View Full Version : Going to higher loft driver and stiffer shaft

for greater accuracy, but without losing any significant distance. I know there will be a slight trade off, but accuracy if of far greater imprtance to me than distance.

Anyone done this? What were the results? I'm thinking of going from 9* to 11.5* or more as an experiment.

I've gone to an extreme example, but I also use a heavier and slightly shorter shaft too. It seems to have worked for me. Haven't lost that much distance.

Done this with fairway and it works a treat. 3 adjustments.
15*-17.5*
43'-43.5*

I've done the opposite.

I've been playing a shorter shaft for a while now, but my driver is now the only club in m bag without an X-Flex.

I find I have learnt to slow the tempo a bit as a result and hit it straighter now. Lost a bit of distance, but I lose most of it when I went to a shorter shaft anyway

I just put together a G10 12 deg with a stiff pl red playing at 44 inches. Got the head hotmelted and it comes in at D2!

Hit it side by side on a launch with my 10.5 rapture v2.

Swing speed went down a touch but smash factor went up. No loss of distance but huge improvement in dispersion.

I went to 10.5*, and have found it be a fairway finder. Still playing at 45" though.

Hey mate,

Grab a shaft about 75-80gr and cut it down to 44-44.5" - just get that swingweight somewhere around D0-D2. You may want to tip it a touch to get rid of the wobble as well.

The main part is the weight... get yourself on video from behind and make sure you stay in your posture on the downswing. (yes... waiting...)

You won't lose any distance and you should flatten out the trajectory... switch between the ProV1 and the ProV1x to tune the flight.

Enjoy

Where'd you get the hotmelting done?

Where'd you get the hotmelting done?

You can do it with a $15 glue gun... it is only there to deaden the sound at impact.

Virge, I went to see Jon this arvo and he has me sorted with those specs. Will see how it goes.

Yep a 70gram shaft will be going in either the G15 or Adams 4G in the near future.

Thinkin about doing the same, looking at getting a 910D2 10.5 and jacking the loft, failing that a 12 degree Rapture V2 or G10 might be next.

Met a guy by the name of Grant who goes under the name of Golfdoctor.

Great guy that really knows his stuff and lives close by.

Well worth a try Gaz, 10.5 might be enough if you hit the ball high. I was hitting a V2 Rapture 10.5 pretty flat and the launch on the 12* is nice and high without being too floaty.

Havn't played a round with it yet but I have been hitting a 380cc Driver at the Range and my distance and accuracy have been a lot better allbeit at 45.5" and D6!

crikey! That must surely be the honeymoon effect? I can understand the distance being better, but surely the accuracy would suffer at that length and head size... But then I don't much about golf stuff.

Well, I picked up the new driver from Jon at Total Performance Golf in Oakleigh. I gave him a Mizuno MX500 head in 11.5 degrees and he fitted it with a Proforce Gold 65 in stiff flex cut to 44.5 inches. I like a lighter feel to my drivers so he weighted it up to D-0 for me.

I hit about 50 balls on the range and it feel terrific. Higher, flatter launch with more carry then I have been getting from lower lofted drivers. And no tail to right on misses. Exactly what I have been looking for.

Accuracy is absolutely vital to my game so I will give this a few comp rounds and see how it goes.

Sounds good Jack, the straightest driver I ever owned was a Cleveland Hibore that was 10.8 degrees with a Proforce V2 cut to 43.5". One of those clubs that you sell and regret it soon after

Played a 10.5 909 D2 with Pro Launch Blue 75X yesty. When I didn't swing like a moron it was very good. Hard to get a gauge on distance though as I wasn't at my home track.

Its odd virge I have had 44-45 inch drivers in the past 4 or 5 years..and I was never a long driver...I used 10.5 for a long time

But I bought that cobra s9-1 pro S 9.5 loft I had that had an accra xc in it that measure 46 1/4 inches

I gained 20 meters...without much loss in accuracy..sure I found the first cut or semi rough a few times but i was hitting 8 iron from there instead of 6 from the fairway

so Im the opposite...I dont have a model swing though..its a bit steep and ugly at times..having the longer shaft has flatterned it a bit...Its odd i pick up a short driver now and hit it all over the shop ( not one side either). I think the theory off 43-44 inch shafts os sound one and dont question that all- (it makes pefect physics sense if you look at it from that perspective)

but the key for me is discovering by accident...Low spin drivers work for me...putting a longer shaft in low spin head works for me.....HIGH spin drivers are bad news for me

I have done the complete opposite myself, going back about 2 years ago, I was allways fiddling with 10.5 with heavy stiff shafts.

Going to an 8.5 with a 50g stiff in it now and hitting it a whole lot longer with less effort, the less effort results in more consistency.
