View Full Version : Golflink - Changes from the 19th September 2011

Ned
10th September 2011, 03:14 PM
Details of GOLF Link Downtime
The two key upcoming dates/times are: 1.00pm (AEST) on Monday 19 September 2011

• GOLF Link goes offline (ie you will NOT be able to PROCESS any competitions through GOLF Link).

• The GOLF Link public website (ie www.golflink.com.au (http://www.golflink.com.au)) will also be unavailable. 11.00am (AEST) on Wednesday 21 September 2011 – Tier 1 Clubs

• The Four Priority Changes to the GA Handicap System come into effect. GOLF Link is once again operational (ie you will again be able to process competitions through
GOLF Link).

• GOLF Link clubs will not need to do anything to instigate the process of recalculating all handicaps in accordance with the changed regulations. GOLF Link will do everything for you. All GA Handicaps stored on GOLF Link will automatically be recalculated in accordance with the changed regulations and will be ready for use.

Status of Handicaps During Period When GOLF Link is Offline (ie from 1.00pm (AEST) on Monday 19 September until 11.00am (AEST) on Wednesday 21 September)

• From 1.00pm (AEST) on Monday 19 September until 11.00am (AEST) on Wednesday 21 September, the official GA Handicap for a player will be the handicap displayed by GOLF Link at 12.59pm (AEST) on Monday 19 September.

• It may be that some players will play in competitions on Tuesday 20 September or early on Wednesday 21 September AFTER also having returned a score during the period GOLF Link is offline. In situations such as this, GA recommends that players be required to play off the handicap displayed by GOLF Link at 12.59pm (AEST) on
Monday 19 September. (Note: The Committee in charge of a competition MAY require a player to play off the figure their new handicap would be, even if their handicap is yet to be officially adjusted. (Until 11.00am (AEST) on Wednesday 21 September, any manual re-calculations of this type will be in accordance with the OLD regulations.) A Committee in charge of a competition may do this for all affected competitors in the competition or only select competitors.)

• If a club is conducting a competition on Wednesday 21 September and is unable to check the new handicaps of players prior to the commencement of the competition, it may:
œ Require everyone to play in the competition off their old handicap; or œ Have everyone go out and play and then advise them of their handicaps AFTER the round. This option will be easier to administer for Stroke competitions than it will for Stableford or Par competitions.

• Competitions played during the period GOLF Link is offline will need to be processed through GOLF Link once it is back on-line. (It is important that the value listed in the ‘Played Off’ box on the score entry screen is the handicap the player actually played off in that competition. Clubs should be particularly careful to check the values in this column in the period immediately following 21 September.)

Details of the Four Priority Changes:

The following Four Priority Changes to the GA Handicap System will come into effect on Wednesday 21 September:

1. Alter ‘Best 10 of 20’ to ‘Best 8 of 20’.
2. Change the Multiplier from 0.96 to 0.93.
3. Introduce an Anchor which will prevent a player’s handicap from increasing any
more than 4 strokes beyond their best exact handicap from the previous 12-month rolling period.
4. GOLF Link will cap the score that goes into a player’s handicap record at no more than the following amount over the course rating: • 50-women • 40-men

FAQs
• From 21 September 2011, my handicap calculation will be based on the best 8 of my most recent 20 scores. Do I still divide the total by 10 before multiplying by the new figure of 0.93? No, you will need to divide the total by 8.

• When the Anchor comes into effect on 21 September 2011, can my Anchor
handicap come from before 21 September 2011? Yes, on 21 September 2011, a player’s Anchor handicap will be the best exact handicap they have achieved in the period between 21 September 2010 and 21 September 2011.

• What if I’m coming back from an injury or my handicap clearly won’t be sufficient for some other reason? As has always been the case, the club should manually adjust your handicap – when your club enters your new handicap into GOLF Link, it will over-ride the old Anchor. Clubs are encouraged to make use of this regulation when needed.

How long is this change going to last before they start ****ing with it again?

AndyP
10th September 2011, 05:09 PM
A few months before they start thinking about it, then they will consult the clubs, ignore the clubs, then take 10 months to implement whatever reactive change they come up with.

AndyP

A new undeserved low (8.1) for me too, from this dumb new reactive system. I guess I'm within reach of 7 now, but there's not as much incentive when I know that the anchor would then go to 11. When I was working I was typically off the 10-12 area, so I may very well head out to that area again.

I guess GA don't take these sorts of realistic situations into account, although someone told me the other day that the handicapper can use their discretion on the anchor. Is this true?

This system sounds like crap. I think it's made it harder for A graders and even B graders.

Why don't they use 'best 10' for A graders, 'best 8' for B graders, 'best 6' for C graders.

How do you think that would go when someone goes out a shot and moves grades? Might be a slight problem.

The best solution is to not play at a club unless they play in grades.

When will GOLF Link re-commence displaying my individual rounds? We're expecting an unusually large amount of traffic on the golflink.com.au website in the first few days after the launch of the changes to the handicap calculation method.
In order to ensure that GOLF Link can service all golfers who wish to lookup their new handicap, we're temporarily not displaying full handicap histories.
GOLF Link will monitor the traffic and resume full display of each player's handicap history as soon as possible.

This is dumb.....surely most of the traffic now is because people are checking to see if their full handicap histories have come back up.

Just do it already!

So that a bloke like me playing off 2 thats only broken par once in his last 73 rounds (yes, you did read that right! rubin

Surely because everything is rounded .11625 becomes .1 anyway?

it would do, but like any calculation, you round the result, not the originating factors.

AndyP
28th September 2011, 01:10 PM
Here's an example:
Your handicap is 8.6, and you improve the worst round of your best 8 by one shot. Your new handicap will be 8.4, not 8.5.

If your handicap is 8.6, then your 8 best rounds add up to 74, and the exact handicap is 8.6025 (74*0.93/8).
If you improve by one to make the 8 round total 73, the exact handicap becomes 8.48625. They drop all decimals off after the tenths, so 8.4 is the new handicap.

I'm trying to put together an updated version of my Nuffcap or 'theoretical' golflink handicap into MS excell (Veefore gave me this template a few months back).

I've modified it to incorporate the major changes to golflink, including averages now for the best 8 differentials of the last 20 rounds, as well as multiplying this average differential by 0.93 (formerly 0.96).

But need to find out the new ratings for the following courses. Could someone of expertise in this area pls send me a speal for the following courses, thanks.

Updated ACR's required:

Hartfield CC (whites and blues)
The Links Kennedy Bay (whites, blues, blacks)
Mandurah Country Club (blues)
The Vines Resort and Country Club (blues)
Wembley Public Golf Course (men)
Chequers Country Club (men)
Carramar Public Golf Course (men)

Yep sure does, Veefore and Veeman would also know.

The white makers rated either 71 or 72 and the blues rated 73 prior to the latest round of changes.

I'm suspecting now that some clubs (particular the flatter tracks) have reduced their ratings by about 1 shot.

The Vines Lakes Course is now 72 (formerly 73).

The slope rating will probably push them back up anyway when it comes in .
