View Full Version : If you had a Mizuno fetish

What would you have as your set make up ?

I already have an MX-300 3 iron in transit and I am looking to build a set around that.

My first thought is a MP-53 4 iron and then MP-63 5 down to 9 iron. I'm relying on my mate from Nomad for my wedge.

Maybe I should consider an MP-53 5 iron as well, or maybe I should think about MP-68's for 6 through 9 ?

What would you guys do if you had the same fetish ?

Very wise decision to ask the above... given you will be selling them to someone from here before too long :)

Bought a set of MP-53's (4I-PW) a few weeks ago and am very happy with them.

Not sure why you would want a split a set of them though as they are a combo set anyway. They have a pocket cavity from 4I - 7I and are muscle back from 8I - PW.

I would head over to ISG and join the mizuno cult following.

fair point, I thought the 63's were less chunky though mainly with sole width.

53's 4 through 6, 68's 7 down ?

Pete I think you've got it spot on, mate I would'nt bother with the 63's because if you can hit them you can hit the 68's. The 63's are'nt true cavity backs and the forgiveness they provide would be minimal compared to the 68's which are purtier.

Shot 7 over with 695mb today first time out, I think the 58/68 combo will be much nicer. Even soft stepped Dygolds (S300) feel shit to me these days.

This should be fun 8)

Not a fan of the 58's Love my 68's tho! was thinking of a 68/58 combo but don't have any troubles with the long irons in the 68's. The only thing ill consider going to is the 710MB but they are a little to much iron for me

If they have the same sole width throughout, I'd be thinking the 68's would be easier to play than the 58's anyway !

Think about making a Mizzie super set.... Not completely sold though.

I currently have this:

Mp 53 - 3 & 4
Mp 63 - 5 - PW
Mp 68 - 3 - PW

Not a massive fan of the MP 53. Ball flight balloons a bit too much for my liking. Would love to get my hands on MP 63 3/4 irons. An ozgolfer was keen to me a set at one stage..... missed opportunity.

Who is still rocking mizzie irons?

I'm gaming mp63 4-p but don't want to sell my 3&4i sorry mate.

I probably will... If I can find replacements.

Was it you that I discussed buying the 63 heads from last time? It was somebody from WA.

I have been thinking about changing back to AP2's but maybe the Mizuno is a good option. What would be a good equivalent of (or better than) and AP2 for a 12 handicapper (moving steadily downwards)

popper81
1st May 2013, 01:58 PM
Ian, depends on what you want to spend? Would you buy new?

The mp 60/63/64 are very tidy. Players clubs with a bit of forgiveness.

The 57/58/59's all sit great. ( The higher number indicates newest models) with a little bit extra forgiveness with misses.

I am gaming the 68's (blades) at present. Surprising forgiving and just look so good at address. I will go back to 63's soon.

Still playing 33's although I did make the mistake of putting tm r300s in the bag yesterday and was missing everything to the right.

IanO
1st May 2013, 02:08 PM
Hmm ... I suppose I need to try some out, but I have tried the Titleist Blades and hit them well but found that I need more forgiveness, hence I am using cavity backs or the AP2's (which are really sort of CB's)

Sounds like the 57/58/59 would probably be the go. I would try to get the latest I can afford.

There really is very little difference in performance between the older and newer models IMO. I went form MP 60's to 63's and it was like putting on old shoes straight up. Two holes in and I's forgotten I had new clubs.

You will not be disappointed.

Ian I went with mp63 in December. I was on 12 at the time and my iron game is probably weakest part of my game. I find the 63 easy to hit well mate. It's the best I've hit any irons. Don't let your hc dictate what club you buy, find a club that works for you.

Been playing MP53 in a full set now for almost 2 years. Changed the shafts from ProjX 5.5 to Flighted 6.0 in the last 3 months.

That is pretty much... I have no want to play blades in my shorter irons... THAT is where I want the forgiveness and consistent distance control. Got me f*cked why anyone would want a mixed set.

Ive got a set of mp33's and a set of mx23's. When im striking well the 33's stay put, maybe with the 3 and or 4 of the 23's. When i havent been playing i chuck the full set of 23's in the bag; and blend them together depending on the day. Love em. I dont think you need to spend the extra money for the later models to get the feel and performance of mizuno goodness.

To be honest it feels like cheating when i bag the mx23's they are that stupidly easy to hit.

5th May 2013, 11:33 PM

I will always love my MP33's and will keep them forever (yea right), but have recently admitted defeat in the battle of my actual swing versus the clubs I use.

Have moved to a non Mizuno cavity back and am very pleased with the results so far, quite easy to hit and the distance is great. Need a few more games to really be sold on the idea though.
