Secondly, not to be a prick, but these guys had advertised the Cleveland/Srixon sale day (today) for at least a week. Which means they've known these deals for a while. As a consumer, mistake or not, things like this should have all been checked prior to advertising.

and these are the same guys that last week had shoes advertised at RRP of $129.95 when the manufacturers Australian site had them at $69.95. RRP

Made their 'reduced' price of $59.95 look like a massive reduction but from a ficticious inflated RRP

Seems 'mistakes' happen frequently there and not always to their advantage by today's effort

Swings and roundabouts they say!

Clearly you are only reading what you want to.

As I've previously posted, at the time these were bought, the offer was 4 doz @ $68. The offer was then accepted. Simple. Nothing was done to 'take advantage' of anything.
Should a business wish to avoid losses, pretty simple checks can and should be made.
That's if you believe it to be a mistake. Perhaps it was the realization that their product was selling too quickly? Given the lack of correspondence directly I don't know, nor do I really care.
If something scans up cheaper at the shops, do YOU insist you pay the ticketed price?
At any rate, as customers, we are happy with our purchases and the service received. Which means that there is a chance of repeat purchases.

But which is the correct price, the system or the tag?

If I went to the register with item in hand with the price on it, that is the price I would pay.

You seem to be confusing a legitimate discount with an honest mistake. Anyone who takes advantage of an honest mistake is prety dishonest in my opinion. But I certainly respect your right to disagree (so long as you dont shout at me in CAPITAL LETTERS.)

Timmyd
14th April 2011, 12:26 PM
So what you are saying Jack, is if you went to K-Mart and purchased something you would pay the ticket price? Im sure we have all seen the Kmart adds on TV where they scan cheaper than whats on the ticket??? I can almost promise you, you would pay the scan price. None of us have taken advantage of this offer. like someone stated, they knew this offer was coming for a week, so really they had a week to look at the ad they had written and change this. No one has stolen, really we just got "Birdie of the day"

Webster
14th April 2011, 12:31 PM
Firstly, I never go to Kmart, however If something at the register scans lower than the ticket price I would always ask " is that lower price correct" and if the answer is yes, then I will pay that. But if the girl says "no that might be a mistake" then I would insist that she be sure otherwise I would pay the higher price.

The deal that was originally put up on the site was a mistake, an error, it was never intended to be that price.

Timmyd
14th April 2011, 12:45 PM
I do see where you are coming from Jack, but I do believe it was also you that said...

"Anyone else notice that as you go through checkout, to the page where you enter your details that it changes from 4 dozen to 2 dozen? Could be a mistake?"

By reading that, it shows you went to purchase some of the "mistake" item as you were in the checkout page where you enter details.

henno
14th April 2011, 12:52 PM
What if you had already completed the transaction, Jack? Then went back to Kmart some time later and notice that they have put the price up from what you paid. Would you go to the service desk and offer to give them more money?

I think most (if not all) transactions that were honoured before 12:50pm were not aware at that stage that there was any mistake whatsoever. It wasn't until they started to change the details on the site that any of us noticed. In fact, if you hadn't mentioned it I would never have noticed.

Baudwalker
14th April 2011, 12:57 PM
So Baudwalker, is that 1 box or 2 that you will be donating to the Ozgolf champs this year?

I'll donate the lot as soon as the Air Tickets and prepaid Accommodation vouchers arrive!

I need them because i could only donate in person to be sure that nothing untoward happened or someone was NOT taken advantage of

Webster
14th April 2011, 01:00 PM
Timmyd,

I never had any intention of grabbing any balls as part of this deal as I have dozens of them at home. However, as I buy often from these guys and know what their price structure usually is, coupled with the prices on the first page of the BOTD site, it just didnt look right, and after looking into a bit further my suspicions were confirmed and hence I posted that it "could be a mistake"

Please understand that I do not begrudge anyone who ended up with 4 dozen when really they should have only ever got 2. I simply suggested that as most, if not all of you found out about it from this thread, and given the generousity of these guy who are a small business, not a K Mart, that some good karma could be passed on with a donation to the Ozgolf Champs prize fund. To each their own and you will do what you want to do of course.

Henno,

Your analogy makes no sense whatsover.

Your analogy makes no sense whatsover.

It makes perfect sense. You see a product, you think it's a good price, you pay for it; transaction done. You later find out that the price per unit has gone up, however you honestly had no idea this was the case at the time you completed the transaction (which is now complete as Kmart's policy is to honour it's pricing).

What do you do? Do you go to Kmart and offer them more money? Or give them back the extra pairs of jocks they gave you in honouring their advertised price?

It's an honest question; I'm not arguing entitlement here.

It makes no sense in the context of what is being discussed here. I buy my undies at Rivers anyway - their price never changes.

I'm not talking about the donation to the champs. I am simply talking about how you would have acted differently, judging from these sorts of statements:

I think it is disappointing that a few here are taking advantage of an honest mistake made by some good golf industry people....

I would never take advantage of them if they made an honest mistake....

That's the bad karma bus working against you Henno....

In order to cleanse your souls, I think that everyone who has taken advantage of the mistake, generousity and goodwill of the seller....

My analogy is merely to ask whether you honestly believe it is taking advantage if you walk into Kmart, buy something at the advertised price to which they honour, only to return later and notice that they've put the price up.

Henno,

If Kmart had made a mistake with the original price and I became aware of it later, I would donate the portion of the undies to the Salvo's that represented the percentage of the mistake made. If the original price was correct at the time, then there is no issue. The point with the BOTD deal was that it was a mistake from the outset, later corrected. Rememder they didnt correct the price, only the number of balls that the price related to.

It only counts if they were bought in a comp.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm going to make the assumption that most of the people that bought the balls would not have been aware that it was a genuine mistake. I wasn't.

price per unit

Same thing, whether it be price up or quantity down.

But thanks for answering.

How many are you going to donate Henno?

end of the day Jack, if any company had a problem with the mistake and they didn't want to supply what they had advertised, even if it was a mistake, they would have simply refunded peoples money. You seem to have more of a problem with it than the company supplying!!

And what happens if they then offer the same balls on their main website for less money? or do another special at a lower price later on?. Should they then give everyone who bought them this time for more, a refund?

End of the day we don't know if it was a mistake or not. If they emailed me and asked if I wanted a refund or 2 boxes as it was a mistake I wouldnt mind and still would be a customer. Don't try and make me feel bad for getting a bargain.

I.m with you Gomer ..... when I made a mistake quoting to supply and install computer systems no one EVER offered me my money back.

I think the term they use is 'the cost of doing business'

They (BoD) required an email address with the order and had they asked / advised any error I would have agreed

Do I feel bad .... NO ... certainly no where near as bad as anyone that happened along AFTER the event

I got a call from the Birdie of the Day guys last night explaining what had happened and asking me if I would accept 3 boxes instead of 4 for the same price. I agreed. I think it was great customer service that they made the personal call.
