Great round by Scott. Hope he can hold it together for the win.

This stuff should be given back page coverage in the newspapers instead of drivel about a some footballer's latest hamstring injury.

Scott hit a few speed humps with +4 today and back to T10. Badds had a scorcher and is tied for the lead. Day lurks still at T3.

They can't seem to put consecutive good rounds together. Perhaps Day is the one most likely?

Just watching the 3rd round replay and Bubba's 9 on the 16th, oh dear! He shot a 64 in the 2nd round and followed that up by a 79 in the 3rd!

Aussies don't really seem to handle the weekend pressure too well do they, Scott in particular the last couple of months has put himself into great positions before the weekend starts only to fall back with one or two bad rounds.

Each to their own. I seriously couldn't get excited about multi-millionaires Woods, Singh and Furyk winning the 10 mil. Sort of like Bill gates winning Lotto. Haas is a bit different I guess so yeah, good on him. That save out of the water was outstanding.

I was very surprised just how many of them were using the longer putter.
Off the top of my head I saw Haas, Lefty, Scott, Kucher, Howell, Bradley, & Simpson using one.
It obviously works for some.

So can some one please tell me how this thing is supposed to be won without winning the final ****ing tournament?

Maybe I've got things a little wrong here but shouldn't a golf playoff reward the best performer over the 4 rounds and not whoever wins the final tournament? (Seeing as tournaments are bloody hard to win)

So the guy sitting in 4th finishes T3rd and loses to a guy sitting in 25th because he won the last one? What absolute ****ing bullshit.

I know that playoffs are supposed to be geared towards a dramatic finale and a "final game" but lets look at something here:

After the regular season, heading into the playoffs Luke Donald sits in 4th, Bill Haas sits 15th.

Round 1 of playoffs, Donald ties for 18th, Haas for 24th.
Round 2, Donald is T3rd, Haas is T61st.
Round 3, Donald is outright 4th, Haas T16th
Round 4, Donald is T3rd , Haas wins to take Cup.

So Donald is in front of Haas before playoffs, accrues 28 positional points (18 + 3 + 4 +3) while Haas accrues 102 positional points (24 + 61 + 16+ 1) and still loses.
What a joke. No more for me thanks.

Aint it just crap Webb Simpson went in with 2500 pts. Hass with 260pts Hass picked up 2500 pts for the win . Simpson 245pts fot 22 place , 2 shots less in 4 days would have got him 256pts, and Simpson would have beaten Hass by 8 points and 10 million + would be his . 500 points for a win all year (correct if wrong please) but 2500 in last gasp ?????????

mike

It's a stupid concept that nobody understands and gives a ridiculously inflated reward to someone that happens to have a hot month.

A couple of years ago Geoff Ogilvy was being interviewed after a 2nd place finish. The interviewer went on with the usual crappy questions and finished by saying to Geoff, "... and best of all this 2nd place finish gives you 300 Fedex points."

Geoff said, completely deadpan, "That's exciting"

F**king comedy gold.

It's targetted at the general American sports watcher, who have been brought up on the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. 'a win in the final game to take home the trophy'.

And traditional matchplay is not good for getting the corporate dollars or an audience.

It is also a knee-jerk reaction to Vijay winning the first two tournaments (of four) a couple of years ago, and making the last two events 'dead rubbers'.

Even with the convoluted formulae ⇒ Simple explanation ⇒ Simpson tanked & Haas won. Simpson didn't deserve to win IMO.

I think it was more because Tigger could sit out the 1st one and still have a healthy lead. The big point bonus for the last event
was to make it technically possible for anyone in the field to snatch the 10 mill.

+1 on the execution of the shot from the water but I was just as impressed with him holing the par putt on the 1st playoff hole (took some nerve). Nevertheless I'm with everyone else on the fact that the Fedex points system is an absolute joke.

Agreed. He has stayed in the hunt coming down the stretch in majors and his finish at the Tour Championship looked far worse in the end because he finished with the bogey on 18 because he had to be aggressive and try to make the birdie putt to give himself a chance. Had he not made bogey on 17 and went to 18 with a different mindset he would have at least finished at -7 and even for the round. I realise it seemed like he was thereabouts in almost every tourney this year and finished without a trophy but he hardly threw them away either... I have no doubt 2011 is just the very start of a successful career.

Probably a bit early to call Day a choker, but over the last couple of years he has struggled to get the job done on Sunday's. Even the win he had he struggled home.
