It's on....

The Punchup @ the Palms...

We've found a course that is likely playable and not too far from Cairns so Dcanto can get to his next appointment

7:23, Sunday 12 Feb at Paradise Palms... only booked for two so far, feel free to join us for the rumble if you dare...:twisted:

I was trying to sex it up a bit....

Let's not the truth get in the way of a good advertising campaign:mrgreen:

As previously posted, I can't make this, but I'm very interested to hear what condition P Palms is in.

How was Mareeba today??

Wetter than last week, but still better than Cairns.

Wetter than last week, but still better than Cairns.

Not super difficult right now; when I was coming home yesterday afternoon there were lakes forming on the 4th fairway at Cairns

That's what prompted Dcanta & I to look for another venue..

Dcanto won it 2up...

I'll leave the post mortem to him;

Congratulations Dcanto, well played

Dave is a burglar of epic proportions so it's no big deal losing to him.
How was PP?

EDIT never mind, I read about it in the 'what did you shoot' thread.

I gave Dave a three hole headstart and even though I worked damn hard to get it back to one down, he killed me on 16 where he gets a shot and I don't.... Then another epic up and down on 17 to square the hole and win the match...

My first 6 holes were friggin woeful and then I just couldn't nail the 4 or 5 birdie opportunities I gave myself

Not convinced PP was worth the money today to be honest.. I think they are a bit cheeky charging full price when the course is okay but, not in good nick. Greens were very, very slow and bumpy

A couple of years ago I had a day off work to play there on a Wednesday. Looking from the 1st tee the course looked superb. Got to the first green and found they'd just been cored and sanded, very badly too I might add. Huge core holes and the sand had dropped into them. Any putt over 6 inches was a gamble.

When I was done I had a go at the pro shop staff for not letting me know about it a) when I rang and booked and b) when I paid my $90 green fees.

I don't mind paying that sort of cash when the course is as it should be but if I'd have known it had been cored I wouldn't have bothered at all.

Sadly, I think it was the only place we were gonna get the game done with some reasonable level of enjoyment after all this damn rain...

Cairns is a quagmire at present and will take weeks to dry out properly

Yep, so I had heard but, Dave had to get to a family gathering straight after so, we weren't able to travel too far afield;

I might contact you later in the week about Mareeba for next Saturday if there is a chance of getting on; keen to get another hit in before I go back to sea and I'm not convinced Cairns will be much more playable by Saturday.

Any chance??

Can you PM me a mobile number so I can contact you later in the week?

Cheers

Get stuffed Mike. :razz:

As Outcast mentioned the first few holes I managed to grab a bit of a lead not necessarily through great play on my part. The back nine was a whole different story - Outcast played some great golf only to have birdie putts go close but not drop (the greens are slooooooow at the moment). I hardly hit a green in reg all day but I was able to get up and down nearly every time which managed to get me across the line.

Thanks again for the match Outcast. While neither of us played stunning golf it was at least great to play in fine weather. :)
