View Full Version : The Players - Major Withdrawal (spoiler inside)

MegaWatty

Tiger has withdrawn after shooting +6 on the front nine citing leg injury.

Dave1, I made sure you weren't able to see thus in the topic. You're welcome.

This can also be the main Players thread.

Tiger's days are gone with the new blood on the PGA and Euro tours. He will still have a win here and there but will only be a shadow of the player he was.
Two knee ops and now achillies problems.. looks bad for the great man

Bullshit - he will be back. And he will smash Jack's 18 major record.

The guy has played like a total chump and still manages to post a score and not miss a cut.

I will take bets now from anyone who reckons he will not win another major.

And 10+ years until he's in his mid 40's where we've seen other players over the years still competitive. Just needs to pull his head in, disappear for a while and ask Butch what to do. Then get Fluff back on the bag.

When Palmer won his last major nobody in the world would have believed he wouldnt win another. Tiger will be the same. He will always seem like he has many more in him until one day everyone realises it is too late. I really don't know when that will be, nobody does, it could be now or it could be in 6 majors time. As someone who doesn't worship tiger I still laugh when I see him hit a good shot and the commentators and fanbois range about how only he could have every hit that shot (even though we've seen others do it many times in the past) and how he is going to win 20 majors.

Seriously I really don't think he will pass Jack & I really wouldnt be surprised if he didn't win another one.

13th May 2011, 08:22 PM
I've always believed that 18 is within his reach. He may lose interest after he reaches his personal goal...which he has never publicized. Probably a couple more than Jack's.

Golf is the instrument to get to the record. He'll probably start to like the game after he gets the record. Then he'll hit his sublime period.

I don't think he has ever played for the love of the game. He has only played because he dominates. And played because that is all he has known.

Johnny Canuck

I think that he doesn't have the heart.

He won't be able to handle mediocrity and will semi-retire at a very young age once he realises that he/his body can't compete.

i can't see him passing 18 majors - his body is badly beat up. He has never had a smooth easy going swing, it's very hard on the body what he does/did, he has lost the magic he held over the golfing & non-golfing public he is now seen as just another bloke that had it all but decided to 'ho it up instead, i reckon he is still hurting mentally from the damage his public image has received.

Like said here earlier, i reckon he doesn't love the sport now and is just playing for records and i'm not sure that would be enough to get the job done.

And 10+ years until he's in his mid 40's where we've seen other players over the years still competitive.

We virtually see no top players maintain their competitiveness after the age of 43*. Its as if the golf gods draw a line through that age and they steadily decline from there, until they get their second wind at 50.

I see no reason for Tiger to be any different. He has won 4 majors in the last 5 years, he is getting worse not better, and his 'premiership window' is open for about another 8 years at the most, and he needs 5 more for his personal goal to pass Jack. At the moment I wouldn't be making bets that he will get there.

* The only exception in this generation has been Kenny Perry, he actually has continually improved throughout his 40's, but obviously he wasn't a top player before that.

Golf Channel showing some highlights of shots on the 17th, Bubba had a double dunk, sucked one back into the water from the centre of the green. (That was his second ball from the drop zone after dunking his tee shot short)

Phil nearly holed out, then made a little girls day by handing over his golf ball.

Nice win for KJ .... he's a damn solid player !!

David Toms also earns an honourable mention for leading during the last round and managing a birdie on the last hole (from a sand filled divot) to force a playoff.

Shame he missed from inside 5 feet on the playoff (17th) for the first time this week to hand it to KJ :(
