Just checked with the City Golf Club and they have the 15th of April set for this this year. Rang the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation which run it, and they don't have flyers and entry forms for it yet, but she said Peter should have us in his database and would shoot out info when it's available.

Based on previous years it should be an afternoon shotgun start. About $120/team with all proceeds going to the Toowoomba Base Hospital Oncology unit which took stellar care of Leon. From what I can remember an ozgolf team has won the gross every year thus far, so we better keep the tradition alive. And I'm sure g69 could use another jacket.....

I'll be contacting my mates who I normally enter this with (the change of date last year meant they missed out, but I got my hands on a quarter of the gross prize), so get yourselves organising and lets see just how big we can make it this year. Last year was looking good till the date change so all of ya's who unfortunately missed out stick your hands up this year!!

Last year I think g69 stayed up here at the golf clubs motel the friday night and suggested it might be an option for those interested to make a night of it, and also to try and play the comp the next day.

For those of you who don't know why we make a bit of a fuss over this, Leon was my co-founder of ozgolf, my best mate and if you want to read more do a search for his username 'Jaster'.

Being the Friday before the school holidays I may be able to make this one.

I think we were talking last year about making a donation ourselves; Leons old work takes a collection and usually donates about a grand or so each year to this. I'm keen to try this ourselves. So what I'll do is from today all donations made to ozgolf will be donated to the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation at the golf day. I'll start another thread for this, maybe in the announcements and I'll keep a running total there to keep us updated, and maybe to spur us along.

You'd be fine to fly up and drive there Grant.

I believe tee-off is at noon with a shotgun start.

One of those erasable ink pens from the early 80's, you know, the ones where you could rub out the ink, but really the rubber was sandpaper and to remove the ink it just wore a hole in the paper!

That's it, the Papermate erasable ink pens.

Anyway, I have approval from the the Minster for Finance and Fun, so there is no real game breaker for me not to play.

What have you done about the donation thingo goughy?? Are all proceeds from the donation buttons going to the day or are we going to set up another way of getting some dollars together?

goughy
2nd March 2011, 08:24 AM
Yeah, haven't got around to posting about it have I! Slack arse. I felt the easiest way was all donations via the donation buttons go to it, up until the day before. That way there's no splitting money to accounts, or anything. Just everything that's in there. I'll try and get another post up today about it. That'll give us 5 or 6 weeks to collect. I'd really love to get a grand together!

Currently there's about 70cents in the paypal so it'd be starting pretty much from scratch.

goughy

Technically timesheets would be out about a fortnight in advance (if they do things like they used to 4 years ago). The best bet to get some Saturday times would be if G69 can shmooze a bit. Would only be 2 or 3 slots needed I'd guess.

How many are looking at a Sat dig too ?
The accom they have at City is pretty nice but I didn't get much of a discount last time at about $130-$150 a night.
There will be cheaper options available elsewhere.

Sounds like a plan, Rich.
The long drive home after a big day on the course is never fun.
Plus we could all sit back with a few beers watching the footy while having a punt :)

we're actually considering dropping back to one car. It would take a bit of coordination on the weekends, but it's doable. Will be hard to survive with just one. If we did do it, we'd keep the Pajero and ditch the Fiesta. Nice as it is, the Pajero is more useful.

Secured my first gig over in China and will be over there from April 2nd and probably not back until Tuesday 12th. On past history its been frowned upon to stay away on a boozy golf trip so close to being away from family.

Well dont drink so much in china and you wont come back smelling like a brewery, and you will be fine.

Plus if you can convince the Taxman your trip to Toowoomba is business, you can convince the boss too, cant you? She is a nice reasonable woman from memory.

markTHEblake

maybe while you are over there you can pick up some cheap gear and sell it here.

Now that I mention it, couple of Helensvale golfers just came back from a month in China doing some prospecting. They do glass and metal etching and engraving, and are genuises (but like you, skint), They do exceptional golf tee signs, might be someone you would like to sign up for a gig you get one day, or at least give you some china tips as well.

New green going back 30 yards and angled from left to right.

That tree doesn't look like much in that shot, but it is a real pain. And with a longer hole it will be even worse, as with driver you get far enough down that it affects your shot as it is. Having to se an even less lofted club will bring it right into play. It interferes with 1/3 of the fairway now.

Who is sticking around for a beer or fifteen afterwards besides G69? I am angling to get out for a beer with whomever after my familial duties have been peformed on Friday evening. City clubhouse is under 1km from my digs (downhill).

Oh, and bring your cash. Not that I've played there in a while, but in the past cash only when paying for your tee time in something like this. I could be wrong, but better to be prepared.
