Just wanted to have a bit of chat about the champs prizes.

Speaking to a few blokes, there has been some thought on bumping up the prizes. Given that We arn't paying a cent for accom or green fees, personally, I would be happy to donate a prize of about the same value as what I would have spent for the weekend ( say $100 - $150)

What does everyone else think?

I'm new to these things so if that is not kocher let me know!

I have spent on average aboshirt $140 on a drink and shirt for each champs. I believe Simmsy did the same.

If we are putting a ceiling, $50-70 is fine by me.

Just make sure there is a carton for Hocking there at all times.

It will cost you $90 to play at "The Cut" so i don't know where you are sleeping?
But that doesn't matter....
We have a perpetual cup for first place, do they need a prize as well?
It's up to you guys but 3 or 4 people don't need to be loaded up with stuff.
I will sort out where the prizes will be allocated and you guys can put your name and prize against it? Fair?

simmsy
29th October 2011, 06:01 PM
Hocko, would u like to have a list of prizes say 1st-3rd, best nett each day, naga and a few others.
Then we just chip in $50,60,70, $100 or whatever each and then either give cash or get vouchers??

hocko
29th October 2011, 06:07 PM
OMS, i think all prizes should be awarded for net scores and have a 1st to 4th run down.
I was also thinking a couple of NTP's and a long drive on both days?
Then an overall 1st to 5th...
Thoughts?

rubin
29th October 2011, 06:17 PM
The 100 - 150 was to cap it. $300 or $400 prizes would have been asking a bit much I thought. But it's past that now.

rubin
29th October 2011, 06:25 PM
Oh - And I still think first should get something, but agree. 1 - 5, best gross, naga Ntp's and long drives.

simmsy
29th October 2011, 06:35 PM
everyone would have been up for $200+ had Team Hocko not come to the party and i'd be disappoint if guys are only going down because it's being paid for by a 3rd party. No one should be baulking at $60-$70 for prizes ($720 - total).

Hocko i think if you are looking to do it this way it will work out fine.

I think paying 1-5 is a bit AFL like in rewarding mediocrity.
how about pay 1-4.
best nett each day.
NTP on every par 3.
Long drive on 1 hole each course.
most birdies (not 3,4 or 5 pointers) but most birdies. this is specifically for JC, make it a sleeve of Ultra's.

Something like:
1st - $200
2nd - $100
3rd - $75
4th - $50
NTP - 8 x 20 = $160
Best Nett - 2 x $25 = $ 50
Long Drive - 2 x $30 = $60
Best Gross - 1 x $25
TOTAL - $720

if you don't like the look of it fine, but it might be something to work with. All punters should pay PRIOR to November 10 into a nominated bank account.

I'm with simmsy, if you had any intentions on taking part in the weekend, you would have been up for at least $150 in green fees + accom so I'm not sure why people are baulking at putting up at least $150 for prizes. I'm happy to throw $200 into the kitty regardless of what others put on to cover my head.

Imo What we need to do, and quick, is decide on a $$$ amount we have in total and consider doing a big buy with 3 balls or similar plus vouchers for non golf stuff plus set aside monies to keep Hocko watered.

MegaWatty

OK, i missed most of this due to a death in the family.
If all are comfy with $50 then that is fine with me, all of us are playing the weekend this time (that's if i have told everyone the correct tee times!) so we will limit ourselves to novelties on Saturday and have the major prizes for the overall weekend...not Friday as it is just a warm up boozefest for those who can make it.
1st to 4th nett scores and best gross overall should be the major's, we will make the best gross winner receive $5 that must be donated to charity! This will make Sore Rocks not compete as hard!

These are my outside the square ideas...

We don't want golf stuff as most of the stuff we get is either in eBay or on here! I propose that a voucher be drawn up (I'm quite handy on photoshop) with an amount of cash placed into a holding account!

The winner of the voucher entitles them to that amount off their next ozgolf or eBay purchase! I would prefer ozgolf so it can be regulated!

Also we all get stuff done by fit, so an amount paid directly to TF ((say $50), can be used on the winners next club fitting! If Fit wins he keeps the $50 or gets another prize!

Hocks, looks good.

I say $10 more per person to bump up novelties. We always have 4 ntps. That would give us $150 in the novelty department and you can make each ntp and long drive $15, which is what we have paid in the past.

Ok, great suggestion whoever made it to have a nominated account for the prizes! That way everything is kept under lock and key for the big weekend and the
controversy of the missing money at Secret Harbor is not a repeated occurrence.

The prize allocations seem on the money Hocko and sorry to hear about you family loss. But good times are a-coming! What a hearty gesture made by Mega to put some money to charity. Hat is off to you...

