No idea when, but I suggest you start collecting your clubs for this.

No metal woods. No cavities. Minimum iron age is 30 years but I think there shouldn't be issues getting them to be 40 years or older.

We need to find some balata's or B51's!

Who's keen?

Golfnut
10th April 2011, 11:56 PM
Your kidding.......we can't even get our sh!t organised for a Major or Champs and you expect this to actually happen?

Having said that, this sounds like fun but where does one find 30 yr old clubs? Don't think even Cashies would have anything that old.....this could get expensive.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 12:07 AM
Cashies sure do. The bay. Gumtree. Wherever. The driver and putter I just picked up are pretty old.

This will happen because it'll be a limited number of players. ;)

Golfnut
11th April 2011, 12:08 AM
No major then? ;)

I already have the irons. Will start looking for the woods.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 12:39 AM
What irons do you have mate?

idgolfguy
11th April 2011, 12:50 AM
Wilson FG17s 2-PW and original Ping Eye2s that were grandfathered.

My father in laws irons aren't blades, but they are at least 25 years old. The cavity is so small that it will excite Yoss.

Yossarian
11th April 2011, 08:13 AM
Wanker.

And Mega I am sure is good at organising so this will get of the ground. Maybe.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 08:28 AM
25 years? That's modern! Probably the same era as the Wilson Ultra I use at Araluen.

And ID, you'll be using the Wilson's. No cheat stick cavity Pings my friend. ;)

rubin
11th April 2011, 10:13 AM
I'm keen, but i do have a set of cavities that are exactly 30yrs old. 1981 they were purchased by grandad, and the first sticks i ever hit.

I believe I may be able to scrounge around and find the persimmon woods that went with it.

idgolfguy
11th April 2011, 11:41 AM
The woods may be a challenge. Only need two though.

I think I've still got my Jack Nicklaus blades around somewhere. They were my dads before he handed them to me.

Count me in.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 06:42 PM
There are a lot of sets around missing PW and SW so I propose that you can substitute your own wedge in provided that the loft does not exceed 56*.

idgolfguy
11th April 2011, 08:07 PM
Getting a vintage ball will be challenging. Maybe a group buy from a supplier, if there is one.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 08:08 PM
It will be tough as most rubber would be dead by now.

markTHEblake
11th April 2011, 08:09 PM
I have 2 or 3 dozen Titleist professional 100's. They are not balatas but they go absolutely nowhere.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 08:13 PM
Because they're dead or because that's just how balls used to be?

Golfnut
11th April 2011, 09:46 PM
I think my old Slazengers are from the 80's MW but they do have a very very small cavity......the woods are so bloody small but they're metal so they will be out I'm guessing.

I've also may have a bucket of balls somewhere at my dads (assuming my mum hasn't ditched them) with very very old golf balls in them....probably circa late 70's early 80's.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 09:50 PM
Ahem.

Woods. Not metals.

No cavities.

Harden up gentlemen. This is as much about finding old clubs as it is about learning how crap we actually are.

Yossarian
11th April 2011, 09:51 PM
I hit an old wooden driver further than my 9015D at Collier one day. Granted it was a modern ball.

I am keen for this and probably already have what I would need. They could use a re grip though, is that ok?

Golfnut
11th April 2011, 09:54 PM
SO blades or nothing?

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 09:59 PM

No probs with new grips. That's better than an iron sticking out of someone's body!

I think so. Post a pic and I will decide.

Johnny Canuck
11th April 2011, 10:14 PM
if we have limited sets, do it pure old school and split them up. one guy gets odds, the other evens. puts a real emphasis on shot making.

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 10:16 PM
I'll be checking Vinnies and garage sales for this.

Maybe!

No range finders or GPS either!

simmsy
11th April 2011, 10:44 PM
are you gonna make plans with the course to take out their 100/150M markers as well;)

MegaWatty
11th April 2011, 10:46 PM
Nope. But you can walk the meters in.

Golfnut
12th April 2011, 12:08 AM
Courses were shorter in those days too weren't they?

Freo Public a good venue then?

MegaWatty
12th April 2011, 12:10 AM
Hartfield would be quite fitting. ;)

Johnny Canuck
12th April 2011, 12:39 AM
Very fitting in that the majority if the members will recognize the clubs we will be using.

markTHEblake
12th April 2011, 06:50 AM
Because they're dead or because that's just how balls used to be?

The modern golf ball goes way further, and spins a lot less. If you used todays balls you will not be able to hit it high enough and also you are going to really feel it.

idgolfguy
12th April 2011, 09:26 AM

Sun City was built in the 80s - not long?

idgolfguy
12th April 2011, 09:28 AM
Hartfield would be quite fitting. ;)
I think Burswood would be a lot more interesting - more to do with the course and interesting shorter holes. Less trouble off the fairways with some water features.

The greens are also more likely to play in the old vein for the older putters.

Dare I say it - Hartfield doesn't have much to offer for an event like this.

simmsy
12th April 2011, 09:48 AM
I like the Burswood idea. Fun course for this type of thing and not stupid long.

Also should be carry only, no buggies.

What he said. When I hit a zstar with this wooden thing, it carried about 180 or so and then rolled out another 100 metres. Was awesome!

Shadesy
12th April 2011, 10:00 AM
I will check what my pop has, i think hes got some old clubs laying around.

I found a bag of balls, that would of been from the 80's. Some real old Balls, but i have been donating them to the range over time....Damn. I will check next time I am at PK, see if I can get a few in good condition!

Johnny Canuck
12th April 2011, 04:07 PM
I think a pure parklands course, like Mandurah, would be the go. Burswood is shite.

good nic too......probably because the previous owner got laughed off the course when he rocked up with that shopping trolley.

MegaWatty
24th April 2011, 10:44 PM
Mind you, the guy's not gonna get 85 of my hard earned for it...without the sticks!

I am working on getting those Ferret irons and woods for a good price. It looks like I have also found a set of Hogans woods for cheap. If anyone needs some woods, let me know.

Soo...picked up an assortment of odds and sods off bulk rubbish on the weekend but have NFI if any of the bats meet the age requirement for this...

Dunlop Graham Marsh 1.5, 3 and 4 woods

A stack of different irons 4-W
Some Prosimmon, some slazenger, an Exactor II (Whatever that is) and some other randoms.

Worth posting pics or is this concept dead in the water...
