View Full Version : Ping i10 irons vs i15 irons

I was poking around a pro shop the other day & had a look at the i10 & i15 irons.

I noticed something weird. The i15 irons look a lot wider at the bottom than the i10s - more like game improvement than player's club. If I was looking for a set of Ping irons (I'm not), I would definitely look at the i10s before the i15s.

Does anyone have a clue why Ping chose to seemingly make the i15 iron more like one of its g-line?

Because everyone complained that the i10's were
a) too hard to hit &
b) that the s line at the time (s57?) was easier hit & therefore
c) was not a good fit between the s & g i.e. not enough product differentiation.

One look at the i15's will tell you that they fit nicely between the s and the g line, a nice mix of both. i10's never sold that well but i15's have sold well.

I like the progressive heal-toe length and other stuff (progressive offset, blah blah) that the i15s have. Forgiveness in the long irons but better looking and feeling short irons.

You want super retro, how bout a set of original Ping Eyes, or better still, tho slightly later, the ones that had some serious clubhouse brag factor, a set of BeCu Ping eye2's..

speaking of the i3, I Wish I'd never sold my WRX i3 irons..

Just for a bit of fun I picked up an i10 8 iron the other day and hit half a dozen shots, they flew really pretty, so much so I'm now seriously considering a set of em.

Had a look at the i15 too, and for some reason all I could think of was the Ping Rapture rebadged..

Apparently the World No. 1 is still using the i10 irons. Lee Westwood WITB (http://leewestwood.com/in-the-bag.html)

I wish I had kept my i10s. They remind me of the i3s. I have the s58s which are close in profile.

Not too keen on the wider soled clubs.

Now that he us #1, aren't his clubs forged by Miura, Maruman and then like and the rebadged to look like Pings.

My I'10's are going to the substitutes bench as soon a suitable replacement is found, just can't find any consistency with them
