It's about 4.5 hours if I recall correctly. Drive down in the morning, play Bonville in the afternoon and then off to CoffsHacker's restaurant for dinner. Sounds like a great day. Now.... how to bribe the missus....???

Coffs is about 2 hours from Ballina / Casino. So i'd say you could make it in 3 from the Golf Coast.

What dates are you considering? I'll be up in Casino for the October Long Weekend (2nd weekend in Oct?), so if you're entertaining that sort of time frame, i'm a potential starter.

I stand by my 4.5 hour estimate from Brisbane. Just checked the RACQ trip planner and they reckon 400kms and 5.5 hours (always conservative on the time). I also checked the NRMA distance calculator and it said 433 kms.

Bonville might be a course worth playing twice, ie. afternoon, then the following morning????

They also don't miss you with the pricing.
Top dollar for a weekend game is $99.
Between 10-20 players is $94.
Over 20 players is $84.

Probably has increased from this amount. 69er may still know the manager though.

Website listed rates are old too.

How about a NSW vs QLD match at Bonville? Sort of like State of Origin. (BTW, blues are going to CRUSH the morons ... oops, I mean the maroons in the second game. 8) )

Possibility of combining the Bonville game with the Ozgolf Champs on the same weekend? Say Saturday game at Bonville, drive up to Cool-Tweed in the evening and the Ozgolf Champs Sunday? This might tempt some of the Sydney Ozgolfers to take their cars up for the weekend. Besides, combining the two events means that you only have to ask for wife's permission once.

OK, lets keep this on track....

Let's get some ideas on the Bonville Trip. My preference would be to play Bonville on a Saturday arvo and either play it again on Sunday morning or check out Coffs Harbour. Price will be a major consideration for me, so if anyone has any contacts (hint hint golfer69) that can save us some money, please look into it.

P.S. I bags coffshacker's sofa-bed for the Saturday night.... 8)

do we wanna try and make this Bonville trip in conjunction with the Champs at the end of November :?:

personally i think it's a great idea, but being the family man that i am, i could certainly understand a few guys being hesitant about being away for the WHOLE weekend

Fishman Dan
15th June 2005, 11:10 AM
I'm up for 1 round only i think.

If i'm at the farm for that Long Weekend, i can get away at sparrows for the drive down to play the round, but i'd want to get back to the farm to visit the in-laws and perform my duties.

As for contacts, my sister went to a conference there recently and may know someone, but i'll have to check that out.

Regardless, i'm sure a group of 10-20 would attract discounts.

I think they have pretty good stay and play packages.

Fishman Dan
15th June 2005, 02:27 PM
Ok, here's what i've found through a contact at Bonville...

October / November is Bonville's busy time, so getting much/any discount is going to be tough. I'm not sure of Richard's methods, and i'm asking no questions if he has great success here.

The catch? Bonville's rates go up on October 1, 2005. The price per person could get to $115  - currently they are saying it's "going to be a little more..." I'm trying to squeeze them to suggest that if we book and pay before October, can we get the older rate.

Golf only is currently $99 p.p. twin share (2 to a cart obviously). A group booking of 20 people would get that down to $84 p.p. For a Midweek (Mon - Fri) game we're looking at another $10 or so less ($89 p.p. BEFORE group discount).

I'm pretty much quoting their standard rates here, so if we're set on dates, room requirements etc we can push for further discounts. Anyone for a long(er) weekend?

And finally, if anyone here would like to become the Financial Controller of Bonville International Golf Course, let me know and i'll put you in touch with the right person.

exactly right Drunken

thinking about it a bit more, maybe having it at the same time as the champs might NOT be such a good idea.

Fishman Dan
15th June 2005, 03:32 PM

The champs is solid - leave it alone, it's a tried and true formula. If Bonville's a chance, make it a different trip altogether.

Jarro
15th June 2005, 03:35 PM
.. why not, as a suggestion, we play Bonville, then on the way home .. somewhere like Ballina etc. :?:

there must be some other nice little courses in the area we could hack around on the way home

Fishman Dan
15th June 2005, 03:39 PM
Ballina is far from little.. sheesh, it's not like Brisbane is a *big* city

If you were limited to a single stop, then i'd recommend Mur'bah. After playing it last weekend I rate it.

I've said it before, if you wanted to make an event of it, try a Northern Rivers Swing - there's some good golfing between Casino / Lismore / Ballina / Ocean Shores / Murwillumbah / Tweed.

Jarro
15th June 2005, 03:42 PM

i'd be happy to play any of the above mentioned courses.

BrisVegas
15th June 2005, 03:57 PM
yeah, keep the Bonville Trip and the Champs separate.

July/August/September time frame would be fine by me. CoffsHacker might be able to enlighten us as to the quality of the Coffs Harbour as a second course. I'd prefer not to drive halfway back, stop for a 5 hour round, then drive another couple of hours. To me it makes sense to play 2 games in Coffs and be done with it. Of course, if the mob wants to play Murwoollybar or wherever else on the way back, I'll go along with that....

I've got fond memories of playing Murwillumbah.  I played it a couple of times whilst I was up in Lismore ... shot 75 there one time (played after a big storm which downed a few large trees making the course somewhat easier).  Great view of Mount Warning ... which I also have "fond" memories of.  Climbed it with a couple of good looking female interns ... great view ...

Out of the courses mentioned above, I'd rate Ocean Shores the highest.

Are there any airports near Coffs Harbour?

If someone organises a day, I can check my roster and I'd be keen to play the course again. If we played the course twice (say Sat and Sun), could they do a better price?

If we are thinking about accomodation, I think you can get much cheaper rates at a nearby motel than getting one of those rooms that line the 1st fairway.

I'd be willing to sacrifice an annual leave day to save $50 off the normal green fee... Hopefully CoffsHacker can confirm, but I'm guessing the dates will be:-
