposite group to Bruce though, as he's never played anywhere near his handicap when I've been in the same group (not that I can remember anyway) :)

Ladies and Gentlemen

Groups have been booked for 8:28am and 8:36am.

Should be a fun day and I hope that we will see at least some sledging and build up between now and then.

For those who arent regularly at this course, Spring Valley is in very good nick at the moment. Greens are firm but not ridiculous, quick but not stupid, and rolling very true.

As of a week and a half ago anyway.

Have a great time boys and girls!

Johnny boy - aka John - will take the spot. I've told him he has to barrack for me otherwise he walks home!!!
Bring it on brucey boy. Bring it on !!!

Don't worry about that Johnny - If you put a solid day barracking for Bruce then I will happily drive you home.

So what would TAB SPORTSBET have the odds at for the epic final ???

I would say

BRUCE - $1.70
REENY - $3.10

Thoughts ? haha

At those odds, Mint, put me down for $10K on Bruce, and $6K on Reeny.

Having played with both over the last month and a bit, I'd say closer to Renni $1.95 and Bruce $2.10

Hard for me to make a guaranteed profit there, Chappy.

$1100 on Reeny, $1020 on Bruce.

I've spent my $3 already.

So Brucey Boy - are you scared yet!!!

Firey

Depends upon a couple of things:
Which matchplay index is used
Whether par is ignored
Not only is there a three stroke par difference between the Men's and Ladies course par at SV, but the matchplay index for both is completely different.

IMHO the final should therefore be played using the International Standard Matchplay Index with par ignored and holes simply decided by the number of strokes taken by each player.

If Bruce has to play Men's par against the Ladies index then he will get smashed.

andigold
27th October 2011, 01:02 PM
It's the handicap that's the main issue Firey. If the course rating of the ladies tees is 3 strokes more than the men's course rating then they are added to the handicap. so if both Reenie & Bruce have a Hcp of 14, then the extra shots are added to Reenies Hcp so she will get 3 shots. It will have to be determined on the day which tees are in use and what the respective course ratings are. If we are playing the blue course for men then she will get only the 1 shot, white course she will get 3.

Firey
27th October 2011, 01:13 PM
Assuming that handicaps are adjusted for the course rating of the day and strokes/shots then remain to be given by one player to another, which index would be used given that the Men's and the Ladies are different?

andigold
27th October 2011, 02:46 PM
I think the international standard index is probably the fairest way, if that's not acceptable to either participant then if Reenie is to receive strokes she takes them as per the ladies index and if Bruce is to receive strokes he takes them according to the mens index. Rule 9-3 says in part

The committee in charge of the competition is permitted to assign a custom order. If so, it must publish a "stroke allocation table" indicating the order of holes at which handicap strokes are to be given or received. For example, while the score card may assign holes 3, 13, and 8 as the first, second, and third stroke holes, the committee may choose to designate 4, 12, and 7 instead. ("The Rules of Golf," Rule 33-4).
In mixed competitions where players play their own ball and where allocations are different for men and women, the players receive strokes based on their respective stroke allocations.

Flowergirl
27th October 2011, 03:08 PM
That's what we have always done in the past. Easy. :)

Bruce
27th October 2011, 05:06 PM
Is that another way of saying "net score for the hole vs par"?

Firey
28th October 2011, 09:25 AM
I would not have thought so Bruce.

Par is not relevant in matchplay.

Bruce
28th October 2011, 10:04 AM
So how else does one interpret the bolded bit from Andi?

LarryLong
28th October 2011, 10:07 AM
My interpretation is that it's all too hard and FlowerGirl just gets to tell you who won the hole after she putts out.

andigold
28th October 2011, 10:30 AM
So how else does one interpret the bolded bit from Andi?

The ladies course at spring valley has a course rating of 74, this is the only rating for the ladies. The men have 2 different ratings, 73 for the blue course and 71 for the white course. As the ladies course is rated harder the extra shots are added to her handicap.

If she is playing off 14 then she will play you off 17 on the white course and 15 off the blue. After that it's just where the shots are taken.

Firey

Too easy.

