McLeod Cup 2011, Saturday April 16, 7:42a-7:54a & 11:06a

McLeod Cup is coming up and obviously the course won't be in pristine condition following the floods, but it's always a good excuse to have an OZgolf gathering, plus we have three OZgolf names on the club honour board.

I don't know the cost, but it's usually less than $20.

I've booked three groups for 7:42a, 7:48a & 7:54a, which seemed the friendliest times for traveling without being too late. I need names and golflink details ASAP, so our name isn't dirt at the club, and I will feed these details through to the club as we go.

I haven't booked anything for the arvo yet to suit me. I'm under the pump at home (and rightly so) for too much me time, so I'm hesitant to push for an AM time to play at this stage. If others want to play in the afternoon with me (although I seem to play badly in later games), then it will take away my dilemma.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. My wife has happily agreed for me to head to my first Mcleod Cup without the family in tow. My plan is to head around 8am from home, picking you up on the way at Helidon and making the 11am tee time. I would plan to drive back home that evening.

I took a detour on my run this morning to go past the course. Big bare patches on the 3rd and 15th, but the 10th, 11th and 14th look fine. Every bunker I saw was in play too.

Home again now after a long day.

Thanks everyone for coming out today and especially Henno for putting me up and lending me some gear.

Pretty happy with the way I turned it around from 49 on the front to 39 on the back. I was rock solid from 2 inches. 4/4 putts made inside that length.

How was the course?

As you'd expect, I suppose. Lots of bare patches and irrigation work, but that said I was only on them twice, although the ball was dirty often. The fairways were good otherwise. The greens were pretty slow.

I found the greens all different in their pace, was a real struggle to putt. In saying that you can't expect to putt well when you get no closer to the pin than 20-30 feet with your short game.

The greens were weird. They looked like they would roll well, but they were quite slow, and inconsistant. Course was in fairly good condition.

I'm glad the rain was only that bad it made the day a little harder and the course a little longer.

was a slog - but enjoyable all the same. Thanks petey for persisting through, it wasn't pretty, but at least we closed strong (great par from PD on the 17th), and cheers to rusty, the man doesn't like the rain, but it was good company while it lasted.

I thought the course was alright. Hardly took a drop all day (probably 2 a can recall), the local rules board looked like the t&c for a homeloan, so i gave most of them away and just played it as it happened. Greens looked good, but the moisture had them pretty slow.

Nah, I think we would have been a little short of 5hrs. Back nine felt much quicker than the front.

Nah they don't let proxy's collect. I used to work with the gf of a trainee pro there and he wasn't allowed to collect it for me.

It makes sense to not allow proxies to collect for major prizes, but not so much for a ball.
