It's officially on like Donkey Kong.

The People's Champion.

The Defending Champion.

Loved by the ladies.

Admired by the men.

8-)Johnny Canuck 8-) brings his royal sexiness to his home away from home, The Links Kennedy Bay to take on,

The King of CAPITALISATION,

The Master of the run-on sentence,

The escapee of Middle Earth,

The Frodo Baggins stunt double,

:smt060NUFFIEthegolfman:smt060.

The Nuffster has the advantage of 1 stroke. Will this be enough?

Only time will tell.

Due to that fact that we are at the back of the comp, yours truly, the natural charmer, will provide live updates (unless I'm losing).

Winner gets:

The Doctor of the hook,

The man who's colour rhymes with Borange,

The man who when he worked in Subway always got hit with "Make me a sanga, ranga!",

:smt004Megawatty :smt095in the finals.

Who is ready to face the Coq? (besides Yoss)

Tune in tomorrow to find out.

Excellent work JC.

I am trying to work things out to make this LIVE and hopefully catch the Canuck in fine form. He seems to be at the moment..... Comedy. Not golf.

Is Nuffies brother coming for moral support...for JC?

It's funny that Nuffie and the guy that reminds us of Nuffie both love you dearly!

though i would like to put my hand up for dibs on making the final whether it be Nuff or JC.

Nuffie
5th November 2010, 11:18 PM
Yep, its the eve of the BIG match and down to the nitty gritty now....

Can the" hampie slayer" deliver with his 1-shot advantage...(NF 7 hcp v.s JC 6 hcp)? Or has he finally bitten off a bit too much to chew with this opponent - on a lengthy/windy Kennedy Bay track?

Well there's only one way to find out... by putting both our games to the ultimate test of the toughest.

Win, lose or draw, Nuffie never backs down from a challenge :) even if his latest form is a little patchy....

It will be interesting to see how the driver/3 wood combos go (With brand new YSQ shafts fitted on Thursday) as they haven't been tested on a course yet.

They felt reasonable at the Marangaroo range last night, even though I was hitting into a roaring southerly wind.

It will be a mystery how my game goes tomorrow, seeing I haven't played to my handicap in at least two months.

JC on the other hand is back to his best, and showing also his true humorous colours. Hopefully my game comes good under pressure.

May the best man win :)

Nuffie

Credit to JC playing so well on his former home track.

His approach into 18 was the best wind cheating iron shot I've seen in my life, from 150 out and into a 3 -4 club wind.

However myself being "blown" away sounds about right, I know now how Dorothy felt in the Wizard of Oz when that twister hit Kansas:

Except in my case "it definitely wasn't hartfield (not Kansas) anymore todo :)"

Exactly what I was thinking. What JC shoot on the last 5?

FYI Mike. The last 5 at KB are traditionally straight into the wind. And it's always a decent wind there.

When you coming over? We can compare Dragons jumpers throughout the years. I have two classics with signatures. Plus the legends framed one.

Yeah, was even after 9, then 7 over after 16 and finished 16 over after 18.

I still look at my playing card whilst sitting here at home, it will take me weeks to comprehend what went wrong.

Into the wind, JC is unbeatable. I have not played anyone who comes down on the ball as hard and delofts as much as 2 clubs.

Haven't played with Hocko yet, but JC can hit these low flat missiles with a 7 iron similar to the sizzle of the ball out of Lincecums' hand.

Sorry for the baseball metaphor as I am watching the Heat play the USA Allstars at the moment.

17th - Par 4 - JC 5, Nuffie 10

Its ok nuffie I did similar against mega!

Johnny Canuck
6th November 2010, 10:38 PM
15: Nuffie hit a little fade right and left himself a lot in. His approach landed way up the hill and he asked if he should hit a provisional. It was only natural that his ball would emerge from the thick kack, bounce down the hill and stop 20m short of the green in the centre of the fairway.

I hit a big drive, an 8 iron to the front edge and got my par.

Nuffie 3rd went a little long and he missed the comebacker.

