That's all.

Definitely some Reddy Bay rounds missing in there Chops, but looks the goods so far.

AndyP

I've been working back through the threads entering the scores. So far I've done December, January and February, however I have only done it for threads where the scores were listed in the header post or possibly on the last page. I'm not searching through threads looking for scores, as this is already a time consuming exercise.

Yesterday, when I was doing January scores, I was bumping the threads with either a post to say I had updated the POTY or to ask for scores. No responses either way, so I didn't bother for December as I'm sure the thread bumping is annoying.

Have a look at the round list (http://ozgolfpoty.net/round/list), and if you think a round is missing, get the thread updated with scores and send a link to Courty or myself (or Choppa).

PeteyD

Good work P and Chops

AndyP
17th February 2011, 10:17 AM
I've done right back to the Champs now, but there are lots of rounds missing scores, including a couple of big ones. If there are scores listed in matchplay threads, they would be missed too.

Maybe Courty could look through the NQ threads, and someone else for the other areas.

I always like to look at the leaderboard and see who the chopper with the least amount of winnings for a given amount of rounds is. This time around my cutoff was more than 5 rounds.

If I'm working back through threads, there was no point ignoring the NQ threads as I went. You were one of the main offenders of not putting scores in the header post. Haysey however, sets a great example with his threads.

Same deal as last year, guys.

Scores need to be in the header post and then the link to the thread PM'd to Courty, myself or Choppa. Otherwise it didn't happen. I note that the rounds from last year haven't been fixed either.

Is it worthwhile having a WA rep for POTY data entry?

Daves

I like the idea of an award for POTY, but I am not sure the current formula is the right one. Is there previous discussion on what the award is trying to recognise? The current formula tends to favour someone like myself that play lots of Ozgolf rounds. Given most of the membership have other commitments during the week, that realistically takes most out of the running unless they can win all the majors!

Jarro
12th May 2011, 11:22 AM
If we're to keep it then it certainly needs to be tweaked.

AndyP
12th May 2011, 11:27 AM
It is best of 20 now, not that Daves won it last year anyway.

The winner is usually someone that wins a major anyway.

The problem isn't entering data (Chops doesn't do it, Courty and I do), it's whether it is worth doing.

Jarro
12th May 2011, 11:30 AM
Best of 20 sounds a bit extreme !!

henno
12th May 2011, 11:36 AM
So you have to play an ozgolf day almost every second weekend?

I say best of ten, with extra weighting to the majors, especially the champs.

AndyP
12th May 2011, 12:00 PM
I'll round to almost every 3rd week, since 2.6 rounds to 3.

They are already weighted because of the number of people that are in them. 4th last in a major is the same as winning an OZgolf day with 4 people.

Marto65
12th May 2011, 12:40 PM

Twelve is plenty, in my newbie opinion.

Grunt
12th May 2011, 02:01 PM
How about an OzGolfer of the year with reference to contribution to OzGolf on a whole? Could be for playing but at the other end of the scale it could be for promotion of the group.

All we need to do is set up a way someone would nominate an ozgolfer and how we would finalise it down to a group of say 6 Ozgolfers that would then be put to their peers as a poll that would give us the OzGolfer of the Year.

If we did that, I feel no greater honour and respect to Leon (jaster) Treadwell that we would then award the Leon Treadwell Trophy to the Ozgolfer of the Year. I know we use that honour for the champs but I feel this would be more fitting.

OK let the voices be heard.

blah blah blah...

Stop getting off-track, Grunt. We tried that method with the Most Improved and look where it got us!
This discussion is about the Player Of The Year relevant to OZgolf associated events.

Daves mirrored my feelings on the matter: We should keep the POTY in some form, but it may need to be tweaked as currently it only has much interest/ relevance in SEQ.

yes. look up the first one, although the guy that started it off was clueless.

Keep it going.

In the years I was doing it the scoring system didn't effect the out come.

Matchplay had the biggest impact.

I think at least 10 plus people could win potty depending on champs results

Before chop took overI was looking at a tweak for classics and larger events to help players out of seq

PeteyD
16th May 2011, 09:03 AM
Why not keep it going. Most improved died a weird death, surely we can save this one. I like this award as it is about participation, which is kinda what these forums are about.

So how do we keep it fairer for those of us that don't play a lot of OzGolf days anymore ?

PeteyD

Well it is about participation, so it is the reward for that. The bigger days are heavily weighted, and I think you'll find that winners usually have one or two of those days scoring well, rather than a heap of little days.

I agree it is about participation Petey, that is why I would like to see it kept. It would be good to recognise those that organise days as well, particularly the majors e.g. G69 and the masters, Shaz etc for the Nudgee Plate, NK for Wynnum Cup etc etc.

So how do we keep it fairer for those of us that don't play a lot of OzGolf days anymore ?

I said from year one when we kicked this off, that there was two rules.
1. Whoever organising it, sets the rules himself.
2. Whoever wants to change the rules, can organise it himself.
(or it may have been can pay for the trophies himself)

I see no reason why the method cannot radically change, and that Ozgolf participation is at such high levels now, does it really need to be encouraged ? IN any case there is really no reason to discuss the how. What is important is the who.

Ozgolf has never worked well doing anything by discussion.

bwahahahaa. Pretty unlikely I'll contend. I've only played 7 rounds and most likely wont get another one in before the champs. I'd need to win the champs and the pre-champs round.

no doubt. I thought henno was the best looking ozgolfer anyway. (no homo)

I'm sure there has been some things discussed in the previous pages, but some people think that there is too many rounds counted for the 'best of'. Was it 15?

To be honest, there has been a lot less care factor for this in 2011. I thought that if I got everything up to date and gave constant updates, it might generate some more interest, but it hasn't seemed to.

Choppa

I think it's the top 20 rounds.

Yep didn't look like there was any interest, so I didn't take much interest in it myself. Not sure if it's just because it's a crap award, or if the calculation is not accepted. Anyway, less work for me.

Not that I care about POY but it seems bad enough that people are winning by walkover. They should be doubly rewarded for it.

If you won every round by walkover, would you consider yourself the champ?

You played well at some of the major events, got plenty of OZgolf games in and more importantly (to me) spread yourself around playing at many different courses, including interstate.

I knew all the ho'ing would pay off soon enough! Funnily enough and more a coincidence, I would say, I also got some lessons recently - maybe people are right and it's all about the lessons.

Anyway I am on a 6 week break and won't play again till the Duncan Bennett double header. I will be chomping at the bits to swing a club. It could be an interesting two rounds.
