View Full Version : Kpac vs Iain

Righto, let's try and get this done. I'm off next week, if we don't play in a comp, I'd like to keep Wednesday free so I can play at Reddy bay. Otherwise I'm good from Monday 29th.

Ok, 1st attempt at Parkwood, all square.

2nd attempt, Sun 18th at Robina Woods.

It's OK mate, after we have finished with him up here, he may never want to play golf again !!

Iain
22nd August 2011, 03:11 PM
Should there be no homo after that?

Probably not, coming from Bob...

kpac
23rd August 2011, 07:04 AM
sun 28th
Sat 3rd
Sun 4th (would have to be gold coast area)
Sun 11th

I'm in victoria between sun4th night and sat 10th morn unfortunately.

Midweek I will struggle next week, as I'm on hols this week. But could do a very early one on th GC if you prefer midweek?
6:30ish would be do-able.. But I'd need to be on the GC so I could get back quick that's all..

Any of those times/days suit?

Iain
23rd August 2011, 07:11 AM
The 28th would have to be late game. As I'm goin out the night before, Sat the 3rd would be ok? I go to Bali on the 4th-14th.

Otherwise an early game next would be ok.

Maybe plan for Sun arvo, then if we finish all square we can play the replay during the week?

kpac
23rd August 2011, 09:47 AM
sunday arvo looks like a good option mate. carbrook? Or somewhere south side?

Iain
23rd August 2011, 09:51 AM
Southside would be better. Carbrook sounds good to me?

kpac
23rd August 2011, 10:32 AM
Righto, try carbrook. I've only got mobile/intermittent contact, so if you have a chance to contact the club, see if we can get a spot...
Cheers.

Iain
23rd August 2011, 10:34 AM
Yep, will do in a bit.

Anyone else keen?

Iain
24th August 2011, 07:23 AM
4ball Ambrose at Carbrook.

Next option?

Daves

4ball Ambrose at Carbrook.

Next option?

There would also be social tee slots available I would think. Pretty sure they have an $18 walking deal on.

Iain
24th August 2011, 07:37 AM
Yeah. I'll check. I just can't go to early, as I'm goin out the night before. So I'll see if there's slots after the comp available?

Iain
24th August 2011, 07:54 AM
After 1, we can just rock up. $29 for 18 holes I was told.

Jarro
24th August 2011, 07:55 AM
Plenty of spots available at Nudgee if you guys wanna travel that far

Iain
24th August 2011, 07:56 AM
I don't mind, Kpac has to travel further than me.

kpac
24th August 2011, 09:30 AM
carbrook is fine with me.
Helensvale has spots aswell for the same time. I'm easy. Playing outside the comp is good with me.
Cheers

kpac
25th August 2011, 04:31 PM
iain, what's your preference mate?
Carbrook or Helensvale. Bit cheaper a Helensvale otherwise they're much of the same.

Iain
25th August 2011, 04:39 PM
Go helensvale then if it's a bit cheaper? Have you played it much?

Hux
25th August 2011, 07:50 PM

It's his second home :-)

I can't take sides in this game. Good luck to both of you!

Iain

Then he won't mind giving me tips.

Which will then get him DQ'd...

AndyP
25th August 2011, 08:21 PM
Only loss of hole, and you'd need a few of those if it starts heading the way of last year's semi. :p

Iain
25th August 2011, 08:23 PM
Shuddup you....

So, about 1 at Helensvale?? Do you need to book it?

AndyP
25th August 2011, 08:28 PM
I would have loved to come down for a hit to see you guys slug it out, and I haven't played at Helensvale before, but I'm playing with Oxy and the club president at Wally Park in the morning. Hopefully you get a couple of OZgolf spectators and have a good match.

Iain

How's helensvale hold up to rain?

bit like nudgee, but swampier.

jaybam
27th August 2011, 05:14 PM
Could be a slop fest tomorrow lol

timah!
27th August 2011, 05:39 PM
If interested, a mate and I are the last group at Palm Meadows (12.40ish). ATM we're a two, so there is that option if needed...

kpac

How's helensvale hold up to rain?

Not well to be honest. I'll call in the am and let you know what the verdict is.
1pm is organised currently, i'll post here early tomorrow to confirm what it's like.

kpac

Go away, i'd have played most tracks in brisbane more!
I can recall maybe 5 rounds i've played there... hardly 'back of my hand' sort of stuff.

kpac
28th August 2011, 07:20 AM
Helensvale is open if you still want to do it there. But i've been advised that it's "very very wet".
Carbrook also said they're very wet, and walking only (not that that is an issue)
The alternatives are Palm Meadows with Timmah or even Parkwood, which handles the rain a little better.
Parkwood would be a freebie, but can't get on till 2pm. Palm Meadows (how much timmah?) i's a little further for you to drive...

I'll slug it out at helensvale if you want to stick with it, or let me know and it can call Parkwood and get a slot there.