Johnny Canuck
6th November 2010, 10:40 PM
Wee Tap: I was short with a 7 iron from 125m to a front left pin. Nuffster missed pin high, way right.

Nuffster chipped a big long to about 17 feet. I narrowly missed draining my putt up the hill and left myself about 12-15 feet.

Nuff missed and got the gimmie 4.

I hit my most clutch shot of the match to keep it going.

Johnny Canuck
6th November 2010, 10:43 PM
17 off the Tigers- JC big drive. Nuffie fade into the trees right, provisional trees left.

Nuffie took a drop, a punch, a second punch, a left handed shot and then a full swing to be in the fairway for 6.

I thought the safest play was a 2 hybrid, screw trying to lay up in those winds. Left myself 50m and stuck it to 5-6 feet. Nuffster conceded, I tried the putt and missed.

Johnny Canuck
6th November 2010, 10:45 PM
18 - Playing frickin' long.

JC decent drive in the right rough over the bunker. Actually hit my driver really well and it went all of 210.

Nuffie drive left, punch forward about 50-60m.

JC 160m 5iron that actually went slightly lower than planned, just off the back right to a back pin.

Nuffster, 3 extra clubs into the wind and the wind took his ball high and left into the kack for the conceded hole.

Johnny Canuck
6th November 2010, 10:49 PM
19:

JC, 4 iron down the middle

Nuffie, driver down the right, narrowly avoided the bunker (how he got super lucky on the same bunker twice in the same day, I'll never know).

JC hit PW to 6 feet

Nuffie missed short right, forcing hit to attack his chip, which went long.

Nuffie missed the putt.

JC, 2 putts for the win from 6 feet. Missed a conservative birdie try for the gimmie victory.

Hard to believe I pulled it out. I had resigned to the fact that I was defeated and only wanted to avoid getting belted.

Yossarian

No problems with the 15th club.

Looking back at today's match, Nuff played some great golf. I was ready to bury him in a bunker after his third consecutive up and down at the start of the match. He played so well, I came off the front nine feeling and thinking that I shot about 45. When he told me I shot 40, it kind of snapped me to reality that I wasn't playing bad. I had two that should have dropped and two more that got affected by core holes.

I thought I was going to run out of holes so my main goal became not to get totally flogged.

On the 15th, I actually thought to myself that if I won that hole, I'd have a good shot as 16-18 in high winds can be lethal.

When that putt dropped on 16, I think I actually heard one of Nuffster's vertebrae snap.

In the end, it was a blast and a perfect day for golf.

The greens were decent, but it is surprising how long it has taken some of them to come back after the coring.

Johnny Canuck
7th November 2010, 01:28 AM
how long does it take to play 17?

Either that or the Canuck just went down.

We were deep kack right. Nuffie had nowhere to drop.

Nuffie
7th November 2010, 01:32 PM
Awesome choke, Nuffie.

It's a new day and have been doing some more thinking and re-evaluating....

Would not call what happened a choke Andy, it may appear this way on paper when you look at the scores, that's for sure.

It was the weather change. Even with it happening on the last 6 holes it sealed may fate, despite being 5-up at one point.

I had no idea what to do, but just stick to my usual guns (take more club and swing the same way - my only hope).

The mindset never changed at any stage (before the completion of the 18 holes anyway). I always believed I could win, despite two missed up and downs on the 15th and 16th that would have closed it out. Even on 17 and 18, 3 shots to the middle of the green was my aim and I trusted my game. It all went wrong in the wind...

But on the 19th, my mindset changed for the first time in the day....and I knew he had me. It was why I had to put him away well before this, coz all his previous MP experience would come to the fore on any extra holes.

I maintained the same swing thought for every shot, and never thought at all about it being a matchplay semi-final. It's why I shot even par the front nine and felt absolutely no pressure doing it at all. Technique brought me unstuck and there was no plan-B and the reason why I capitulated: My present swing can't hit the ball low and straight enough in gusty conditions.

