View Full Version : Grunt V Peppas - The Grange 30th August

The time has come and Peppas and I have a tentative date set for our Match-play
It is back on!
Where: The Grange
When: Friday 23rd July 10:00 Tuesday 30th August

Should be an epic hack, me, the 21 marker playing like a 50 marker with spots of low teens in there game somewhere, against Peppas the unknown off 35.
Me giving him 14 shots could be interesting.

If Jimandr get his RDO he will be witness to this epic Hackfest, could be interesting with wipes halving holes :)

What time are you playing?

Peppas
18th July 2011, 09:01 AM
HA, I played Coffs Hacker in rd 1 and he had to give up something like 20 shots to me!

I'm just hoping the rain holds off on Friday, forecast is for rain all week...

Peppas
18th July 2011, 11:29 AM
hey G-Runt you played Lakeside much?

Grunt
18th July 2011, 11:31 AM

Peppas

Round 2 ding ding. Grunt you could be the first man into the semis :)

Peppas the burgler. Watch out Grunt, he'll play off like 25 on the day. ;)

Peppas
18th July 2011, 12:24 PM
I've never played to 25 so happy days if I do. After my last round I'll be happy to play to my handicap!

Six weeks in LA and you are already introducing your own rules. ;)

I would have thought recent win at CL and being a product reviewer for Golf magazine would be enough to strike fear into a 35 marker.

Have a good game and I predict a few 'eight net sevens' may be winners.

Peppas

Woah recent win @ CL, where we are playing? Peps in deep doo doo :( Especially seeing as I've never played there before!!

Don't worry, that was October.

By April, Grunt made it look like he had never played there before (except for the occasional hallelujah wedge).

Nah, I have a feeling he will bring it on Friday and give me the whipping I deserve :)

Sorry Guys. No vacant spots in the field at Camden Lakeside on Friday. I have found an alternative venue, but I'll communicate that by PM just in case one of the players doesn't want to do it.

Haven't heard from Grunt but I'm happy to give him home course advantage :)

I think that I will call it that :) Got any tips, any local knowledge you can share?

Grunt said he was going to update the opening post and/or title, but he hasn't.

We are playing at Macarthur Grange at 10.00 on Friday 22 July. There is room for another player if someone wants to risk Sydney weather.

Fortunately, it hasn't rained nearly as much in the SouthWest as it did on the coast, so the course should be OK if it doesn't pour tomorrow.

For the benefit of Peppas, Mac Grange is a very quirky golf course where there isn't really a home ground advantage. The only real advice I can give is the standard message that applies to most courses, which is to try to keep the ball on the fairway and minimise big mistakes. You don't really get much of a reward for taking big risks, so playing safe is usually the right play. The par 5's are shortish, downhill and may even be downwind, so they present an opportunity to recover from what appears to be a poor score.

Awesome, thanks Jimandr. Looking forward to it. Hopefully the rain is only light tomorrow... and isn't too bad on Friday!

Looking forward to this. Should be a great ol' hackfest from me :)

I might be able to play but will have to leave it until tomorrow to confirm, all dependent on weather and work.

Grunt

not looking good at the moment. If it is like this tomorrow I will be out. Am battling to get over a cold and the last thing I need is to spend 4 hours in the rain

How's it looking now? Looks to me like the area has only gotten about just under 2cm of rain over the last 3 days. Shell cove looks like its gotten over 10cm!

I just got home from driving to the Northern beaches and back and it poured all the way there and back. As I said I will re assess in the morning and give an update

Mac Grange is not too bad with rain but will more than likely have a few very wet spots where the hills lead all the water to. There may be a river crossing the 18th Fairway if falls have been constant. Will be some mud but it's based on clay so it runs off rather than soaks in. Could be slippery and they could be not having carts. I will ring then right now to get an update on the course.

Grunt
21st July 2011, 02:13 PM
Just spoke to the club, carts are still on the course but they did advise ringing in the morning to confirm.

Price also is $26 with Cart, I think that is almost worth it for Mac Grange. If I am carting I think I will be able to brave the weather. I will ring early tomorrow and post here of the result.

Yep, looks like another 1.5cm has fallen over today. It's pouring here, BoM says about 5.6cm today so far...

Ok, well if its game on I'll be leaving here around 8:30am, so if you blokes who live nearby call it off I'd appreciate if you could let me know before 8:30 :) Thanks, otherwise hopefully see you tomorrow for hackers delight!

Peppas

Oh yeah so we will be carting if we play?

Haven't worn them yet actually, don't want to get them all muddy on their first go :)

Not looking good I have just rung the club and the course has flooded overnight in the areas I suspected it would, water flowing from the dam behind the 17th green and running as a river along the 18th & first fairways.

No Carts, pro actually was talking like he was about to close it fully.

I recommend no golf today, Peppas we shall reschedule this at a later date.

Sydney Hacker I have SMS'd the others guys but did not have your number.

Peppas

It is back on! Grunt V Peppas @ The Grange on Tuesday

I have never had to give 11 shots in Matchplay before and the way I am playing I may need the 11 for myself.

Peppas
27th August 2011, 08:58 AM
Yep I'm off 32 now. Should be fun, usually a pretty full field on Tuesdays there off the whites!

Peppas
27th August 2011, 06:07 PM
Yep and I'll still be off 32 come Tuesday. I should probably be off more the way I've been putting at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peppas
28th August 2011, 03:58 PM
Heard a rumour the greens are getting cored right now at KG... didn't even know it was coring season. We will see on Tuesday.

28th August 2011, 04:13 PM
Oh well, it is coming up to it , not really going to affect my game as lately I have been picking up well before putting. :)

Congrats Peppas.

We need you in the NSW team to take on those ACT Burglars.

Peppas
30th August 2011, 11:23 AM
Cheers for the game Grunt. I think the temp greens played into my favour, I've had many a 3 putt lately and the small temp greens made it a little easier. I actually thought there was going to be an epic comeback on the back 9 after my wipe on the 13th hole and losing 2 balls there. Thanks heaps for coming down for the game too.

Peppas

Ok, sounds like fun. Where's the game at?

Peppas
30th August 2011, 11:55 AM
Oh yeah, and the Bacon, sausage, egg and onion roll afterwards was frigging awesome!

Grunt
30th August 2011, 11:57 AM
Thanks for the game too, was a tough ask for me to give 11 shots but on the whole it was good. I tried the comeback but the headstart was too much. You certainly did talk yourself down on the holes with the creeks. You called it well before and when ever there was a creek your ball found it. :)

Was very happy with my game 41 points (19/22) and I have to say if it were on the full greens I might have gone even better seeing as putting is where I feel I play best.

You wont be out at 32 for too long either. You best play whoever is next quicksmart.

Peppas
30th August 2011, 12:28 PM
Yeah those holes with the creeks get me every time. Though the last par 5 across the creek I didn't lose a ball in the creek so I was happy about that. The hole I didn't give myself an extra shot on.

You were definitely well poised to take advantage, with all those advantageous kicks off trees and not losing balls in the creek. Whenever I hit a tree on those holes it seemed to direct me into the water!

Putting and chipping are definitely my weaknesses like a typical high handicapper so yeah, you would've had an excellent shot at me if it was full greens.
