Ok, well I sourced some R9 irons locally for a decent price but I am sure they are fakes. The eBay user had 100% positive feedback and he purchases a lot of gear from 3Balls and Global Golf so I thought that he would be legit. He didn't get these irons from either of those sites. The guy was a really nice bloke and has agreed to refund my money in the morning which takes the pain away.

I thought I'd upload some pics and go through the tell tale signs hoping to get everyone's objective opinion.

The signs;

1. The shafts are True Temper with no shaft bands and no flex indicated. It is my understanding that R9 Irons only ship with KBS 90's or Motore F1 graphite?!

2. There is glue around the ferrules and the ferrule on the 5 iron has slipped indicating shoddy workmanship.

3. The ferrules are shorter than normal and do not have the white line through them.

4. The grips have a pattern all over them and I believe that R9 irons only ship with the plain black Taylormade grip!? They also smell like cheap rubber.

5. The irons feel very top heavy and the shafts extremely light.

Yep, he got them off thegolfstorm, thegolfhabit or one like that that sells 2nd TM gear with non standard shafts.

I assume there is a serial somewhere on the 7 iron or one of them ? Legit.

My theory is that they clear heads that might be ex-demo's, case in point here : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Taylor-Made-MC-Forged-Tour-Preferred-Irons-3-9-w-Stl-R-/250885671151?pt=Golf_Clubs&hash=item3a69f388ef or here http://www.ebay.com/itm/TaylorMade-2-0-Burner-Iron-Set-4-9-PW-AW-Rifle-Firm-/170691987517?pt=Golf_Clubs&hash=item27be09083d

Yep, almost guaranteed. Ask him which seller he bought them off in the US, he may tell you and you'll be able to look at their current listings.

Gws sports or something in the USA. You know it?

I also forgot to mention that the 5 iron grip is missaligned fairly badly. If they are real I'm happy because I flushed them all arvo. Never hit a 4 iron as well.

They look real to me.

Boiling water for the ferrule, replace the grip. Go get them back.

I still have them here..... I may have to make an apologetic phone call though. Have you heard of GWS sports?

The poor guy' I shouldn't have jumped the gun!

Even if they are fake, if you flushed em keep em!!!

Then when the honeymoon period is over (oh yes it always ends) you can move them on to some sucker.

Lol I'd never sell fakes, I loath it. And its CWS, not GWS. Fingers crossed.

Unless they turn out fake, I've already made the apology :)

I agree they are most probably legit. Every chance they have been re-shafted, perhaps roughly, outside of the original maker. That would explain the issues you describe.

you've already proved you aren't good enough to tell whether they are or not, so it shouldn't matter ;)

These went great today. I couldn't possibly have been swinging any worse but still managed to shoot under my handicap. Getting a extra 10 meters out of my short irons and 12-15 meters out of the long irons. My front nine was; quad, triple, triple, bird, par, bird, par, par, par. Back nine was similar.

Happy customer though.... glad I'm not trying to be a blade weilding hero anymore :)

Were they still actually a bargain with all the shoddy work and non factory components? I'm guessing so due to the great performance.

I guess the performance renders a value for money outcome. I was surprised at them not having kbs shafts but I loved the feel today so I guess its meant to be.

Ive only hit kbs' once in a set of cally xtours and I found they launched stupidly high but was willing to give them another go.... Maybe next time. was getting my 5 iron out there 185 today which is a mile longer than anything else ive ever hit.
