Guys and Girls of Ozgolf,

Whilst we are yet to have any genuine fraudulent issues in the Pro Shop, there seems to be an alarming amount of fraudulent activity on other sites, including GolfWRX. We thought we might take the time to try and warn you of how it all may work and what to be on the lookout for.

Basically, this is how it happens:
An account is hacked, traditionally through a phishing email.
The hacked account is then used to offer products, via PM, to people that have advertised in a 'wanted' thread.
They send photos that they have found on the internet (not stock photos). They then play the 'can you gift me the purchase price on Paypal so I don't have to pay fees' trick. Once money is gifted, there is no insurance on the sale.
Money gone, goods never sent, account verified as hacked.
Sad buyer.

Here are some things that you should know:

1. Ozgolf will never send an email requesting login details and will never send you to a link other than www.ozgolf.net .
2. It is becoming common practice, on GolfWRX, when posting photos of goods to add a piece of paper with your user name and date and even description in the photos. This is simply good practice.
3. If you choose to use PayPal, NEVER use the gifted money method.

Whilst Ozgolf doesn't take responsibility for transactions in The Pro Shop, we don't want to see any of our members out of pocket.