Iain
28th August 2011, 07:30 AM
I'd rather not play in slop. And unless pam meadows is super cheap, parkwood will be ok.

markTHEblake
28th August 2011, 07:51 AM
We played club championships at Helensvale yesterday.....but we did suspend play at 130 as one of the greens was declared unplayable even though it was just around the hole.

Then about 3 hours later the 1st 3rd went under. Dont know if it can recovet in just one day I suspect we might put the old first into play again ( we have 19 holes)

kpac
28th August 2011, 09:48 AM
Parkwood is booked in. But for a few of the low areas the course should be fine. It'll be wet, but nothing like the vale.

jaybam
28th August 2011, 09:56 AM
Never played parkwood. Looking at some pics it looks like a nice track. Hope the weather holds off for you boys. Enjoy

Jarro
28th August 2011, 09:57 AM
Good luck gents .... hope you find a dry track somewhere ;)

Iain
28th August 2011, 06:14 PM
All square. Thanks for the round Kent, look forward to the rematch.

I'm out to dinner atm. Will do a rundown later if Kpac hasn't already.

AndyP

FFS, Iain. You are the new tie master.

Iain

Iain

It was dark when we playing the 18th. Stupidly slow.

markTHEblake
28th August 2011, 06:43 PM
Funny you mention slow. I have being hearing that about Parkwood. No disrespect to the new owner but the word is that they are putting as much green fee traffic on the course as they can.

A guy that we were behind for most of the day was saying (after we joined him on 15) not long ago he played 18 holes in 7.5hrs.

kpac
28th August 2011, 08:21 PM
Great comeback by Iain.
Down 4 with 5 to go he nutted consecutive birdies to play himself back into it.
I had a putt on 17 and 18 to win, and missed them both (under 6ft) so it was there to win....

Great game though mate!! and excellent comeback.

kpac

Quick rundown:

Kpac swiftly 2 down after 2, with a couple of balls in the drink to boot.
Kpac wins the 4th and 5th to square match.
Iain hits back on the 6th only for Kpac to win the 7th and 8th.

At the turn Kpac 1up

Kpac wins 10th 11th 12th to be 4 up with 6 left.
Iain wins 13th with a par
Iain wins the 15th with a birdie
Iain wins the 16th with a birdie
Kpac squares the 17th to be 1 up with 1 left.

In failing light, my 2nd shot on the par 5 18th, cannot be found, even though it was a short iron layup, presumably it has taken a bounce off the path into the soup. Iain wins the hole

Result - All square.

Scores.
Iain Gross 84 Nett 74
Kpac Gross 87 Nett 75
Was a really good match - Iain gave a few strokes away on the 8th hole - otherwise he'd have shot a sub 80 round.

You was robbed man.

kpac

I wish...
Even after the drop i had a 5ft putt to square the hole. And i missed a 6ft putt on the 17th, which would have saved me even worrying about the 18th.
I lost it!

4 down with 5 to go...sounds like a gag of epic proportions.
That could be a new banner.

I'll see you in the next round to sort this tiff out.......
...
..
.
Oh, no it wont ;)

kpac

Your hanging your hat on a competition that has had half the field pull out....little cred my red headed fwend.

Did you pull out?

Iain

Get a room you two!!

You enjoyed it as much as I did too.

kpac

Iain

Where? And when? I can host at Redland Bay if you want?

kpac
15th September 2011, 09:38 PM
never played there, but would still be keen... What time can you get us on, and $$?
Otherwise i can see if shavey can get us a couple of spots with him at lakelands...
else there's carbrook/windaroo/helensvale all around the $30 where we should be able to get out before midday.
Not going to put myself through parkwood again, too slow!

Iain

Lakeland's sounds good to me.

Try not to think about the shanks and 13 (?) points, Iain.

kpac
16th September 2011, 12:00 PM
Iain, will sms, but how's Robina Woods suit?? Lakelands time slots are a little tighter, and i have't play RW for a while....

Iain
16th September 2011, 05:47 PM
Ok, sorted.

What's the plan if we have another draw? Can we go back down 1? Putting comp or something like that?

AndyP
16th September 2011, 05:48 PM
Plan an afternoon round.

Iain
18th September 2011, 03:35 PM
Kpac wins 6&5.

Well played Kent. I had some good holes, but too much trouble off the tee for me. Plus Kpac didn't get into much trouble at all.

shavey
18th September 2011, 03:39 PM
The only trouble was the handicap police! KPac played well all day and if the anchor wasn't thrown, 40 points was on the cards.

I could say see above but I think its focus...The Ginger Ninja focusses well when the money is at stake but lets it slide once the match is done.....that or the HCP handbrake :-)

oh righto you lot - i can spray it with the best of you once i get going.

Thanks for the game/games iain. Was a good day, and some good golf sprinkled across the group.
Cheers to the shave for organising, and shaun for the company. Cracking day for golf out there.

Check Golflink if you want to see some ugly stuff....4 rounds in the 90's followed by 109 off the bat followed by 31pts (that was an improvement at least).....I didn't think I could still play that bad.

I have been ready to sell the bats and buy another bike - but then I would have no reason to be here :-)