If my hcp goes out 3 shots in the next 6 months, I'm not fussed. After having a free lesson at Kalgoorlie a few weeks ago, I know a few ways to hit the ball flatter and with heaps more penetration, to not only fight the wind but increase distance for every club. Trouble is this destroys all accuracy and constitutes some big swing changes.

It's just gonna take months and months of work to get it.... but will be for the better.

Just noticed, 17th is a par 5 nuffster.

Par 6 into that wind...

I played there Sunday and just pured it for 12 holes. I think I hit one bad shot (2nd out of some kack left on 7) that cost me a drop and a double. I was +4 after 12.

13 saw me on the green for 3 and four putt for double! I had a 30ft first putt into the strong wind and had seen my two partners come up way short with their putts. I blasted mine 10 feet past. Was then putting downwind, when the ball hit a core hole bounced right and went 3 ft past. The 3ft putt also deviated quite badly off a core hole. (I'm agreeing with JC after his round Sat in that some of the greens have not come back very well from the coring it seems. It has been 7-8 weeks since they were cored too...)

I hit a solid 4 iron to the middle of the 14th and two putted for a good par to be +6 after 14.

Then I made Nuffie look like a solid percentage player on MY last 4 holes...TRAINWRECK! Wind was VERY strong at this stage and into for the last 5 holes.

I lost a ball on 15 with my 2nd from the right rough, into the wind. I shoulda just pitched it back into the fairway. (Took 7). Lost my tee shot long left on 16 and put my provisional into the kack pin high left as well and had to take a drop too (took 8). Hit two balls left off 17 tee, first was lost, barely found the 2nd and bunted it out. Hit 2HY well right from the fairway and had to take an unplayable from down the right rough (again, lucky to find it)...punched it on from 90m and 2 putted (took 9). Went left again on 18 and by now was pissed...tried to go at the green with 4 iron from rough over the trees behind the left bunker. Struck it pure but didn't clear the shrubs above the traps...found ball...took another unplayable, bunted it out into the fairway and punched a 7 iron from 110m that bounced off the right edge and down the swale. A reasonable chip to 10ft or so and a lipped out putt meant I finished with 8.

7,8,9,8 FINISH...FFS!!! I was just destroyed and tryin' to figure out what the hell had happened. All of a sudden my swing had gone and nearly everything was going LEFT...seriously left too.

They'd probably still be playing punch shots out of the rough.

Would've finished when one of us ran out of golf balls...

Think I saw the 'same' Dugite too...scared the SH*T out of me, 'cos I nearly stepped on it, and it actually looked like it was gonna go me...so I left. Quickly. Was on the right side of 15. Took about 10 minutes to get my heart rate down. VERY CLOSE ENCOUNTER!!!

Luckily, snakes don't usually worry me too much. But when it started to crane its' head & neck upwards I was outta there...

Why are you editing so many posts today fit? Especially after one of them was only a line and then came back as 5 or 6 paragraphs?

Now after this epic battle, this now has me wondering:

Magenta Shores or Kennedy Bay...mmm...

Which one would be toughest to play - on a gusty day, playing their home stretches of holes?

The Magenta holes are open but quite a big longer, the last there is a 560m par 5!

Kennedy's are not as long as this, however they have considerably narrower segments that sort of bottleneck, namely the layup area into the 18th, and the landing area for the drive from the 17th tee. The 15th is also a tightish approach and tee shot. The wee tap 16th can be a club selection nightmare, even playing from a seemingless 120m.

Magenta's 15th to 18th are quite open, but all very long requiring big clubs for approaches. Deep pot bunkers are all over the place and enormous greens there differ by 4 clubs from front to back. It is very difficult to avoid 3-putting, even if you hit two or 3 miracle shots to get on.

This adjudication would be a dead heat IMHO, if the last 4 holes are played into the wind.

Sounds good...I'll just use the compressor to put it on (or some double sided tape)

What time...wife now has plans to do something Saturday arvo (I am morally/legally obligated to be involved).

I should therefore be "available" post 4pm Sat. Or otherwise Sunday post 2pm.
