View Full Version : Fairway woods

I'm experimenting with my clubs at the moment and I'm thinking of getting a fairway wood of some description, probably with an eye to whacking in a Nunchuk in the long run. I'm thinking slightly higher loft, like a 4 wood to span the distance between my driver and 20* hybrid. Anyone tried the following:
Ping Rapture V1 5 wood 17*
Ping Rapture V2 3 wood 16*
R9 4 Wood 17*
I've also got my brother on the lookout for a PRGR Egg Spoon 17* (latest version) but thats not likely to happen soon.

Anyone tried these? Thoughts on using one with a Nunchuk?

R9 4W. Virge swears by the nunchuk in it too. Mine has an IRod.

Got a TM 200 16.5* that you can stick your shaft in and see if this the way you want to go. You can have the head for trials.

Thanks for the offer Chris, but I'll stick to something slightly more recent, I'm all about the hi tech!

Why not just get a standard 15* 3 wood ?

I mean, where are you going to be using this new wood ? Off the tee on short par 4's ?

You're like myself in the fact that we'll never be able to reach par 5's in two hits ....so why bother trying ?

Do what i did mate ... ditch the 4 wood idea ... get a 3 wood that you can hit off the tee, and keep laying up on the par 5's with your hybrids ..... you hit them very well as they are already.

I ditched the 3W for a 4W for more loft, hit it off the tee and sometimes off the ground. Depends on what you are looking for.

Yep, you'll find Ping G10 & G15 three woods have a 15.5 degree option. Get used to hitting that well & you'll probably dump your driver.