Andi has the second group booked and golfing tradition dictates that the leaders/finalists are in the last group.

this is starting to look like a good matchplay final at spring valley with all elements around wind the rain and then the challenge of the 2 competitors

my money is going on the golf of the day, i think reenie will match it up with just about any male and give them a good run for the doe..

i think bruce will have to work hard as well if he is to stick neck and neck with reenie...

either way it goes they will be both worthy winners but unfortunately only 1 can come out on top

lets hope it goes to the entire 18

look forward to seeing this match tommorow take place

cheers

That's what I did (except a draw for me obviously) with the 5 wood. Driver not needed here. 9 iron, 2 putt par.

Actually that was from a temporary tee as they were repairing the real tee. That fixed yet?

Way to go Reeny, I knew those odds they put up were way too short for ya!!!!

Flowergirl
30th October 2011, 04:19 PM
Well the weather was pretty hit and miss. One of those jackets on and off three times in the one hole type days.
I had an expensive start to the day - forgot my shoes!! So $149.00 later I get to start playing in th e rain!!

I won the first with a nice up and down. Bruce wins the next two with my completely stuffing it up. Then some wayward shots off the tee from Bruce and me managing to stay on the fairway saw me two up after the 8th. I was ok as long as I kept out of the bunkers which I played appallingly!!
Bruce puts his drive in the bunker on ninth and scraps one into thd rough for his second. I've played a great drive down the middle and a lovely 5 wood leaving a little chip over thd bunker and a putt or two. Andi informs ms I can make the turn at three up. Thanks Andi!! Bruce then pitches to a foot away and I flub it into thd bunker which I don't get out of!!
The skirt hangs on to a one up advantage at the turn.

Both long on the 10th par three. Bruce's chip is short and mine a big long but my bogey beats his double. Back to 2 up.
A chip in birdie from 20 foot will nearly always win thd hole. 3 up.
Bruce puts another seven iron to within six feet and although I make a nice up and down Bruce wins one back with an impressive par.
We then square the next three holes. I figure a square is good enough for now - no need to take risks although either if us could have won if we could have chipped or putted better!!
On 16th I smash a drive and three wood to the front of the green - a short chip and a putt that went in the hole then jumped out was still good enough to give me the win.
Game over.
Thanks Bruce for a great match. Maybe not the best golf from either of us but hey at least we were in the final!!
Just happy that the skirt claims another scalp!!!
Thanks to firey and Andigold for hosting and to Chappy, Ozdevil and darling Kev and Johnny Boy for coming along.
I'll repost this in the matchplay thread.

chappy and john thanks for playing along side a hacker like me.

still cant believe the 5th hole in that so called sandpit area when i hit that ball and instead of going up and forward it went straight down would have scared a few in china that one

All things considered, a pretty good day all round and always happy to host.

Congratulations to Reenie on another title.

Weather wasn't the best (could have been a lot worse though) but it was still good fun to get out and have a bash - I even learned a few new swear words from Chappy.

Managed to tap it around for 34 points, talk a fair bit of crap, have a larf or two and the day was neatly rounded off with a 2005 Star Lane Merlot in the clubhouse.

Oz provided 2 of the more interesting things that I have seen on course this year.

His shot from the sandy wasteland on the 5th. He swung, hit the ball, everyone looked up to see...........nothing. He actually managed to hit it straight down.
On the 10th he pulled his teeshot into the rough wandered down that side to have a look for it and simply disappeared. I wandered over to see his ball sitting up in the rough but no Oz. I called out to see where he was and heard a voice from the middle of the adjoining hedge into which he had climbed in search of his ball.

:)

Based on past experience with Oz, Firey, you're lucky you didn't step in any scat once he disappeared

Thanks for hosting us today Gentlemen. Although you could have done a better job with the weather.

Not a stellar match by any means, Reenie played solid golf that I couldn't match and was a deserved winner. You didn't miss many fairways (certainly less than me) and made every 6-10 footer you looked at and a few good up and downs (all in the same shot on 11).

Well done Flowergirl.

Highlight of the day for me.

Reeny - " Bruce - is my bag in the way of your tee shot? "