Idgg, rubin and I were discussing about the courses, there

I will be banging my old Barina Down on Saturday Morning. I'm thinking of a 7.15am leave, get some coffee and Breakfast and will get to Bunno by about 8.45am. (probably earlier). Its 45 to Dunno, so that would mean getting to the links by about 9.30ish.

You honestly think there will be 12 birds amongst the sorry lot of us? Your generosity is appreciated, you are covered for your bird donations on the weekend by the lot of us, if you agree that every bent or broken.shaft is $20 to charity. However, I will not hesitate is taking your skins money, byatch.
This will be a walk over.....you haven't shot less than 90 lately have ya Sore Rocks?

Hey Gang Thinking out Loud...

I'm not sure what everyone's plans are, but is it OK if I drive straight to the Village, Dump my stuff and grab a lift down with someone?
Can't see any drama with that Shadester.

I peaked at 19 in August and have been 11.5 for 3 weeks. Another couple of bad rounds before Champs should have me at my best for Saturday with a cruise on Sunday at the Cut where I will not be trying to beat the course but play to handicap.

I feel I am hitting the ball as well as ever but not scoring! I had 11 pars, 4 bogeys where I missed 4 x 3 footers for par (I've sorted that), started with an 8 and finished with a 12 and had a 9 on 13 on Saturday! It's either very good or very bad.

I'm playing super golf bar for some very bad holes!

I feel I will click in the next few weeks, could be this week might be at thee champs!

Surely Rubin's form should see him in Good stead. 41 points off 22 last week, will see him be a big danger at the Lakes IMO. Shortish course with wide open Front 9 off 22 might see a record score on the Front, especially with a few par 5's reachable in two.... (by memory....I spent leavers week in a house that overlooks the 8th (i think) Green. Large chunks of the day was spent having putting comps for drinks, Catching Well hit 9 irons with our hands and lost virginity for a few of us... this is of course stories for the champs)....This is where JC will make his move on Sunday, the linksy style of the back 9 suiting his game.

Shadesy's Form Guide

- I expect Rubin to be leading after Saturday. Anyone who can get to most par 5's in 2 and has 2 shots on 4 holes is Dangerous. Will he be able to put away the Driver on Sunday, to maintain a lead where the Tighter Fairways and Linksy Style has seen him struggle at time.
- JC, Will always be there and there abouts. Should get a nice ego massage from Nuffie on Saturday. Saturday night will be the Key for JC, losing in Skins may see the UC come out in him. If he cleans up, he may rest on his laurels, already making a profit from the weekend? Will he blame the Swing Changes?
- Simmsy will be busy trying everyone's driver on Sunday to care... Is there for the beer!
- Fit would of given up the ghost on Saturday night, with the Mini Golf comp just too much for his foot/back/ankle as JC would not let him use a cart around the Village putt putt Course.
- IDGG is a smoky, who will might have 24 points on the easier Saturday course and win Sunday with 40 points. Relishes the challenge.
-Cosmo will her mind be in QLD still thinking how much better the Champs in QLD were and wishing SMS was here?
- Nuffie may not have enough golf in him. Will plot around the The Cut, but wont be in Contention after Annoying JC all Saturday about the Immense Test of golf Dunsborough Lakes has provided him this side of Chequers.
- The host (Hocko) should suit the Cut and could be a late challenger...its all about the opening 9 for him on Saturday (even Friday) on his Fortunes for the Weekend. Will he have enough clubs to get him through the 3 days?
- GolfNut...A veteran of the "public Track' and should do well on Saturday. Now with an Official Handicap will this hinder him on Sunday. Also 3 Days away may see many a phone call on Saturday/Sunday night which may be a distraction. Will be Watching the Wherabouts of JC at all times.
- Daz_Golfa....Will he or wont he....Turn up?
- Tommy G - Not seen enough of the G man to Make a reliable comment, but playing in his first champs (like myself) will he succumb to the booze, Skins and Poker Temptations and golf will take a back seat, better for the experience, or will we see a sensible Committed Golfer ready to add a merit bar to his Resume....Probably not.

Tips:

1. JC
2. IDGG
3. Rubin

:shock::shock::shock::shock::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrg reen::mrgreen:

your dreaming if you think i'll be in contention! ;) Having said that, i believe previous history shows that the Naga from the previous champs has done alright in the next weekend. Dont hold your breath though.

your comment on fit was quite funny. the girls in the office just gave me a strange look as i sprayed coffee on my computer screen!

