There are Five Divisions to compete in.

•Open – No age restrictions

•Super Seniors (50 yrs )
•Legends (60 yrs)
•Amateur – No age restriction, all golf clubs must not exceed the LEA 48” total club length rule Loft is also restricted to 8 degrees minimum loft*

Opens & Seniors are the divisions you need to win if you want to get to Las Vegas.

We also introduced the Amateur Division in 2010 so all golfers can give Longdrive a chance without having to buy specialised Longdrive equipment to be competative, as most Amateurs hit it around 240-300 metres depending on conditions.

Down the 1st, looking at Teeing it off the Putting Green. Should give us 370-380 metres to play with. Yes Unusual Set Up, but the Golf Club are teething to get us there!

The guys that go well in LD comps are freaks.

I've watched Bylsma hit bombs over the fence at Moore Park driving range during a demo night (I think for TM) with a stock driver. Apparently the X-flex stock shaft was a bit soft so he wasn't giving it everything, but they were still on the way up as they cleared the fence - fore South Dowling Street!

There was a story doing the rounds about Bylsma doing a party trick where he tees a ball up and puts it through a Sydney Yellow Pages directory.

Good to see still in the long driving stuff. I remember playing in a group with you and Ben (i think it was) in a foursomes champnship at Riverlands a few years ago.

It was definately a round to remember as me and my mate (we were only around 15-16) were in awe at some of the distances you were hitting and also with your demo you put on at the 10th after the round with your radar (yours were around 140mph if I remember correctly), giving me and my mate a few tips along the way. I still have one of the Pinnacles I chased down that you bombed way over the 11th green.

Anyway welcome on board here mate.

Long Drive grids still aren't wide enough...

...his problem isn't where the end of the range is, it's where are the sides!

(And whether there is a height restriction. Hope there isn't an airport nearby, otherwise he might shoot down petethepilot)

I dont know about aircraft, but i definately brought the rain down on the vines on sunday!

And there isn't a wide enough range to hold my ball in play!

Plus that, there's plenty of guys around who would hit it further than me.....

Make sure you come say Hi at Georges River on June 12th, as I would assume its your local now with Riverlands closed down

What's your swing speed, rubin?

i've only ever had it tested 'cold' i.e no warm up or anything, in drummond and golfbox etc. Driver speed average over about 15 - 20 balls was 114mph the last time i tried it. Max of 132 mph (1 off and going after it a fair bit). I dont know how accurate those things are though.....

I'd like to be able to hit a hundred or so on the range and then get onto a machine to measure it. Just see what the difference is once im warmed up and loose.

Can you handle a 50"shaft with 6 to 8* of loft?

Fair enough. That sounds almost exactly like me. By the way the other WA guys talk I thought you might have been an absolute bomber. Obviously there's a hefty number of tongues-in-cheeks there.

I do hit it a long way, but i've never tried a super long shaft or anything. When i get my driver going straight, i consistently get it out to 280m +, but the problem is getting it straight. At the same time, i've never actually really gone after one on the course, and I know i'mn hitting the ball further after a good 6 or 7 holes.

I havent actually played with the longer hitters on here (JC, Mega etc.) so i don't know how it stacks up, but if you compare my drives to Nuff or Yoss for example, and im well past them.

I outdrive Nuff with my 4 iron at Kennedy, so that isn't a fair comparison.

The problem with playing at Kennedy is that you can't properly gauge how far you hit it due to uneven landing areas, the wind and the tarmac like fairways.

I don't think you truly realize how far 280 is until you try and do it at another course.

I hit it a decent length, but may only catch one perfect per round, playing off 4.

To say you hit it consistently over 280 when warm is a bit rich, especially playing off 22.

I don't doubt you can hit it a long way, but in all honesty, if you hit 20 balls, how many would go over 280? Factor in slices, hooks, everything. I reckon you would be lucky to get one. I know I would.

I was going to say JC 280+ is a long long long Way. I work on a 220 Carry if I have to clear something, and thats if I nail it, and I can get it out there as well.

I think Yoss hits it further than you give him credit for!

Yoss can keep his 50" shaft. 48"'s long enough for me!

I'd have to stick to around 45". Even that amount of reach makes me swing the club flat enough these days as it is... and why run off the tee is very important to add onto my maximum of 210-215 metres of carry.

If I tried to swing a 50" I'd need a step ladder, coz would take off like a hellicopter and get myself off the ground prob higher than the ball :).

You sure do get it out there rubes, that drive on 13th at KB on Australia Day was enormous. You've got da power, just need the rudder!

I smoked one at Bunbury a few weeks ago. Slightly downhill, but soft fairways with no roll. We walked it off at 273m. I could have stood on the tee all day and not put one past it.

I have come to realise that if I hit one 220m including roll I have likely hit my best drive of the day. I hate reality.

I did clarify it to when i hit it straight. If it isn't straight-ish, then i dont really know.

In the last 4 weeks, i've hit my driver about 10 times, and in the last week, 0 since Fit's had it waiting for my new shaft.

In its current format, The driver is out of the bag. When the new shaft comes in, i'll put some range time in and get a measure on how far i'd be looking at.

I currently work on approx:
13.5* 3 wood to 230 - 250.
18* Hybrid to about 220.
4 iron to about 200.

obviously that is hitting it well and straight, which I am not claiming I do all the time. but if i catch it neat enough, that is the distance in expect.

That's some drive JC. I understand all too well there's a lot up your sleeve than just the composed swing you have been hitting around Hartfield for consistency. You can reach for this extra gear to find 30 or 40 metres more - right when you want to and in situations where fairways aren't as tight as they can be at hartfield.

I could only ever imagine what it's like to have that luxury, coz I will never experience that in this lifetime.

Instead have to stick to the little draws that run like 'wippets' - to snatch a few extra m's now and then.

Johnny Canuck
14th April 2011, 10:49 AM
I've learned Nuff, the secret is to not try for the extra yards. Keeping it in play is much better.

Alot of the time, the compact swing goes further.

So in other words, the distance just comes by trying to do all the simple things right?

Your onto something with this JC, coz on days when I manage to hit a few fairways consecutively I seem to start finding extra distance out of nowhere and more drives start coming out of the middle of the clubface too. I start trying to analyse where this extra 20m comes from, but maybe it just comes from increased confidence on the day?

crikey! With a standard length driver, that's very fast. I've played with a couple of long drivers and also Nathan Ubergang and they swing in that region. It's impressive to watch. Totally different sound at impact. Have you considered trying your luck at a long drive event?

45" Driver length is what I currently use. I would like to try a 48 or 50, but im not going to go and spend the money to buy one just to try it. Bare in mind as well, that thats a 1 off, and I would be hard pressed to swing that hard for 18 holes.

I would like to, just for curiosity, and to see if I really do get it out there comparatively. But, as you may have seen in the posts above, My problem is keeping it on the fairway (or at least the fairway im playing on). From what ive seen, you've only got about a 50m wide range to put it in.
