Post your teams, if you change them , then requote your previous selection post.

Dugan and Jennings in the NSW side.

They been playing well enough ??

Peter
15th May 2011, 05:58 PM
Jennings was good in City v Country, but hasn't done much in a poor Panthers side this year. Dugan is talented enough but spends far too much of the game behind play with the trainers, instead of pushing up in support of his ball runners.

Soward is the most in form 5/8 in the comp (apart from Locky) no doubt, if he was left out it would have been a travesty.

Does he really represent value on the interchange ?

As a Second Row/Lock, some one like Steve Menzies or Brad Clyde represented better value to to play out wide as opposed to someone like Idris who is known for his equal moments of his brilliance and laziness as a Centre to play in close.

Interchange means 10/20 minutes impact out of him before he goes MIA, at which stage you drag him off again..

I understand that, but he doesnt always start out with the brilliance.

Mudguts has a good point, Soward would look good behind the Qld pack as he does with the Dragons, but on paper the NSW pack may not allow him that opportunity against Qld.

Soward needed to be selected. Form 5/8th of the comp. NSW need to blood players to rebuild, which they should have been doing over the past few years. I expect him to get the crap bashed out of him and be under a lot more heat than he gets at St George, but that is what SOO is. He is likely the next Australian 5/8th, who else can you pick there? I reckon he will go well.

Soward went "missing" for a couple of years at the Roosters after debuting, I think he had a few personal issues with a sick father and a fall out with the coaches etc.

That might give the impression he is younger then he is, but he has been around for a while, and Thurston did debut very young and seems to have been around forever.

Watch Lockyer and Thurston in the rep games mate .... they both change roles during the course of the game.

Thurston would easily be able to cover 5/8 at rep level, and the added bonus would be Cronk coming in and strengthening an already great understanding with his Storm teamates 8)

PeteyD
16th May 2011, 10:56 AM
I don't mind Bird as a player, but the thing with his GF a couple of years ago makes me think he is a royal CLINT.

I know they change roles, but Lockyer has the schmartz there, Thurston is more the spontaneous guy. I guess Cronk could be considered more level headed too, would be an interesting combination. I like the way Soward is starting to control games, and he won the chocolates in the Cows Dragons game. I think he might surprise at rep level, and I am quite concerned about the selected NSW team.

Jamie Soward insists he is no longer a turnstile in defence and is ready for the challenge of Origin football

Jamie Soward prefers to be known as the 'E-Tag' these days, but he's confident of stopping whatever State of Origin traffic is headed his way.

Soward (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/player?id=108530&name=jamie-soward&team=55012) earned the unwanted 'speed hump' moniker when he was effortlessly brushed aside by giant centre Greg Inglis in an NRL match two years ago.
His defence has hardly been a major issue since but the unkind nickname has stuck to the 26-year-old who says it will be a relief to finally make his Origin debut against Queensland next week.

"The speed hump, I love to call it the E-Tag, it's a bit more modern these days, so I'd like to think the E-Tag might be gone," Soward joked.
"I'm not the only bloke who has missed a tackle on Greg Inglis, I've missed more than one on him.

"(I'm) just looking forward to getting out there, not worried about what everyone else is saying.
"Ricky (Stuart) (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/state-of-origin/why-nrl-form-and-origin-history-should-have-been-enough-for-jarryd-hayne-to-earn-a-new-south-wales-berth/story-fn31yxah-1226056438738) will be giving me directions come game time and, provided I follow that and do my part for the team, I'm sure I'll be fine."
Fine too is the relationship between Soward and Stuart (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/state-of-origin/new-south-wales-coach-ricky-stuart-phones-the-big-name-players-he-omitted-from-state-of-origin-i/story-fn31yxah-1226056867073), who banished the prolific point-scoring youngster from first grade at the Sydney Roosters while questioning his toughness.
"Early on in my career, I think that was fair enough," Soward said.
"I was obviously going up and down a bit with my form and since then I've worked hard to turn it around.

"I've had a few good years at the Dragons and I feel my footy's gone upwards since then so I'm looking forward to working with Ricky again.

"He's a smart man and I think he's a very passionate New South Welshman most importantly."
Soward is among five players making their Blues debut, three of them Dragons.

Canberra fullback Josh Dugan (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/player?id=109463&name=josh-dugan&team=55004) and Newcastle winger Akuila Uate (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/player?id=108818&name=akuila-uate&team=55007) will join Soward's clubmates Trent Merrin (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/player?id=109660&name=trent-merrin&team=55012) and Dean Young (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/player?id=108610&name=dean-young&team=55012) in pulling on the blue jersey for the first time.
Merrin said Bennett had given him one piece of advice.

"Just keep quiet and don't say anything, that's what he said,'' Merrin said.
"I think just because I'm the joker of the Dragons, I say a lot of stupid things.
"So he just said keep your mouth shut and run with it.''