My Pics:
- If Daz shows his face, he will be the quiet achiever a solid 36 - 38 on saturday and again on the sunday will put him to the top. It will just depend on whether or not he is actually there.
- I expect Fit to show well on the sunday - he probably has his "Cut" outfit selected (will we see a repeat of the electric blue and bright white???). For all his complaints on the course, he has played it enough times now to know how to get around with a handy score.
- IDG - When he's on his game, he is almost unbeatable, but consistency is the key. His flashes of brilliance at Chequers indicated he has the skills, but can he put them all togtether at one time? His game play would suit a links course, and god knows the man has enough practice on resort courses!
- Unfortunately for JC, I dont think he will figure in the weekends standings. He will have to play some outstanding (sub par) golf to be in contention, and while he may get there on one of the days, I dont know if he can do the double.
- I agree entirely with you on nuffie. Unfortunately for the little guy, he just doesnt have enough golf under his belt in recent weeks to play to his Nuf-cap over the weekend. Same deal with Golfnut.
- TommyG, has a handy game and really turn it on when he needs to. If he has a cap of between 15 - 17 he will be one to be reckoned with come the back 9 on sunday. His qualifying round at the Vines this weekend will determine how much of a threat he will be.
- Shadesy could tear the course up on sunday. With so much time on KB, the cut will be almost like a second home. Can he get rid of those massive blowouts that kill his end result score?
- Simmsy will be to busy thinking of Yoss, spending time on ebay buying the next driver/fairway/putter etc, or just be getting to pissed to play properly. Long odds to take it out.
- Hocko. contrary to popular belief, I think the calms and relaxed Hocko will be at champs. He wont lose his temper and no clubs will be broken. I also expect to see flying bacon, and nuffie to win the longest drive every day. However, after all that he will be a top 5 contender after going all out on the sunday.
- Cosmo is the dark horse, and my roughie for a place.

Champ - IdGolfGuy
Runner Up - Tourfit
3rd - Daz (assuming he arrives)
NAGA - Golfnut. The surprise of having his nuts handed back for the weekend will be too much of a shock and he wont be able to control himself :D

I sure hope Champs on Sunday doesn't come down to the wire, it would be excruciating to hear the "I lost it on those damned last four holes" scenario (16th is OK...just 15, 17 & 18 are crap)

Am planning also another contribution to keep up with ozgolf tradition, that is sure to make this weekend a lot safer for those in my groups on the respective days.

I'm investigating options to bring along another 'special device' - as snake season will be in full effect and safety on the course is a high priority on this trip, in the event that the 'boonge' becomes an area that any ozgolfer may be required to venture into, in the event of finding any stray shot and the need to execute any recovery/drop in vegetation that exceeds approximately 1ft in depth.

PPE is of course the last line of defence on the 'hierarchy of controls' however this device will be sure to come in handy for all those involved and speed up play/removing the fear of snakes. It will avoid the need for a JHA/Take 5 or Hazard ID to be conducted (and everyone hates paperwork) before opting to enter the 'deep stuff'.

Daz_golfa will be the one to watch this weekend and Sore Rocks will feature closely in the skins competitions, though he like myself will be in search for the middle of the clubface/consistency early on, as we are each coming off patchy form and limited competition golf. Never write off Sore Rocks the 'ultra-compeditior' but we will both have a steep slope to climb in the official contest no doubt off our lower caps to play with.

BTW, being considered an underdog for the weekend is the way it's always been for me historically so nothing has really changed. So the way I see it, it's the comfort zone that's always been there. If I manage to strike some form on the Friday, this is only going to help.

AND a new 33" White Hot #5 odyssey putter (with no offset) has just showed up at my house :). On Thursday I will take it for a test flight at The Vines practice area.

After a couple of bites, you can't taste the heat.

It's because your tongue has disintegrated...

It must be said that when we did that (the chilli dog thang!), Adlo, who is a regular, DID say that they were way hotter than normal.

I had a 7 and a sore ring for about 2 days...I think simmsy went a 6 and was likewise sweating buckets, Adlo had 8 and said it was like +20% hotter. IDGG had 10 and breezed through it like he was eating honey. Yoss's case is now folklore (I can't even remember what number he had...but he had it twice)

(JC had a chicken dog at about 3 or 4.... SOFT C*CK!)

I had a 6 or so. THe combo of chilli dog and seven different types of booze worked wonders.

Wasn't my chilli dog...was the smell of Yoss's chilli dog v.2 that caused that.

I seemed to be the only one brave enough to go in there and try to help. Except Adlo, who was worried about his Auntie's carpet!

Sat normally works like this.
Golf.
Quick lunch.
More golf until darkness.
Scramble to find something to eat so that drinking and poker can start before the night gets too old.
Drunken midnight mini golf.

Welcome to WA champs, Cosmo.

A BBQ would be good, but we have to cook, and that would take time away from evening shenanigans.

so will going into town to get fodder. You get food on the way back from the drunken skins game. No extra trip, no cooking required. Realistically, we don't get back until around 8. It is well too late to start prepping and cooking. Besides, no one will want to chip in for food to share with Tourfit.

It keeps quitely in it's air tight plastic container....i assume it is as pungent as the day it was purchased.
I don't think i will look too cool for Sunday's round but it is my duty to don the belt.
